Brushless Losi 8ight-T
Hello. I just purchased a Losi 8ight-T race roller that I'm gonna convert to brushless power. I bought the brushless motor mount from RC Monster and was planning on buying another FD XLT-1 (have one for my LST2). I have 2 quick questions I was hoping you guys could help me with. First, what is the kv rating of the XLT-1? Second, what would be a good starting point in terms of pinion size to hit 45-50 mph on 4S lipo with the stock spur gear? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

i would say 15t bell. its stock with a 13 and it would hit about that with a p3 28. but let us all know how it works out for you. i may be making mine brushless here soon if i lose a other throtle servo. sick of that ****.

Thanks for the help. How high does the p3 rev up to? I'm thinking of sending the mount to get hard anodized so it might be a while, but the system is gonna consist of a FD XLT-1, Quark 125B, Futaba 3PM 2.4 GHz radio. Haven't decided on servos but I like the top-of-the-line JR's.

To make an accurate guess for the gearing, your going to have to find the circumference of the tyres, then divide the speed (50) by the circumference (in miles!) to get revs per second for the wheels, times by 60 to get the rpm. To get the center shaft/spur gear speed, times this rpm by the number of teeth on the diff gear, and then divide it by the number of teeth on the other bevel gear. You can then try out different clutch bells to get gearing.
Just thinking, and you would need to have the tyre circumference and speed using the same distance measurement, so convert 50 mph into m/s and put the wheel circumferece in metres.
A pro-line bowtie mtr (for example) is about 0.15m in diameter, so 0.15*(22/7(pi)) = 0.47m circumference. 50mph is 22m/s, so 22/0.47=47 revs per second or 2820 rpm (at the wheel). The 8T uses 43 and 10 tooth bevel gears, so the center shaft speed is (2820*43)/10 = 12129 rpm at 50mph. Now all you need is the kv of the motor!

Please post pics. I have a BL on road car just for fun, and I wanted to move the setup over to a 1/10 scale buggy, but I could be convinced to go with a 1/8

These are pricey setups but from what I've heard well worth the $ but the input I've heard is mainly on the LST conversion.
