Default Robitronics Mantis

Hi , was wondering if anyone here has put a Roto Start on the Axial engine in the mantis ? Seen one for sale with one on it and wanted to know which backplate to use on that engine . The more I look at this trug the more I want it . Plan to change the servos and use my radio and need to find a better way to start it . Is the Mantis set up so you can use a starter box ?

I have one on my mantis and you need to get the backing plate that faces the rear of the truggy and uses the dogbone shaft. Awesome truggy and is very durable. I have had mine for over 5 months and take it to the track twice a week and the only thing I have broke is on shock shaft when I ran into some pvc. It is set up to use a starter box but the hole in the chassis is too small and has to be enlarge with a dremel so the starter box wheel will not hit the chassis and touch only the flywheel and you will be fine.

All roto start backplates face the rear and use a dogbone shaft .

Here is the roto start backplate for Axial .28. Make sure you order some extra one way bearings. Roto starts strip out bearings.

I just received my mantis that I bought used . Does anyone make any other cvds or turnbuckles for it that are not steel ? I bought this on ebay and was claimed to be in very good condition , but everything is rusty and the engine is fried and had water in it . Trying to see if it is worth fixing or sending it back and demanding a refund .

I AM USING THE DYNAMITE STARTER BOX.BY USING A STARTER BOX YOU HAVE ONE LESS CHANCE OF HAVING A AIR LEAK.I HAVE A 28RR ON MINE AND IT NOW SEEMS TO RUN LIKE IT SHOULD.AS FAR AS UNIVERSAL DRIVESHAFTS GO THEY ARE LESS LIKELY TO GIVE A PROBLEM,IN MY OPINION.

I have tried a Dynamite box and will not touch the flywheel . Is there a bigger flywheel for the trug or shorter engine mounts ? I`m not worried about the cvds giving me a problem , but hate the fact they are steel and rust .

Dawman, Id get a refund if at all possible. If its rusty and had water in the engine, chnces are is was cleaned off with a hose. If so then all your bearings may be toast too. As it sits it sounds like its a parts donor.
