Default Strange problem, please help!

So I'm relatively new in the nitro RC sport and recently purchased a used Jammin' CRT .5 mini truggy with the spectrum DX2.0 transmitter/receiver. Here's the scenario (will try to best explain it).

I first plugged everything in once I got it to try it out. I noticed that my throttle would go fine, but my brakes wouldn't budge. I messed around with the settings (after reading the manual of course) on the spektrum, butstill couldn't get it to work. After a while the servo stripped on the inside....and wouldn't work at ALL. This particular servo was a futaba. So i came to the forums here and ordered a metal geared Hitec servo to install on the truggy.

I installed the servo today and the same problem. Here's what's even more strange. If I REVERSE the servo for the throttle, it moves the servo both ways (as in: I hit throttle and the brakes move, I hit the brakes and the throttle moves). If I put the servo back to normal, ONLY the throttle works. The brakes just sit there (although at one point they worked for a few seconds).

So you'd think the receiver/transmitter might be bad right? At least that's what I thought. So I took the receiver completely out and replaced it with my cheap analog OFNA one that came with my Hyper ST Truggy. The SAME PROBLEM occured. No brakes unless I reverse the servos.

So I plugged everything back in to the spectrum gear one last time and my brand new hitec servo began to smoke....and now is completely dead.

Does ANYONE have any suggestions?

We changed the EPA setting from one extreme to the other and it didn't seem to affect it. Same thing on my cheap analog controller with the dial-like buttons....It wouldn't even trim the servo that one way.

Sounds like a faulty transmitter then. You need to take it to a highly experienced person to look at. I doubt this kind of problem can be solved over the internet. Fingers crossed, maybe someone will hit on the problem. Better to get it solved in person though. Good luck.

try it with the arm removed and see if the servo even turn at all, maybe brakes are engaged already or stuck? Also check dual rates on brakes, maybe set very low, epa won't fix that. If all that fails flip the servo and see if that fits/works. Good luck, sounds like a strange problem with a simple solution.

ROFL, not at you but the hitec servo, I have always warned people about them.

But now to the problem in handI bet that you dont have a spring on the throttle linkage. Am I right? I guess that you have 2 collets either side of the slider on the servo arm?

If so then it's no wonder the brakes dont work.

But to confirm all of this could you please do some pics of the linkage setup. They really would help.

Nope, i have a spring on the linkage.

I actually did take the linkages completely off the servo, and the same thing occured....at times ZERO movement when I engaged the brakes. The wierdest part is that when I'd reverse the servo and hit the throttle trigger, the brakes WOULD work.

I've spent countless hours thinking about this logically, and it makes zero sense. I've started to contact Hitec to see if I can get a replacement servo, but this same issue seemed to happen with the futaba I had previously. I honestly don't think it's the servo. I'm wondering if it's in my spektrum RX/TX and maybe by the time I plugged it into my old Analog system it was already semi-broke. I have a few old servos I'm going to test with before I do anything.

Very very frustrating. That's for sure

You may not want to do this but accidentally place the car and the TX in a bag, climb to the top of the stairs where you live, inadvertantly trip on a rollerskate that some 7 yo has left there and drop the lot down the steps, then claim it on the home insurance.
