Some good low buck truggies to get started with are the Redcat Monsoon and the thunder tiger st-1. Both are about the same price and very durable and fast. There is a thunder tiger thread and monsoon thread here and also a monsoon thread in the redcat forums.

To be honest Redcat vehicles are a real pain to get parts for and usually need them. Id get the ST-1 RTR. It is one kick ass truggy. Pretty much indestructible, amazing handling, and awesome performance electronic and motor wise stock.

I have the St1 and a couple redcats. You can get parts for the redcats and its not a pain. Either way you would have to order parts online for both. The St1 is built like a tank so I dont think you will need very many parts and its pretty much race ready out of the box. Great truggy. I have a redcat Avalanche that I would put up against ANY of the name brands. It is also built very well and it gives my truggy a run f for my money. You cant go wrong with either but I have to give my vote for the TTR ST1.

Get a truggy that your local hobby shop carries parts for. The Redcats aren't hard to get parts for but you will be buying parts more frequently. I bought 2 of them for my kids and it wasn't worth it.

i wouldnt do it because redcat isnt a very good brand and thunder tiger is a great brand. thunder tiger makes team associated which is one of the most popular brands out there and they have over 20 titles on their belt

i dont plan on racing or bashing this truck. all i want my first truck for is to play with a couple of months and learn about the hobby... you know tuning, adjustments that kind of stuff...... then when i get serious about nitro trucks then i will look into a different brand...

Then go for the ST 1.

Extremely reliable, dosent break.

Look on the ST 1 forums.

Its the best value for money, and pretty much a good beginners car.

then what are you gonna do with the truck. fly it? you will either use it for racing (on a track against other people) or bashing (playing around with it, going of jumps, driving it on the street, stuff like that) sounds like you are going to bash so go for the st-1
i have one and love it. only $289 at amainhobbies.com. rated best rc deal on the market right now by rc action magazine. it is fast, very durable, and easy to tune which is good for beginners.
this truck is beginner friendly but can also be a competitive racer

well the fact being is the hobby shop where i live is a distributer for Redcat Racing..... and any questions i have or help i need or parts i have to buy are just minutes down the road... i am not putting money into this truck for performance and i dont need a practically race ready truck because in a couple of months when i get the new one then my son will get this one..... performance is not the issue

There was a tsunami at the track I went to this weekend and it did pretty well. Was a little bouncy but that can be fixed with some shock fluid but I was impressed for a 1/10th scale. Like everyone says though, you cannot beat a 1/8th scale. But since you do not want to spend that much I think the tsunami will do just fine, especially since you can get parts easily like me. My LHS carries redcat and get parts whenever I need them just as fast as any other manufacturer and alway has parts in stock.

One thing i've learned in this hobby is trust what the majority have to say, don't try to buy something cause its diffrent... its ussually diffrent cause its garbage.. i have no personal experience with Redcat.. I think their truggy looks ok.. but i've seen the Thundertiger and they are a much more established company... and engine warranties are a joke.. don't buy based on that

Just buy what you like,

Its yur choice in the end.

And @ slayer.

You really might wanna read what you post

" its usually differient because its garbage "

When they created truggies, they were differient from buggies

or do the look like the same thing to yu.?

I honestely hate people like that, who just base their opinions on what they hear.

Ive tried the red cat, let it be said for 5 mins only, its alright.

I drive a TT ST1 nearly every second day, i love that truck.

In the end robbiesmechanic, its you choice.

Just get the one you like more.

What i mean by diffrent is,

If their are 5 motors out and everyone runs motor 1 and 2.. and you say.. i don't want motor 1 or 2 cause i wanna be diffrent..
and i wonder why people buy motor 1 and 2 then you buy motor 4 and its garabage ... i would say people don't buy it cause its junk

Trust me i'm the last person to follow the mass, but in this hobby its smart to listen and not try to be the guy off on the left trying to make a Traxxas Jato something it isn't...

hopfully that clarifys

@ slayer

I get what yur saying.

But in the end all im saying is just get what you like

I liked the nitrage, i got it, i know its not near the best truggy out there

Its differient

Thats what I liked about it.

I know people whove bought and gone through absloute crap rc's, but they liked it, and thats what matters.

Dont get me wrong, I take in everyones opinions, but in the end, when your paying, what would you rather have, Something you like, or something 10 other people like.?
