Hyper ST RTR V. TT ST-1
So, I've read that they are both great truggies and both handle well, but noone has made a direct comparison. Is the Ofna worth $300 extra? Would it be worth it to just get the Hyper kit instead of either of the RTRs? If I went with the kit, it would be my first build. Are they easy to build? What servos is everyone using? I was thinking of the Futaba S9452 for steering since its specs are nice, and I use it on both my steering and throttle on my GT2 and have great luck with em.

It's made by Hobao not Ofna.
Hobao ST RTR are $399 at Rcmart, the ST1 RTR has been $300 for ages at Amain so it's a $100 difference.
They are both good value RTR's. The Hyper used to come with a crappy engine but thyey have updated it to a more reliable turbo head with a stronger crank.
Theres an army of resident TT Fanbois here that would tell you the ST1 is the best truggy ever, can't argue it's good value but neither truggy is better than the other around a race track, the ST is a bit more modern though and IMO has a nicer chassis layout thats easier to work on, also has better servos.
I'd take the ST but then I'm a bit Hobao byest/biest.. however you spell it...

The battery box is a rather bad idea on the Hyper ST, never understood why Hobao bring out a great box with the Hyper 8 then revert back to the tacky Hyper 7 holder for the ST, least the Hyper 8 bix fits it.

lmao what special features do other truggy's have that the st-1 doesn't have?? Pretty well every possible area of the st-1 can be tuned. My vote is ST-1 because I own one. Good servo's, motor, chassis, suspension vehicle in general, some just don't like the radio.

So, would it be worth teh extra $100 to buy the Hyper? I want something I can take out of the box, tune, and throw on the track without putting in gobs of $$

The st1 and Hyper is track ready out of the box. Like all other truggies you still need to make adjustments. For the price the st1 is awsome.

Tires LPR's

rims for LPR wheels and preferably 1/2 offset works best

you should also get a wing mount the st-1 doesn't come with a wing just a small wing on the body

and a wing

Because lol.
The ST 1 is a fine truck in everyway, I know I bought one. But theres still this thing about the Hyper, maybe its me, I dunno.
I just prefer the Hyper in every way
Plus the servos you get with the Hyper are pretty crazy, and the engines alright now.
And you get that bling air filter.
Gimme 2 mins, Ill post some pics.

RE: Hyper ST RTR V. TT ST-1
I own a Hyper ST and have 2 Thunder Tigers at my disposal, I have played with them quite extesively on and off the track. The Hyper turns better if you like a truck that handles like its on rails but if you like a truck that slides around the turns then the ST1 is a bit better at that. The Hyper engine RTR sucks!! I dont know about this new engine others are talking about, but the Mac-Star mine came with was a paper weight at best. I have never had a problem with my flat pack in the Hyper and if you dont have a flat pack for the ST1 its a tight squeeze to get everything to fit. All in all they are both great trucks if I had to do it all over again knowing what I know now I wouldve went Hyper Kit and thrown in a monster engine. I like that ST1 just not enough to give up my Hyper.
