Default Engine woes at the track

Today I took my fine running 8T with my new LRP .28 and Muggy with it's Axial .32 to the track for some fun - both worked fine last week and today they hardly ran at all!!! [][][][] My 8T took ages to crank up and so did the Muggy and I went through the following: [&:]

[ul][*] Primed engines[*] Checked Fuel Lines[*] Changes Glow Plugs[*] Changed Glow Starter[*] Checked Throttle & Idle settings[*] Cleaned Air Filters[*] Cleaned out Carb with fuel[*] Checked for pressure leaks on exhaust

Now am I missing something as both car's have the same problem which is bizzare - normal start up is within 3 seconds of starter kicking on and I completely unimpressed with how 2 great running cars can do this????? [][]

Thanks

might have to do with barometric pressure and humidity levels

both doing the exact same would lead me to beleive that something in your prep is to blame...if they both ran fine last week....then what did u change in between last week and this week. ? something must be a miss.....what was the weather last week for fun compared to this week ?

Did you check the contacts on your glow ignitor? I often find them very dirt, and when I test a glow plug in my hand I am hitting it in a different way where it makes enough contact to glow, but when clicked on, it's siitting right in the middle where all the oil residue is built up. I just bring a cloth and wipe the bottom of my glow ignitor and even wipe the tip of the glow plug, not the side in the engine, but where the glow ignitor makes contact with.

The track temp was a few degrees higher than last week but only by 2 or 3, I tried the cleaning the glow plugs and even installed new ones which made no difference.

When I arrived the 8T fired as it always does (instantly), it cut off half way into it's first tank and that where the problem started with that one. The Muggy just didn't want to fire period! I must be missing something??????

That indicates you were runnign to lean, the engine overheated to the point where the fuel boils rapidly. So then you need to wait for the engine to cool down. I mean clean the glow ignitor more then the glow plug.

The fuel does sound like a possible problem as there was fuel left in the tanks as they were not completely empty. I have just bought a new gallon and will try that today and clean the glow starters.

What fuel do you run? My friend had a tank of 20% trinity in his hyper 7 for atleast 8 months, it fired up on the first try, engine was a big gummy nothing wd40 down the carb couldn't fix and a few seconds of high reving

That is your problem. Nitro fuel absorbs moisture over time. Tanks should be drained or emptied after each use. People expect nitros to run like real cars and they do not. Do not get so easily frustrated but instead ask your tuning buddies for prep and afterrun advice as it seems you are not following the basic how-tos.

I always run Odonnells 20% - I normally go through a gallon within a few weeks as I have 3 cars running on it.

I will always drain the fuel from now on and see what happens.

Just come back after trying to fix the start problem - I got both car's started but only by using a high speed drill which took 3-4 seconds before starting was engaged.

I cleaned the glow starter, changed the plug again, drained the tank earlier today and put fresh fuel from a new gallon in. I am hoping this is all down to tune as I feel I need to re-set the LRP .28 back to factory and start all over again. However the starting problem is still really bugging me. BTW this was all on my 8T.

I really miss when my car's started in a second or 2 with the normal roto start systems []

Check the engine head screws. Tighten them in a star format X .

what do you do when you shut your cars off. this i found helped the life of the engine. it also helped when i went to fire them back up.

first shut the car off then put the piston at the bottom of its stroke. thats to make sure that when the sleeve cools down it doesnt shrink the piston over time.

next suck all the remaining fuel out of you tank.

then start the motor and let it idle out of fuel.

then take the plug out and but after run in the motor and turn it over with the plug out and then put the plug back in.

then you should be all ready to go for next time you run them i hope this helped.

Right I have just come back after a gruelling hour with my 8T, the LRP .28 only wants to start with a high powered electric drill and not the roto start as it doesn't have the grunt required. This is still baffling me as I have done everything reccomended so far and put the tune back to factory settings and moved from there to help it start, still nothing.

There is plenty of fuel going into it, another new glow plug, changed the air filter, checked all settings and adjusted to help it fire and still nothing. Would it be worth using an air compressor to fire through the carb and clean out the engine incase there is some gunk in the block? I can't see how there would be gunk considering the engine is 2 weeks old.

Thanks

It does stay running when it's started, only cuts off when it's cold and then a re-start is needed.

these issues are all tuning related, nothing more........ learn to tune ...do not use such massive turns on the needles...
