I'm looking at making my own nitro and need help.
Do you have to be a chemist to do this?
How much or little can you mix at once?
Are the ingredients common?
What can I store this in safely?

Pure nitromethane is a very volatile creature.
Nitromethane was created to be used as rocket fuel.
It possible to mix your own, but with so many good fuel choices, why bother?
With the cost of the raw chemicals, you would have to buy enough to make a huge batch to realize any savings.
Even then, the quality control would be no where near what you can buy off the shelf.
I looked into this myself a couple years ago, it just wasn't worth it.
When people find out you have raw nitromethane in your garage, they get a little freaked out.

You can take a look in the [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/forumid_87/tt.htm]Everything Diesel Forum[/link]. There are a few members that make their own diesel, and may have some insight into a process.

I'd say your right about not being worth it. Even if I sold it at my track I'd have to change peoples minds and try to get them to run my fuel. How much fuel can you get shipped at one time?

Our club works a deal with the local hobby store but we need to get over so many cases to make them want to do it. They cut us a good discount since we are doing bulk. The only thing is, we need to be there to pick it up when it comes in.

I once belonged to a Control Line flying club and we looked into making vs. buying fuel. We shipped in FOX fuel each season - two 55-gallon drums. It was far cheaper than making it, mostly because of the price of the nitromethane, which we would have had to buy in a 55-gallon drum by itself.

I have mixed my own fuel before for my airplane engines. Getting the components can be a hassle. I bough the methanol from a local oil distributor the nitro from a drag racer and the oil from a motorcycle shop. It cost me about $13 a gallon for 15%. The most expensive part was the oil at $45 a gallon.

why do you say that??
cuz demand has exceeded the supply....and in the BIG scheme of things...our little cars arent exactly important...when nitro can be used in the farming and Agricultural sector's which actually give u something in return......Pathous...thats interesting to know...but is there any proof of it ?

4 gallons.
4 gallons.
You can buy more than 4 gallons at a time, 4 gallons is what comes in a case of fuel. As far as I know you could buy a pallet of fuel at a time its just gonna be expensive to pay for shipping that way

usely for hobby shops if you buy 10 cases they will get lik 5-10 dollars off a case but you have to buy so many cases and then you have to pay for hazard shiping
