I would like to spend under 180.00 dollars. I would like to know what engine is recommended. I like the GO21, LRP z28, both axial's and the mach 427. I have a losi 8-t truggy race roller, that I am currently building. I would also like some opinions on pullstart and bump start, etc. I plan on doing mostly practice runs at the local track until I get good enough to race. I will probably be having more fun at the track and around the yard than serious racing. So with that being said would a pullstart motor be okay or should I get an engine without a pull?? Only thing is I will have to buy a starter box which is more money. I saw a guy online start a LRP z28 with a glow stick and a cordless drill??? Do i need a starter box or can I manually start the engine with a drill on the side??? In other words,non-pull starts do they need a starter box??? I know about the easy and spin starts but are they good for future racing???? Thanks

if you have a losi race roller you will have to buy a new engine mount to run a pullstart engine. the pullstart assembly on the lrp is huge and you will have to shim it wayyy up. best thing is to get a starter box, you will never look back.

Get a starter box, a Mach 427, and backplate part# SWK8057. The box and batts will cost some dough, but if you've got any ideas of racing, you'll need one eventually anyway - %100. And there's the added bonus of no slipping one-way bearings that you get with pullstarts and rotostarts..(though I have to admit I haven't had nearly the issues of OWB slippage with the Losi spin-start system as I have with the HPI rotostart system...)

The XTM 457 is a really good motor for the money (I have one..I paid $160 for it..). A buddy of mine won the Roar Sportsman Nats with one..So it's not slow..The one I have has been converted to bump..It's help up pretty good.

do people even use pull start motors in racing??? Could I be successful with one?? Also if I were to buy a starter box which one??? And what would I need to get it to work??? Some seem to need motors batteries etc,,, si just lookin for info also ballpark money wise what would I be looking at??? If I decided to nix the starter box for now, I could get engine mounts and stick a pull start on it??

Not even a debate. Go LRP .28 pull start if you don't have enough for a starter box. If you do, go Jammin JPX (Picco) .28 w/ starter box and be set for life. (Almost literally. 15+ gallons are easy on this engine from what I've heard).

What do you think the XTM motor is..Same as the LRP 2..only downside to the LRP and XTM is fuel mileage..

its up to you the only thing about a pull start is that the one way set up is heavy i changed a axial over to bump start workes good but if you cant buy the box now buy somthing you can change over later

My vote goes to the go 5 port, very cheap and definately reliable.....not to mention they scream and keep up with all the high dollar engines. Rebuilding a Go engine is really light on the wallet too which is something to think about. Also they are easy too tune especially with a P3 or P4 plug. Just an awesome motor...real 'bang for your buck' as they say.
As for starter box go the Ofna truggy box (blue one).

I'm not so sure about the go 21 but i saw 2 go 25s completely blow apart at the last 2 club races & they both had less than 1 gallon. I am new to r/c but have been around motocross for years & have found the stuff that is cheaper usually isn't as good . Not bashing go tech but just going by what i have seen .
