Default Truggies to stay away from

I recently purchased a 1/8 4WD Mad Warrior truggy by EXCEED-RC and have allready had to send the motor back
to them (way out to Cali.). So now it looks like I won't be runnin till the end of the month, what a kick in the butt
for a RTR buggy.

what happened to the engine? we all have problems, even with top of the line, what matters now is how they treat you in taking care of the warrenty.
how many tanks did you run before the problem?what about break in?
keep us posted.

Mind you I am completely new to this. but thankful that I am mechanicaly inclined. First off I had to install what they call
a "drill holder" to the back of the motor in place of the pull starter, this took about an hour because I had to modify the
drill holder so I could put the muffler back on. Then Tues. night the 7th I was able to run one tank through before it was time to shut down. Wed. morning went to the grage to continue break in, first half hr. was like pulling teeth to get the damn thing to fire. Then it happened, when I went try and restart again the drill holder just started to "free wheel" not turning the engine over at all. Backatthe work bench, pulled motor out to inspect, what I fond was that the starter shaft had slid
rearward and was not engaging on the crank shaft. The more I looked into the problem an idea popped into myhead, why not put some SS flat washers on the inside of the drill holder to keep the shaft from sliding back to far. This worked ok for about two moretanksof fuel, when the 3rd tank offuel ran out I filled the tank again and went to restart it, same
thing again, drill holder did the free-wheelin thing again. Again, back to the bench pulled the motor and this time the startershaft was completley gone it would not engage at all.Called support, got a RMA# and shipped it back to Cali.
Did not have any hassels about the return, it's just the time involved, I won't have this damn thing running again till the end of the month and that reall sucks for a RTR buggy.

I AGREE !!! it's realy tough when you have a brand new truggy that you get stare at.might not hurt so bad if you would of got more run time out of it before this happened [sm=angry_smile.gif] the upside,if ther is one,no hassle about the return & no problem with the engine.you could see it returned sooner than you think,I HOPE. keep us posted.

riderrick63,

Unfortunately, I think we have all been there. Nitro Engines are complicated two stroke beast that takes a lot of experience to understand. Speaking for many RC enthusiasts there is a trial and error stage that costs unnecessary money.

Fortunately there is an answer to all this madness and it’s called Electric Off-road. Not only is it more reliable but affordable in the long run, not to mention it has an unbelievable power band.

Best of luck with your Truggy happy bashing/racing!!

LMAO!!

Come on now, electric is very stable and the industry is constantly updating its products. I was initally the same way before I turned to the electric darkside. Yes, I agree its hard to replace the noise, smell, and feel of the horsepower spitting out of the pipe, but electric power is out of this world. It is so simple to plug and play. Those batteries are also insane, they average 15 min runtime, which seems like an eternity.

Either way, they are both great but electric power is GREEN and is the wave of the future.

Gotta love renewable energy!!!!

15 minutes is eternity? lol ok

PLEASE DON'T HIJACK THIS THREAD TO START A ELECTRIC VS NITRO THREAD. we all know u recently converted a hyper st to electric wutidoo horay for you but some people like nitro some like electric simple personal preference just leave it at that please

I'm not hatting on NITRO, I have NITRO RC's as well and they both have their + & -. I'm simply expressing some of the benefits electric RC brings to the sport. It will take some time till electric gains more support, but we should be happy that the industry is giving us the option to go NITRO or ELECTRIC or why not have both and get the best of both worlds. That's all...........

don't feel bad I live in cali, and have a new 8ight-T 2.0 RTR that I am having a devil of a time with getting the engine to tune right, already had it back for a warranty repair, and it just will not idle right, idles a bit high, and when I adjust it it just won't idle lower... I told them I think it has a and issue with the LSN, but they said it was the front bearing seal. was just running it earlier and noticed if I just apply pressure to the LSN it drops to a nice idle. Anyways, point is that even the "top shelf" vehicles have issues frm time to time so you aren't alone just cuz you went the cheap route.

Since when was anything about an RTR top shelf?? No rtr of any kind is top shelf because even if the chassis itself is built well, the motor and servos will be the failure part of the car. And electric is not the answer to an offbrand nitro rc failing... the answer is to buy a quality well known name brand such as Ofna, mugen, kyosho, xray, associated, losi, etc. Cost a bit more but you get what you pay for. NEVER buy from offbrand rc companies unless they have been race tested by pro racers and have alot more good reviews than bad ones.

Are you talking about the Losi rtr buggy? I have read and have heard several spectrum radio owners say the radio has short range or has ran their cars away, etc. (mayb the issue has been fixed??) So its definatly not top shelf. LRP is a nice engine so but nothing top shelf. The JR servo it comes with is slow. Like I said, theres no such thing a top shelf rtr because all of them have cut corners somewhere to make it affordable for people to buy so they have weak points weather its in the radio area, or engine.

uh dude, 1) we are talking turggies, 2) do your homework before you bash the Losi 3) yes it is a top shelf, and ready to race out of the box. 4) any vehicle costing more than 500.00 usually qualifies itself as top shelf...

Losi sort of changed RTRs meaning with this one to "ready to race"

sounds to me you are just biased... and have to have your way... I have an 8ight-T 2.0 RTR, and can say hands down of the many vehicles I have owned and operated, this has got to be one of the nicest, best driving rides of them all. PERIOD!

I used to own the madwarrior from exceed as well, and I never had any problems with my engine at all......... To be honest it was one of the easiest out of my 11 nitro rc's to break in, and I hardly ever had to retune it and it fired up almost instantly everytime.............

I'll admit its not the best rc out there , but for the price it to me was well worth it and then some............I bashed the crap out of it and the only thing that happened was I kept popping out the front a-arms if I ever hit something head-on, and the only reason why i got rid of it was because my cousin wanted to get into the 1/8 scale rc's after only owning 1/10th, but I honestly kind of regret selling it because it never gave me any major problems.......

The Losi RTR is the best of the best when it comes to RTR's....

however the included servo's are prone to failure, IMO not truly race worthy

it lacks all the fancy billet of the pro kit..instead all the aluminum is stamped

The Mach 454 is not a race engine, its good, but nowhere near a tru race engine....

however in the realm of RTR's it doesn't get any better then the Losi...... However since I am into racing and hard bashing I would still buy the Pro-kit, then buy quality servo's and a race .21...... IMO a person is going to end up buying new servo's, and quite a few of the billet upgrades when the RTR stuff breaks, as well the 454 is decent, but it wont be long till someone buys a quality 21 instead...........so for me the pro-kit actually is going to offer the better value in the long run........... but as I say if someone is stuck on a RTR it doesn't get better then the Losi 8T 2.0

all you said is that since it costs over 500 its automatically a top shelf truggy.., which is crazy.. and your also saying its ready to race with those slow servos?? no way.. i done my homework which is why i dont buy rtrs no more. Im not bias on anything and no im not degrading Losi at all.
