Hellfire SS

Im going to get a Hellfire SS when they come out. Now comes the decisions. Which engine, pipe, and radio with servos do you all recommend. I used to have a few traxxas rc's a few years ago but fell out of the loop when I sold them. What are some good options to complete the Hellfire SS.

I hear Spectrum is the way to go for the radio right?

The hellfire SS comes out in July I believe. Here is a link. Scroll down the page, you will see it. http://www.hpiracing.com/news/2006051001.html

the hellfire SS is beefed up compared to the RTR. It doesnt have an engine, pipe, radio and servos.

any idea on price?

BigBoyBlue 05-23-2006 02:11 PM

RE: Hellfire SS

im guessing because the RTR was 575-650 range, this will be 450-525 range. hopefully.

It may sound deranged, but I've been waiting for this thing for six months. At least that gave me enough time to get the radio gear to go with it. :)

ok, now like i asked before. What is a good radio, engine and pipe for this. Id also like to start buying my parts ahead of time.

For the engine the Hot Mods Novarossi 528 is a beast of an engine. Radio wise, IMHO Nomadio is the way to go.

Here's another picture to whet your appetite:)

for an engine, im thinking OS v-spec .21

RE: Hellfire SS

for servos i rec. hitec 5955 if you want that thing to turn, and like a 5998 or something for the throttle/brake. id say either the .21 v spec or if the track you run at is huge get the rossi .28 got one and it is sick.

Radio - IMO, DSM is the way to go. No more having to change out crystals. I've got an M8 with DSM and a Spektrum DX3. I like them both but like how easy it is to use the M8. I don't think you could go wrong with any of the high-end radios.

Engines - I've tried a bunch; OS VZB, Picco P7, LRP Z.28R, Wasp .28, Wasp Pro.... I honestly believe they are all about the same. The .21s are very powerful AND good on gas. I currently have a the Picco P7 installed in one of my ST-Rs and the Wasp Pro in the other. Both perform equally well. I also had an LRP in my LSP-R which was just as fast as the others. I'd recommend the LRP Z.28R.

Servos - I haven't had much luck with Hitec. I barely installed a couple of them and they shorted out. I've been in this hobby for over 20 years and I know I didn't cross wires or antying like that. Personally, I prefer JR servos. i use a DZ8550 for steering duties and a z590 for throttle/brake. Works great. I'm going to try the "bluebird" brand of servos in my other truggy. They are pretty cheap, but for the price worth a try. Find them at Nitrohouse.

Pipes - check the Jammin JP-1 or JP-2. I like the characteristics of the JP-2....

anyone ever thought of a peak performance diablo .28? it has 2.85hp with about 40,000rpm. saw it a few times but no one has mentioned it. is there something wrong with it? anything bad? just wondering.

R_man_5k 05-28-2006 08:18 AM

RE: Hellfire SS

I agree... DSM is the way to go. I run a 3PK with spektrum and I am hooked!

Pipe.. I love the JP-2. But is also depends on the track you run...

I have been looking to get a truggy, so if the Price is right I will pick one up.

I have an extra JP-2 pipe, spektrum reciever and an OS .21 and a LC .21 just sitting in my "shop" needing to be put in to a new ride!

Some good engines are the .21 OS V-Spec and I hear that they are going to be coming out with a .28 V-Spec.

RE: Hellfire SS

Although the .28's look good on paper, they're overkill on the track. Most of the smaller engines are more controllable while still producing enough power for racing.

Right now I'm leaning towards a Picco, or Wasp .26

:)how bout a diablo .28 with 2.85hp and over 40,000 rpm?:D

Pure overkill;)

Good luck.

i have a wasp .26 in my lsp and it is fast and instant on. it never gets hot and is always perfect i run it with a jp1 and a nova colling head, no problems here.

thanks guys. I dont race at tracks, I have a huge backyard full of dirt that I can race on. Im thinking of going with the OS .21 or possibly a .28.

That is very true. .28's are aimed mainly at the True MT class bashers/racers. .21's are just right for Truggies. Great fuel milage too, (less pit stops). My ST-R setup is a Rossi RX21P5X and a MSR 1005 pipe w/ a werks conical medium length header. (Although I'm still waiting on it in the mail.. A-main has been dragging thier feet on getting it out..)
