Hellfire Steering Problem
 

Hey I just got my Hellfire and am having blast with it. Earlier I jumped it and the axle and the thing that holds the wheel popped out. I put them back in and it was fine, however my steering was worse than it is. (Adjustment needed) It seems to not return when turned to one side. Here's a video;

Edit; OK I think I got it. I tightened the purple wheel under the thing that the servo arm is attatched to, so the two parts are flush. I still need help straightening out the steering. Yes the trim and the little turn travel knob is all the way up.

Yeah, your servo saver was probably loose. I would personally get a better servo as a first upgrade.

Take the servo horn off the servo, then set the trim to zero on the radio (making sure the receiver on the hellfire is on of course). Re-install the servo arm so it's 90 degrees (see the picture below). Once you done that, start aligning the wheels making sure to give some toe-out on the front.

OK thank you very much that fixed it. :D Now, when I turn all the way right, it's fine. But when I go all left, it buzzes, like something is straining. What's up?

The servo buzzes? If that's the case, you might have fried the servo.

Try holding the wheel in place and steering it; that noise. It's like somethings' blocking it.

Well, my servo makes a different sound (high pitched squeal) since it's digital/coreless. Can you make a video of it?

Thanks for the video.

That shouldn't be a problem as it just buzzes because the servo is trying to turn beyond the steerings end-point.

OK thanks a bunch. One more quick question; you know how the hellfire comes with two more servo horns? One has a "23" on it, the other a "24". What's the difference? Will one give me sharper steering?

The numbers represent the spline number. The spline is the gear on the servo you would attach the arm to. They're just there if you want to fit it onto a different servo (different manufacturers use different spline sizes).

The 23, 24, and 25 horns are for different brands. Each number corresponds to the number of splines on the servo's output shaft. Airtronics, JR, and KO Propo use 23, Hitec uses 24, and Futaba uses 25.

Hmm, that's a bummer. Mine has a extra nut under the adjustment one to hold it in place (see picture).. You can use thread lock on it to keep it in place. Also, the top of the servo saver assembly should go into that hex above. Make sure it's in before you re-tighten the servo saver.

Like wubby's link shows, a standard wheel nut will thread onto the cylinder. If you don't use the HPI piece, any metric nut will work, (like Kyosho, Mugen, Xray, etc.)

Also is there any way I can sharpen the steering? It seems like I can only get wide turns. I really need a sharper turning radius if I'm every going to race.

Start out by getting a digital servo (like the Hitec 5955TG). For now, add some toe-out to the front and see how it performs.

A lot of how a buggy or truggy handles is dictated by the diff setup. What I raced with was 5k in front, 7k in the center, and 3k in the rear. Someone handed that to me and it turned out to be the best thing I'd tried.

I went to the shop today and they said there was never a nut there in the first place. We even looked in the parts diagram and there wasn't any nut. He just tightened everything up really good so hopefully that will stay. I also ordered a roto start.

Yeah, I guess that nut only comes on a Hellfire SS. You can go ahead and get the nut anyways, won't do any harm.

Sweet! Now I think my frikin servo is fried! When I turn my car on, it sounds like it's spinning on the inside, but the gear isn't spinning even with the horn off! My engine also conked out while I was trying to burn the rest of the gas off. Yeah, don't expect much from the stock servo.. What happen to your engine? Also, to stop that pin from falling out, tighten the screw inside the hub (thread lock it aswell);
