RE: Dead Ninja .28

might be your clutch shoes, check those. i've heard of this problem before but i can't quite remember what causes it. but do check the clutch. also do a search on here, i know you'll find some threads on this problem. hope this helps.

RE: Dead Ninja .28

so i took it apart and put it back together.. went by my LHS and they could not tune it either.. i bought this POS from them 3 weeks ago their answer is that most likely its a lemon!!! wow 350 and you can still get a lemon.... do urself a favor and dont buy a ninja. i had a picco and got 6 gallons out of it...

contact mugen/ninja and see if they will replace it.

RE: Dead Ninja .28

I wrote them an e-mail, i hope they get back to me.. No Reedy truck race for me...

Don't give up on it yet....sounds like maybe in brake in the con rod stretched a little and pulled it out of tune......you could try a new con rod???

gil_millan1 10-10-2007 10:43 AM

RE: Dead Ninja .28

ill buy it from you the way it is. how much?

kthatch805 10-10-2007 10:54 AM

RE: Dead Ninja .28

well its still fairly new so i would want 300.00

kthatch805 10-10-2007 10:57 AM

RE: Dead Ninja .28

well if its the con rod them im really done with this motor a 350 dollar motor should not have these problems....

Ya I agree.....

Nobodies suggested the easiest thing yet, Try a new glow plug.

It's quite normal to replace the conrod after break in, if you think the during that period he rod is under the most stress it will ever see, a lot of mnufacturers recommend replacing it after the first gallon anyway to avoid this very problem.

Also, what fuel are you running it on and have you shimmed it to accept this?

kthatch805 10-10-2007 11:39 AM

RE: Dead Ninja .28

A new glow plug??? cmon man that was the 1st thing i did... im not that sofa kingdom

RE: Dead Ninja .28

Well you never said and it's often overlooked and I dont care if your a furniture shop.:D But if you are running gold springs with an alloy clutch the maybe you've got a duff spring and the shoe is dragging, so when you sit it on the groung this drag is enough to stall the engine.

kthatch805 10-10-2007 12:20 PM

RE: Dead Ninja .28

hmmmm thanks i will switch them out....

redfox03 10-10-2007 12:29 PM

RE: Dead Ninja .28

thats what i said earlier. well thats what i meant to say, Da Smak just worded it better.

Da Smak 10-10-2007 12:57 PM

RE: Dead Ninja .28

Other options are if the engine is sat too close to the spur and the gear mesh is too tight, If the brakes are on when the throttle is neutral, too rich on the bottom and it's loading up before you get it on the floor (given away by cuting out when you remove the ignitor) or maybe the engine is so out of whack that it really does need a full on retune from scratch.

RE: Dead Ninja .28

My money is on the clutch dragging. The new pinch on a Ninja is not that bad, it was very easy to break in.

kthatch805 10-10-2007 01:26 PM

RE: Dead Ninja .28

so its not the clutch i checked.. its got a leak somewhere.. after tunning it it ruins good but wont settle down.. i richend it all the way out and worked my way down to a good tune..do even when its WAY rich after a pinned run it cmes back and sounds like its starving for fuel..then bogs out..

2DMaxLST!! 10-10-2007 01:40 PM

RE: Dead Ninja .28

I would check the entire fuel system and both exhaust gaskets to make sure they are perfect.

what brand glow plug are you running ? some brands of glowplugs wont seal in the ninja head causing air leaks , the Ninja motors are pretty solid, you issue sounds very much like a tuning problem, air leak, etc.... I would be checking your fuel filters, fuel tank, fuel hose, carb cinch bolt.....

On rare occasion the Ninja's have had front bearing issue, which could result in a severe air leak....But if it isnt the front tbearing it has to be something very simple, these motors have only 4 moving parts, so there isnt much that can go wrong, there is no such thing as a lemon as the LHS is describing.... to me the LHS sounds imcompetant if they cant diagnose such a simple running problem....I would be pissed off if thats all they are willing to do for you.....

Also what head shims and nitro % are you running, as well what tuned pipe...???? what is this motor running in ?

kthatch805 10-10-2007 03:25 PM

RE: Dead Ninja .28

so my LHS after further inspection think that its the front bearing that is leaking... they sent it to horrizon today to see what they can do..

i had the same thing happen a few weeks back, engine would quit after high speed passes. it was the fuell filter pulling air at high rpm's, took me an hour to see catch it, tiny bubbles after reving with lid off. it ran great on the box but as soon as i would drive it it would quit. i doubt its the clutch shoes unless the wheels are turning as you start it. clutch shoes kill the engine when you brake.

RE: Dead Ninja .28

If I ever took an engine to my LHS and they couldnt fix a simple front bearing leak without sending it out I would find a new LHS :).

I would still like to hear the plug and fuel.

You have no shims under the head...or you didnt add the factory extra shims.... You may have to install some extra shims for running 30%

when i called mugen they said i didint neeed to...oh well im giving up on this thing and gettin another picco...

come on man, $300 is too much. It doesnt even work. I'll trade it for an STS .30 or less money.

RE: Dead Ninja .28

no thanks.. hopefully MOOOGEN will fix it for me Its being sent there... horrizon told me to ship it there.. i called MOOOGEN and they told me they will test it and i should get it back next week.

Hey Supertib, what's the normal running temp for a Ninja 28? I've been running rich at 275-300. I've seen temps as high as 325 and hate to see that! I've been fighting this tuning ever since I got it. I run 2 shims. Broke it in on 4. :-)

what pipe ya running it on ??? those temps are way too high...I would check calibration on the temp probe to be sure..... usualy our Ninja 28 runs hard at 240 ish.......these motors are actualy pretty easy to tune... 2 shims and 30% may be too much

I'm running an Ofna 086 pipe. How many shims would you suggest to run in it with 30%? I've fought this tune since day one and I'd consider myself decent in the tuning department? :D

what vehicle and what gearing ??? usualy these Ninja's are ultra simple to tune.....oh 2 shims may not be enough for a new mill on 30%

check ur clutch AND check ur LSN............for some reson ive found that the LSN on the ninja motors are very easy to have them to rich bye mistake

I'd suggest you change the pipe to a low end one. The 086 is possibly why it's getting hot.

one dragging shoe can kill an engine without turning the wheels, that's a fact. but we are assured it's not. But as the engine is off to Horizon now I guess this thread is closed and all were gonna get is an ehtry saying "OMG! Those schmucks at Horizon want $150 or Iaint going to see my engine again".

That engine comes from factory with 2 shimes installed. I'm in Germany right now and the engines are for 25 % right out of the box. For 30 % you'll need to add an extra one. I have the same engine as you and went to the states change nitro % ran fine, came back to Germany, 3 or 4 tanks w 25% and is fine again. Good luck.

Hi

i have a m21b01 and have some issues with it. I replaved the bearings and now i can't tune it anymore. My question is about the shimes, it has two installed (default) and i run 20% fuel is this then correct or should i remove one?? I can't find it anywhere on the cd-rom.
Also i am thinking that my front bearing is leaking, during installation (preheat it in oven and bearing in freezer) the rubber came loose of the front bearing, i installled it back but since then it does not run anymore. What is a quick check to see if the bearing is leaking air. Blowing in the pressureline and some soapy water around the bearing?
thanks
