Maiden Part 2!!
Well, i took the 2nd T-6A up today and see flew GREAT I was running the Power 90 with 8 cells (flew for 8 minutes and all cell were 3.78 vdc) Also flew it with a 15X10 prop.
The flight went really well no complaints on the landing!
I set my CG at 3 inches from the leading edge at the fuse. When I took her inverted at 45 degrees and full throttle to check the CG and it was a bit nose heavy (she nosed over , but not too bad but it nose heavy)
I also but about 1/8 inch of down on both ailerons (fake flaps) . Seems to have worked, I took her up high and killed he throttle and I kept her straight and level with elevator only and it finally tip stalled (and drop to the left) but no problem getting it back.
Also on landing (the E-Flite Retracts worked GREAT!!!!!) I had 2 clicks of throttle and she flew in very nicely, went to 1 click and it settled into the landing. I bounced a bit on the landing, but that was more my fault than the planes.
She a great flying plane, and needs to flown like a warbird.
The rain came, so I could only get one flight in today!! But when sitting at the field the other guys just love the plane!!
I am so glad I got it back in the air!!
Next I will try the 16x10 prop (more speed
)
If your thinking about getting one, do it!!!
Almost done with my Twin Otter and trust me these 2 planes will turn heads at the field!!

Thanks
But I have one question, when she does tip stall she drops the left wing and when taking off, she drops the left wing as well (not a lot, but noticable and it must be corrected for)
So my question is do I add some weight to the right wing at the tip (about a 1/4 to 1/2 oz) to take away the drop??

Using the ailerons as flaps increases tip stalling tendency. I would check the lateral balance of the plane before adding weight to a wingtip.

Well I flew it without flaps and a normal wing congfig - with a CG set at 3 inch from LE at the fuse.
She flew great!! I also put on a 16x10 prop with my Power 90 and she flew fast and powerful.
Great plane, just keep the speed up - also I checked my lateral balance and found it was heavy on the left side, so I put 3/4 oz in my right wing and it balanced out well. Also when I took it up high and stalled it, she did not tip to the left like it used to, so it nosed down, which helps when you tip stall (at least that is what I see or know)
Love her!! had 4 flights and no issues, it was a good day!!
Just remember, warbird land at speed and land on the mains, not the nose

The build is pretty straight forward if your going nitro. Iwould only make the one suggestion of going with the Eflite retracts (Ihave flown the T-6A both ways, and love the eflite option!
otherwise you will love this bird flies great and looks really good!!! just be aware it likes speed when landing, but other than that mine has no bad habits!!

Thanks bob, I have a question for you, which pushrods did you use for the Retracts? was is the smallest ones. also for the front retract, which pushrod is for steering and which one is for the retract? is the bent one for the retract? I can't wait to get it built and up in the air.
Thanks,
Jeff

Ibelieve the main retracts pushrods where the short ones, they are pretty beefy, and the one with the bend is the one used for the steering. just make sure you take your time with the retracts and getting them adjusted right. but once you get them set up they work great.
Had mine up for a few flights today love to fly her!!

Thanks Bob, Glad you got to fly yours today. I can't wait to fly mine. I have to pushrods that are kinda small in diameter, and the only thing I could think of that they went to was the main retracts. the short beefy ones seem to go to the ailerons.
Thanks,
Jeff

I have a question for you all, espically the ones who used a nitro motor. Where did you put the battery? I bought a LIFE Battery, and was wondering if you put it in the battery area or did you put it in with the servo's and electronics. Got it built, all that's let is to mount the reciever and battery. also where did you all run your antenna from the reciever to? Did any of you install an antenna tube? or just run it out the back somewhere?
Thanks,
Jeff

I'm really interested in this plane for an everyday warbird. I'd like to convert it over to a Navy version which'll be electrified with an EFlite 90 8S and electric retracts. A couple of questions. I'm having trouble finding a "navy" version on the internet. I've seen blue with the word Navy written on the side and only seen one that was the traditional orange/white. Was the orange one experimental and they're going to stick with the blue/white? Also, are the USAF decals easy to get off or do I need to recover the plane to put the Navy nomenclature on it? http://www.airliners.net/photo/USA-N...aaf14186e0eba1
Thanks,
John

On mine, I had to put the AF decals on. So I think if you can find appropriate Navy markings it should be easy. Even if you have to remove them they should come off easily after warming them a bit with a heat gun.

There were only one or two Blue/White T-6A's delivered to the Navy. The rest are Orange/White and I even saw one that was painted in the legacy all-yellow. Here in Pensacola we see all three color schemes flying around. All of the Blue/White models that I've seen are Air Force, operating under a joint trainingagreement with the Navy. Also, the current Navy model is a T-6B with a full glass cockpit.I would guess that there are no more T-6A models in service.

Patrick, I have seen one or two blue/white Navy T-6A/B Texans flying around Pensacola, The fire station I work at is in the landing pattern to Pensacola Regional, So they are always flying over. Were those pics taken @ PAC? Also where do you fly at, and do you have a T-6A Texan II.
