Default SisT FW-190 A8 Schwarze 8

Hello all, I figured I would start a thread on my newest project of my newly aquired SisT FW-190 A8. I purchased this kit from a gentleman that is also a fellow RCU member. The scheme I am most likely going with is Black 8 flown by Willi Maximowitz.

This will most likely take some time to build as I am very busy as of late. I will also be asking fellow members for help and advice when I have questions, and I will have questions. Pics soon to follow.

Great Plane. Build it light. As you know, the details are amazing. A little bit of love and some elbow grease and you to can have one of these!

There never seems to be enough Sist Fw build threads on RCU to keep me satisfied, seeing as I can't really justify getting one in the near future, so i can't wait to watch this one progress

Good Luck, you lucky dog!!!

Thanks

Thanks for the comments guys.

For those of you who have built this before I have a question on the degreasing of parts. Manual says to use Acetone, is it ok to use denatured alcohol to clean the parts for bonding of structural parts or do I need to make a run to the hardware store?

D/A is perfectly good to use. acetone is nasty ***** to use. also, for cleaning plastic parts, nothing beats dishwashing soap (sunlight for example)
and some warm water.

Thanks for the quick reply, I've used acetone in the past for other things and thats why I was a bit concerned with using something so strong.

So per your advice I started with a bit of the build on the Fuse and am gluing in the wing reinforcement plates. I am using Hysol epoxy as it seems to be the standard for gluing the majority of the plane. The Hysol is a bit pricey though.

Good luck. I built a SIS T Fw-190 "Black 8" a few years ago. Great build/great flyer. You can see pictures of it on DJ Aerotech's website. Good luck with yours.

Very nice Cal !! I dig it! But I must say when it comes to completed SisT kits, I like every single one that I have seen or has been posted. Makes for picking a color scheme very hard for me when you like them all.

Here is the gun hood in traction while the epoxy dries on the support G10 material. Those that have built this can tell I am not following any specific order in the instructions, I'm just trying to get some of the small stuff done, while the Hysol drys on other parts.

I didn't use Acetone to clean my Sis-T fuse. I used prepsol instead. Its available from auto paint stores and is used to prep a surface before priming.. works very well.

It's all progress!

BTW I'm a retired union glazier, we used 98 percent medical grade isopropanol (alcohol) to clean everything you can imagine.
It cuts all oily residue from what you're cleaning, and evaporates quickly. I used it after a soap bath on my Fliteskin 109 glass parts, and followed up with glass cleaner to remove any soap or alcohol residue

It was "squeaky clean!"

Lol

You lucky S O B. Every time I have the money to buy a SiST I can never get one. When I don't have the money they are few and far between.

The SiST is one of the best looking Fw 190 kits (both the Antons and Dora's) out there. Good luck with it and I hope you do it up well. They are worth the effort.

PS: this post is coming to you from the Dora's homeland...

Evil,

Me too, but this time I think I saved enough for one

As long as uncle sam doens't take too much I should have enough to get one this year!

I have to finish my P-47 first. I have an Inzpan cockpit already for the 190A too.

Evil

I was looking at the new minster 190d9 fuse pictures it looks pretty smooth and it doesn't look to detailed. Are they just bad pic's?

The fuse only has the major panel lines and a few hatches/bays on it. Mostly its just a canvas to create what you wish. Its good because with little work you can create any of the Dora's not just the 9.

Hey Doug,

I'm glad you found it, I was going to send you a link via email but you beat me to it. Don't worry it is in good hands, and I will enjoy every minute of this build! I do hope you enjoy the build thread.

Curt
