RE: ESM FW D-9
I agree that these are cheaper to buy in comparison to better quality FW's like the SIST. I just hope that someone in the design of these are paying attention to the details of this forum and plan on making the kit more friendly as for the build with needing less modifications to make things reliable.
Kits like SIST set the standards, hopefully more companies will follow. I'm glad to have the ESM product line but would be willing to pay more for more!

Alright, I will shoot you an email. Yes, I flew my Pica D9, my Fokker DVII and FOkker DR1. Lost the DR1 to a radio unbind on Friday. Kinda bummed me out but will build another. I thought the demos were well done. Especially the B29 re-enactment. Missed the snowcones, probably a good thing!
Evans D13 was amazing. I was surprised how much blackness came out of his exhausts though. It was running really rich on the oil. The effect was scale, but I am sure it will lighten up when it breaks in.

I have to add that in spite of all the trouble I had with my AW P-51, I love it anyway Its an excellent flying model and I would bet the B is going fly just as well. On the other hand, I just ordered my D9 in a package deal with Sierra retracts, all around, and Tys cockpit...my spinner is already on the way, im using the Aeroworks P-51 spinner, looks like it will be a great match

RE: ESM FW D-9
Hey Guy's
Have been working away but not much in the way of visual progress. The flight controls have been pinned, the canopy has received some extra screws, the over wing cannon blisters have been attached and I have started with the gear doors. I have got the L/H side one on, but i'm not really all that happy with it, So i might do the R/h side and then come back to the L/H and rectify it.
I'm still waiting on the servos to arrive, and the rest of the work will now all be internal in the fuse. I did pop her outside for some eye candy shots to keep me going
Thanks
dave

The spinner was just thrown onto the front so not aligned. The wheel collars didn't fit and I'm still waiting for Sierra to get back to me about what were going to do with them. They are no good to me now, as I've made some up that will work. Not as good or as nice as the sierra collars but I'm not waiting for him either.
If i get some time this weekend ( I doubt it...) I'll get the layout for all equipment under the hood going. I'm going to set it up fairly similar to how I did my turbine model.I also better start thinking about getting in contact with a Heavy Model Inspector as well.
Thanks

I'm happy with mine, but your standards may be higher!!
I have thrown away all the fixtures and fittings, removed the spring from the tailwheel, had to 'adjust' the up/down lock on the main gear (it was too tight) to get a reliable up/down, bend the horizontal stab joiner tube a bit so the tail halves meet with the fuz. Other than that, it's gone together ok.
I now have my engine mounted and am working on mounting the cowl, still left is the cockpit (waiting for a Ty kit and canopy) weather and seal, also the dreaded wheel pants (they will need some work!)
PS XYZ engine now starting by hand, It took 3x 24oz tanks of fuel to wear it all in and is currently tirning a menz 22x10 wood at 5800rpm.

I've been looking at one of these. Were you happy with the kit? I'm of two minds about getting one

I would buy another no problems! but everyone is different. In the way of ARF, ESM are not too bad. there are a few things you need to do out of the box to make them right, but overall not too bad.
As for the decision to get one.... I think Austars have already made that for you. I believe they have sold out before the kit arrived intot eh country and the next order is due to arrive Nov/Dec[X(].
5800rpm on a 22x10 doesn't seem all that far off?? It's pretty close to DLE55 figures. Having said that, I do think that it may be a little too much prop for it for running in (I'm running the same size). time will tell.
Hey Mud, what did you change to get it starting properly? was it just the timing?
Thanks

RE: ESM FW D-9
Hi Dave,
I just ran 3 tanks through it to loosen it up/wear it in a bit. The pickup is still 30deg BTDC, 50:1 mix oh and I richened the pow end a smidge.
Jimmy,
I would be interested to know your figures when you get to it. I'm confident I have plenty of grunt and if the maiden goes ok I'll consider a carbon prop, that'll give me a bit more rpm's.

Hey Mud, will do...I just need to get out and do it now, I built the stand today and will wait for some cooler weather which is coming very soon, its nearly fall here in Arkansas and the engines will fare well, with the cool air for static runs. Thanks a lot for the instruction of TDC I have never needed to know that before I bought this little twin...The info will be valuable. Ill keep ya posted, now for that little brown truck to show up in my driveway to bring me a large box...

RE: ESM FW D-9
The last of the excuses has arrived
I have already replaced the throttle servo, and I will be installing the retract valve soon.
As you can see by the pic's I have been working away at the area under the gun hood. It's mainly 3mm ply with a single layer of carbon for that bling bling look[X(] very scale... there are a few more holes to drill into the deck, but they relate mostly to the power lines coming into the turboreg and the servo lines coming into the R/X. I'll also be placeing the satelite r/x's outside the carbon area.
Thanks

RE: ESM FW D-9
Greetings everyone,
Recieved mine today.
What a beauty! I m extatic.
I plan to do some work on it this winter by putting a pit of my own and so on maybee a repaint. dunno yet.
One or 2 question; How did you unglue the gun hatch panel? mine looks like it's holding by a ton of glue!
Mine will be set for electrons, a 2400w motor runnng on either 10 or 12S hope it s gonna be enough.
Bye for now,
Lio

Ticketec,
That Focke Wulf looks nice! So you are getting closer and closer to the maiden flight now?
I hope there will be a video.
That gun hood area; It seems to me you now have carbon fibe on the floor, on all the walls, and on the roof.
That the same as a Faraday's chamber. It might just as well be made of metal.
No use to put a receiver in there at all, really?
