...the Corsair could CATCH THEM FASTER than the HellCat could. That is why they needed them (corsairs) on the carriers.

Jimmy, the F6F was 2 feet wider than the Jug. The WH Hellcat scale is 1 : 6.11 - the Topflite is 1 : 5.75. The full scale airplanes shared the same P&W R2800 engine with some modifications.
I held the DA50 in the cowl kinda lost in there hehe.

Speaking of scale, based on your diagrams Pete, Tom did his homework on the scale lines of this plane, looks almost traced onto the paper

Pete, since you got the short cowl, just curious as to why are you putting a DA50 in it and not a G62? Isnt the short cowl for the G62?

That is easy to answer - I don't like the Zenoah (Titan) engines. Besides that, the short cowl - as I understand - is for more scale appearance. You need probably more weight in the front to balance the airplane, which for some modelers a heavier engine the choice of poison. I just like my DA50 and I have no problem to strap a little weight on front...

G-Pete,
I was looking at the picture of the inside of the fuselage as it goes down toward the tail. What material is being used for the turtledeck? Iam having a difficult time telling what the fuselage skin is on different parts; wood, composite, film.

It appears that it comes without installed decals. Is that correct?
It irritates me when a manufacturer comes out with a really nice warbird ARF and it's covered and sealed with just the decals I don't want.
I like my Corsairs and P-47s, but I've always wanted a nice F6F-3 or -5. I'll follow this thread closely.
Interested in how the retracts hold up on this heavy model.

The WH retracts in the photos look pretty good, though who knows how HARD the alloy is... No worries, though. Darrel at Sierra precision could knock out a set of bullet-proof gear for it. I sure like the looks of this bird so far. Would be a good companion for my TF GS P-47, only without that damned ONE-PIECE wing. What a p.i.t.a.!

Hey, Pete!
You going to have it flying in time for the NDRCC warbird meet in June?

The WH assembly manual states
Open and Inspect everything
Install control horns and hinge all the surfaces
Install the radio receiver into the fuselage so that servos can be tested/adjusted
Assemble the wings completley
ect ect
Well, after I got the wing(s) on the bench and installed the hinges and control horns I continued with the wing. A little detour from the manual. Tomorrow I will throw the gear in...
1 That little cutout on the opening for the hinges makes it possible to have almost no gap between the trailing edge and control surface. My method is 15min epoxy for the hinges.
2 Test fit every hinge
3 Nice hardware, if you point the left thread of the turn buckle to the control horn in the surface, then you turn counter clockwise for down and clockwise for up
4 The turn buckle half way in.
5 I installed the servo for the elevator and put them under power, then you can place the servo horn straight up and fasten the servo horn.
6 After attachment the bolts and nuts - power up the servo again and with few turns of the buckle the surface is ready. Note: the LE and TE nicely together.
7 Cutouts for the aileron horns.
8 These servo trays come pre-glued, they only have to be attached to the hatch. (also you can install the servos directly without the hatch like on the aerobatics.
9 I made a little templet for the servo tray location at the hatch and cutouts on the wing.
10 This need to be cut - Mr, Dremel's job.
11 All in place - on to the other side.
12 Looks good...night night

Not to be nick picky but it looks like they didn't do the inner flaps? That is kind of a bummer Hellcats look good with all the flaps hanging down but it is an ARF can't have everything. Maybe I just missed them......

I will say again, the plane was meant for guys who may not have years of building experience, I wanted it to be simple where possible.

G-Pete,
Next time you get your camera out, can you take a picture or two of the engine mounting box?
Thank you.

By this weekend I think I hang the engine - latest mid next week.

I love a good 15 min high speed flight, so I have a sickness

why would you want a 32 oz fuel tank. How long would a 50cc motor last on that size of fuel tank
