JBryson. Great pics. My old neighbor was a navigator on B-17's. Spent the last 1 1/2 of WWII in Stalag Luft 1. They lost an engine and fell out of formation and was immediately pounced on by Fw190's. All bailed out with no loses but inside Germany. Jack had the worst injury, grazed on the neck by a 20mm. Captured by a German officer (making out with his girlfriend by a bush next to the bridge) while sneaking across a bridge in the middle of the night. All 10 were taken to a farm house to call in. Jack said the old lady there treated him like her own son while attending his neck wound. He was the American Legion Post Commander untill he passed. He is where I got Luft Gangster from. ( one of the names they were called. the other was Terror Fleegan ) Hub Zemke was his commander at Stalag Luft 1

HEY LUFT, GOOD STORY. THAT'S A PICTURE OF MY DAD AND THE PLANE THEY FLEW THEIR LAST MISSIONS IN "OLD COCK". DAD WAS THE FLIGHT ENGINEER, TOP TURRET, FLEW 35 MISSIONS , 8TH AIR FORCE, 303 BOMB GROUP, "HELL'S ANGEL'S". HIS DIARY OF THEIR MISSIONS IS REALLY INTERESTING. A LOT OF HIS STUFF IS ON DISPLAY AT THE LONE STAR FLIGHT MUSEUM IN GALVESTON, TEXAS. HE DID THE AIRWORTHINESS CERTIFICATION AT ONE TIME FOR THEIR B-17 "THUNDERBIRD" JOHN

JBryson (John) My dad would have given anything to have been part of that. Born Dec 1928, he was too young. Graduated High School in 1947 after 3 attempted enlistments during WWII according to my grandmother. Rejected because of age and trying to enlist in his home town of Paintsville Ky. Married my mom in Oct 47 and moved to Michigan to work in the auto factories. Didn't want to be a coal miner and his mom kicked him out of the house because he was married. Couldn't find housing in Willow Run Village because it was reserved for veterans only. He went to Harrys Army Surplus and purchased a A2 flight jacket and no questions asked, rented a place. His little brother paid the ultamate price in Korea in July 1953 as part of the 1st Marine Div. Dad had to identify his little brother looking at body parts. According to my grandfather, years later, my uncle was hit by a .50cal and never knew what hit him. Dad once again tried to enlist and was rejected because Korea was over and he was married with 2 children. One was me. Mom said dad cried when I went to Viet Nam - 8th Aerial Port Squadron MOB, USAF, but I'm still here. Only the good die young.

God Bless Those Who Serve!

If that doesn't get your patriotic juices flowing, get the h#@ out of the country! Thanks for posting that pete. Still makes me sick to think some of the pansies in this country were "offended" by Toby Keiths "war mongering tone". Thank God for all our brave serviceman, without them we the Reich just might have started it's 1000 year rule. Thankfully the our brave still far outnumber the lilly livers!! Semper Fi, Nick
