RE: CARF F4U-1 Corsair build thread
I can't imagine what went wrong with the static score's. Did the judge's give any suggestion for any correction's ?
I can't see anything wrong with it other than the Moki doesn't look like a Pratt & Whitney 2800 .

Wayne the only way they could see the servo is if 1 they used a mirror 2 they looked directly up into the tail wheel area. Other wise I have to agree with Pappy 883. I just can't understand the scoring considering how it did at the Toledo show. John T.

During the judging they can and will ask you you move the aircraft just so they can look in all the areas that you would not normally see or even think about.

The Toledo show isn't really a competition.. its a show. A beauty contest for the most part.
TG should be a real competition. The judges have their references provided by the enterant. I don't know how the judges saw the servo but obviously they did. Its not hard to lose a quarter point here or there and it does add up.

Here is an example. I first thing I saw when the AC was standing on its nose for the judges was the black and gold 8711 servo with the gold colored aluminum arm inside the white wheel well. It stood out. The judges don't want to see that.
A better option IMHO would have been to paint the servo and all the related parts the same color as the wheel well to, at the very least, Blend in.
For a first time showing at Top Gun brian and gary did a hell of a job, hands down.
Please don't mistake what I'm saying here........This aircraft is a work of art and they all could be very proud of what they done.

I do believe that there's no static in the world like Top Gun judging. Its the best of the best and very tough.
There's many factors that are combined for the total score. Outline, color, markings and crafsmanship. The crafsmanship judge can get as close as he or she likes. While the model is stood up on its nose for outline judging, the crafsmanship judge can look all over the top and bottom of the bird. You cant run or hide from these judges. :-)

Well it certantly was a learning experiance for them and me. Even though I have only been following on this thread I haven't competed in scale before but hope to with my P-47 when I get it finished.
Gary and Brian deserve a lot of credit for what they have done. John T.

When i first met Gary and Brian at the Clevland field with Big Hog #1 i wanted to get more involved and want to say thanks for giving me the chance to add some of my craft to the build . Also i like to give thanks to Wayne for the video of her in flight , it is the only time i could here the exhaust pipes in action . So far it seems to be the only vid to be had.
Congrats guys on an execlent job and great flying skills by Dino.

Zombie flew in Pro Am, but Gary did not make the cut. Because of the amount of work on the Corsair, he was running on 2 hrs. sleep and the flying was difficult. The 47 operated flawlessly. He unloaded a bit when he joined us in the warbird gaggle with Zombie and played aircraft dodgeball with us.....heh heh...........................Doug

I'm proud to have a possibility to be a small part of this Top Gun story. Thank you guys for nice time...
Congratulation one more time to Garry and Brian on work on Corser, and of course to Dino on the flying...
I'm still in USA, but in next few days when return to Serbia, I'll post pictures and video of Corser, and all Top Gun happenings...
Untill than, all the best, and thanks again for fantastic time under Meister Scale tent...
Regards
Mirce

RE: CARF F4U-1 Corsair build thread
From the Down and locked shop Ron and I would like to thank everyone involved with Gary Brian Dom Dino and Team Vought for what I consider one of the most elaborate and scale detailed aircraft built for Top Gun. I spent the better part of 20 years competing in professional motorsports and I for one understand the labor of love and dedication by the primary builders of Big Hog, and would simply like to say job well done and we are honored to have had the opportunity to be a part of it. Great photo shots Mirce.
Those are the first shots i have seen of the smoke pump totally installed . I still have a few bugs to work out of it as all know ( shame on me ) . But those exhaust pipes look and sound fantastic. . Well 50% isn't all bad . Just wait till next year !

So what's next for Big Hog and the team?
Gary,
do you plan on competing with the corsair again this year, will you continue to work on scaling it out more ( if that is even possible)? Or does a plane like this get retired?
I have watched from to start on your road to Top Gun and have learned so much from you guys along the way. But now that TG 2012 is in the books, where do you go from here?

RE: CARF F4U-1 Corsair build thread
Great job guys.
I was looking for a little help with my corsair I have been flying for the past two years. It appears I have a leak in the accumulator diaphram since oil is coming out when I drain the air and the system will not keep its prime for more thatn a few minites at a time. I was wondering if any of you know where I can get a replacement accumulator. the rest of the unit seems to be operating fine. I know I can get a new hydrolic unit from comp-arf but they want over $400 for it and I would like to save a nickel or two.
