I have also used "Final Net" hairspray which is lacquer based I believe.
It does a nice job of sealing the wood prior to glassing, is easy and quick.

The fiberglassing of the wing went well. It was much easier then plastic covering. The fiberglass conformed to the surface much more then I through it would. After I put the primer on I noticed some low spots that Ill need to fill before the next coat of paint goes on. What do you guys use for filler over fiberglass?

smk,
You might try the Evercoat line of fillers.
They are easy to use , dry pretty quickly and sand very smooth..
You can find them at most auto parts stores.

The best filler I've come across is a simple mixture of Acetone and glazing putty (I like the Bondo brand stuff). It fills like a good high-build primer, sands even easier, and is much cheaper. A couple of coats of that sanded off, and then one or maybe two coats of filler-primer and usually more than enough to get a glass smooth surface.

Took 3 years but the AT6 is back on its wheels. Still have a bunch of things to do. Replaced the g26 with a new DLE30, this took about 1.4lbs off the nose. Also replacing the batteries and fuel tank. Hope to get it in the air by the end of the year.

You will probably be putting that back in some form. The airplane is notoriously tail heavy, although less so if you ignore Midwest's recommended balance point and instead balance at about 28% of the total wing area.

My plane was nose heavy and could not get it to 28%. So at least now when or if I have to add weight I can move it around to get the correct cg.
Chad, Do you what the total weight of your plane is without fuel?

I never accurately weighed my airplane Steve but it was about 17 pounds on the fish scale, so give or take half a pound.

Got the t6 fully assembled. Total weight is 14.2 lbs. CG at 5.5 inches back is good, no extra weight is needed. I do have one question. What part of the plane do you use to look a level? I checked both horizontal stabilizer and on the wing between the wheels.

Hi folks. I read with interest as I've just acquired a Midwest Texan. Its built but not fitted out or flown and I don't have any plans or instructions.

Are you all happy with 5.5" CG from root leading edge?

What are the Aileron and Elevator throws?

Having read the thread, it sounds like 16-18lbs is about the weight. I would like to put a Saito 33 R3 up front but haven't measured the cowl yet. If not i'll go for an OS or Saito single petrol.

Thanks
