Ran into a issue digitizing the wheel hub. The digitizing process would run for eight to nine hours then just lock up. It did this a few times and have had to spend a bit of time on the CNC forums to figure this out.

Anyways I now have a rough version captured at 0.035 resolution and will now start the long process of capturing data at a 0.01 resolution.

After 27 hours of digitizing, I now have a 0.01 resolution capture of the LA-7 wheel hub. I am going to have a 3D Laser scan done too just so I can see the difference in quality of the two types of scans (Prob & Laser). The laser scan is just to satisfy my own curiosity and I am sure I will be using the Laser scan version to cut these hubs.

Figured out how long the engine standoffs need to be (94 mm). This will give the prop 8 mm of clearance...

Did a bunch of small items today:

- Mounted the oil cooler
- Test fit the fuel and oil tanks
- Adjusted the tray a bit to allow the fit with the control panel
- Committed to internal elevators
- Cut some standoffs but decided they were too heavy (ordered some thinner pipe from McMaster-Carr)
- Tried to figure out how to keep the access panel door closed without too much engineering

Had a bit of time between work conference calls this morning

- Cut the four 94mm standoffs and primed them
- Started working on shaping the area around the oil cooler to the aircraft body

Haven't got much done due to other commitments, but finished:

- molding in the oil cooler
- built the 94mm standoffs
- installed the turbulator and K&Nfilter

Lack of planning got me this morning... Went to bolt the motor to the standoff carbon filber plate and the carburetor would not fit through the hole. Had to take the carbureto/turbulator off and install it after mounting the motor to the plate.

Installed the:

- Futaba PSS 2018
- Fuel servo
- Worked on test fitting the APSPowerFuel380HV and PowerSmoke 740HV

Ithink Igoing to have to mount the fuel and smoke pumps upside-down on the bottom of the lower tray.

Got fed up with trying to braze aluminum for a custom exhaust for the LA7 so I bought myself a Miller TIG welder today….

Want an exhaust with seven ports per side to match the full scale LA7.

About 2k shipped with some other welding items... I have other plans for it too other than just this LA7 project.

If aluminm does not work out, I will switch over to thin wall stainless steel tubing which I know I can weld.

I am going to do something that I really don't want to do because they aren't scale, but with all the reports of engine overheating issues with LA7, I have decided to put some louvers in the bottom of the cowl. Going to mold them in so that they aren't that noticeable (hopefully).

Louvers do a great job of extracting air. Most people don't realize that is probably the most important part of air flow, create a good low pressure area to move all that hot air out.
Trying to force it through from the front will never work as well as pulling it out the back. I've run gassers with 1:1 entrance vs exit with perfect cooling when a low pressure area is employed.

What scale is this for the LA7? I don't see it listed on your website.

Also, any update on when the full cockpit will be available for the Carf P-47?

Its 1/4 scale and is a custom panel:

http://www.iflytailies.com/store/ins...m-instruments/

If you would want one (or any custom panel), we would need you to send in a drawing showing the outline of the panel that would fit into your particular cockpit.

We are working on the CARF P-47 accessories. I hope to have at least the instrument panel and decal set out this summer.

I will get with you on the La7 once I get closer to the cockpit stage. I am ready to purchase the Carf P47 items as soon as you have them...
