I've been flying my Corsair for better than a year now and have just loved the airplane. Unfortunately this past weekend I had an incident and the plane went in. I got somewhat fortunate that it hit a brush pile near our field which saved it from being a total loss. The 2 main things I need to get it back in the air are a complete wingset and a new cowl. They are obviously available from Top Flite, however they are saying they won't be in until the end of July. Considering we only have around 3-4 months of decent flying weather here in Wisconsin, I was wondering if any one has or knows someone who may have either of these items for sale so that I could get back flying sooner. Just thought I'd through it out there.
Thanks,
John

Thanks Chris, hopefully it'll fly again this year, I'm shooting for Fond du Lac, but I'm thinking that's probably not going to happen as I don't think I'll be able to round up all the parts by then.

Just picked one of these up from the classifieds here. It's missing the main gear doors and wheel well inserts. I don't want to run the doors on our grass field, but would like to fill some of the huge wells. If you used the doors and still have the wheel well inserts laying around please let me know. Thanks, glenn.

That's what I was thinking too. If nobody has the wells to get rid of then I'll find some of the right size and use some 1/8" ply for mounts. Wish the manufactures would sell these things seperate. Seems they all package the wheel wells with the wing assembly. Makes it a real pain if you can't find them or break one digging into the wing to fix something else.

Thank you very much. One less thing to mess with before I fly this thing. air leak in the retract system is fixed. need to swap out the rx and bind and decide if I'm going to get a wrap around muffler for the older DLE 55 that is in the plane or just swap it out for the 55rear muffler sitting on the shelf. From what i hear about the rear muffler I need to have the exhaust tubes welded or they will fall out after a flight or two. Sounds like a good excuse to go visit a friend I used to help out in his fab shop.

OK, I'm an idiot. Looked at that pic in the manual again last night and THIS time I noticed that all that covers the opening is a flat piece with an opening for the wheel and strut. D'OH! For some reason I thought they were a tub shaped piece like on most other planes. Sorry guys, no need to keep looking for something that's not there. I have some 1/16 birch ply that will do the job very nice so I can just make my own and paint to match.

Im about to order this bird, Ive always wanted one! I do have a question.... Im wondering how it will fit in my trailer along side my other plane. Does anybody know what the width of the plane is without the wings bolted on? Since the gull wing stays on the fuse with the retracts, I know its going to be wider than most planes.
Thanks!
Thanks!

It will not. Not even close really. I ordered the aftermarket cowl for mine and it fits over the engine with about 1/8" to spare. Going to have to figure how to mount it now. I'll post up pics when I get to that point. With a little luck it will be by the end of the week.

Yes I did. Took the plane to a friends house last night and started mounting everything. Got all the guts crammed in the fuse. Went to a 16oz tank to make more room inside. Should still be able to get 15 minutes on that no problem. Headed back over with the cowl today. My bud has some ideas for mounting the cowl. I had to get someone else involved. Every time I went to mount something I didn't like it and had to reinvent the wheel to get it to fit. Took it over there and things just started going together. I'll get pics of the cowl today, but this pic should show why the stock cowl isn't going to work.

Or this. This is the handy work of a good friend Ernie think he goes by Warbird72 on here. He has helped me on this one from the day I got the FG84 and we fired it up in his shop that night. I have got to sit back and just lend a hand here and there for the last two days. By doing so he has put her together the way I would have wanted it and taught me a few new tricks. Don't let the thickness of the cowl mount blocks fool you. You can lift and shake the plane HARD by the front of the cowl and NOTHING moves.

With that much engine........ you might want to baffle with foam insulation board. It weighs almost nothing and takes almost no glue or weight for securing and support.

Got everything mounted and ready for CG check yesterday. After waiting almost two weeks for the EZ-balancer to arrive I was NOT impressed. At it's widest setting it would rest about half way down the gull slope on the wing. I really didn't want to put that much weight on that point. Looking at the cg point it looks like it is right at the aluminum spar in the center section. As it turns out the stand I made is just the right width to rest the ends of the spar on top of the stand. So I did my first check with the outer panels off and resting on the spar. That let the spinner drop about 6" from level. 2 more oz in the tail cone would let it sit level. I almost put that weight in, but decided to mount the wing panels and see how much the servos dropped the tail first. Glad I did. I slid the outer wing panels on till they had about a 1" gap. Then me an my buddy lifted it from the stand resting the exposed spar on a block of wood. Now the nose only drops about 1" from level. So it's just a bit nose heavy, but close. Forecast for tomorrow is 50% rain. Come on sun!
