RE: Fliteskin Spitfire
Here is the tail wheel assembly that I got from Sierra...It's beautiful, but seems alittle big when held to the plans. Does anyone know if he sells two different sizes? Perhaps I've gotten a 1/4 scale. It seems to be about an inch longer in the strut than needed. Hmmm.

Thanks Brad, I dont think that I had that page up when I ordered...I was calling Darrell about tires and just asked...by the picture, it would seem like the correct one(he even lists the BT spit for the tailwheel)but mine looks alittle big. I'll give him a call and see I guess.
Chad, You're probably right about it being just as easy to make the retracted version...I was just thinking of slacking abit lol

RE: Fliteskin Spitfire
Brad
my first BT spitty was built about 10 years ago (one of my first builds).
pretty much simple build, panel lines only, no rivets, detail etc.
weighed in at 16 pounds with a Moki 1.8, shinden gear. had 40-50
flights on it. lost it due to a solder joint failure on my elevator setup.
second was built about 7 years ago. panel lines, rivets cockpit, 1.8
Moki, shinden gear, more detail. weighed in at 23 pounds.
both where PR colors
second lasted only seconds to pilot error, see results

RE: Fliteskin Spitfire
flew it straight into the catch fence
look at the picture prior to the crash and you will see the right rudder.
I screwed up and let it drift to far past centerline. had alot of rudder in
it, at the last minute it was too late. pilot error[:@]

They were both very nice looking Spitfires sir, and so Casey is 'Our' Aussie Mk VIII with shark mouth. In my (humble) opinion the Spit looks awesome and is a natural shape for a shark mouth.
Cheers,

RE: Fliteskin Spitfire
It is a very nice scheme, but us Americans grew up watching John Wayne flying with the Flying Tigers, and they're P-40's....sharks mouths all around...so I guess its somewhat ingrained into our brains lol.....P-40=sharksmouth...I know the story is that one of the american guys saw a british plane with it, and adopted it...so we're all crazy to think that lol

RE: Fliteskin Spitfire
Very much worth it Brad! You will love them I'm sure! I've been looking over different schemes... I'll post what I'm thining of and let you all help me decide I guess. I really want to see just how light I can get this one as Vic laid up a special fuse for me knowing I'm going electric. If I remember right, my fuse weighs just over 3 pounds as is. If I do go with the light as possible theme, I'll probably go with the new Spit wheels from Williams Brothers... I think I will pick a rather easy scheme as well to keep the paint weight down too. Of course this would mean no sound, but perhaps if I can keep the weight down everywhere else...
Oh yes, and I'm pretty sure I'll go with a MK IX(rounded tail )

RE: Fliteskin Spitfire
Another thing is my motor...here are the specs.
AXI Gold 5345/14 HD Outrunner Motor Specs
Number of cells: 8 - 10 LiPo
RPM/V: 225
MAX Efficiency: 93%
MAX Efficiency current: 36 - 84A (>85%)
No load current / 30 V: 2,6A
Current capacity: 110A/20S
Internal Resistance: 27mohm
Dimensions (diameter x length): 63x81mm
Shaft diameter: 8mm
Weight with cables: 35.09 oz. (995g)
Recommended setups for AXI 5345/14 HD Gold Line:
AXI 5345/xx HD GOLD LINE motors are suitable for 3D models up to 17-1/2 pounds (8000g) and aerobatic models up to 26-1/2 pounds (12000g) and large realistic flying scale models up to 33 pounds (15000g) in weight. The lack of gearbox noise makes these motors particularly suitable for scale models. Motor is more robust for unlimited 3D and has new 10mm shaft inside the motor turned down to a standard 8mm shaft on the outside. Prop shaft adapter is 12mm diameter. Three larger ball bearings, including a huge rear bearing allow unlimited load while 3D flying. AXI 5345 HD GOLD LINE replaces previous AXI 5345 GOLD LINE.
I have more than enough power to just use the 8 cells here allowing me to save another pound and a half+(estimate)
I may still be able to use a sound system(weighs about 2 pounds) and keep it under 19-20 lbs(depending on detail)hmmm

RE: Fliteskin Spitfire
I'll have the upgrade parts for Chad's cockpit in a couple of weeks. I'll try to do a build on that leading into the Spit build. Some of the bulkheads need to be installed rather early( needs to be built in place basically)and this helps develop the layout that you will need to work with, or around.
