Hello Spitfire friends,
here is my Lady, 1: 4, 2,8 m wingspan with a ZDZ80, Prop Fiala, 26x14, take-off weight 22 kg.
Behotec landing gear, C50 with 95 °.
A complete homebuilt, described in the German Warbirdforum.

Ok, I just picked up the Seagull 50cc 86” version. I bought all new servos for this but when I came to put in the elevator ones, the opening is for a mini servo, even though it calls out for “10 standard size servos”. It isn’t possible to open up the hole for a standard size servo or I will be cutting into the sheeting.
So how much torque is needed for the elevator on this since the manual doesn’t suggest anything? I am going to be using an unregulated lipo for the RX so they need to be high voltage.
Doesn’t seem to be to many options.
Thanks

KillerG, this RC servo torque calculator will give you the servo torque required for each flight control surface on your aircraft. https://www.radiocontrolinfo.com/inf...ne-calculator/

For that size plane , I typically use about 80 + oz of torque. However it's also better to use the standard size servos for the bigger gears. Mini servo gears may not hold up, depending on how you fly especially coming out of a loop. Hitec 645 is a good servo to use and just mount it inside the fuse and use the Sullivan black sleeve push rods or 3/8 dowels. Forget about putting servos in the tail.

Well, the manual included must be old. Seagull has updated the design on the fuselage. There are pre cut servo holes in the center of the fuselage for standard size servos and they supply long control rods for it. I didn’t notice this in the beginning. There is still the option of tail mounted mini ones if you wanted to.
Retracts, it came with mechanical ones that I am not going to use. Was looking at some Robart ones and emailed they. Said they are limited for 95 degree ones, only a few models sold as sets. They told me it would be 10k and 6-9 months to retool to makes some of the 630 series into a 95 degree set. Even though on the website it says can be ordered in 95*.
Any other suggestions on retracts? Sierra doesn’t seem to have anything.
I suppose I could get the 90* ones and shim them a little to get 95*.

Sierra makes 1/5th scale Spitfire retracts, or at least they used to. Still listed on their web site.

#557RSE 100 deg Electric Nose Retract RoboStrut Ready – Robart Manufacturing
557RSESP (shopify.com)
100 degree rotating, if you look at the exploded view the nose gear setup is just a insert labeled items 10, 12 13, 14 which can be removed to allow a oleo to replace it. to achieve 95 degrees make the mounting rails to give the position you want deployed and the controller will stop the retracts on retraction when the amps spike.

Had some bad weather of late and no flying so in the down time I put together a vid of the mods and a recent flight of my CMP 120 Spitfire, we do this because we love Spitfires

Finishing up my Seagull 86”. Coming to balance it. With a DA50 and 3 3500mah lions in the nose I am still going to have to add 2lbs in the nose. So all up weight will be close to 23lbs with no fuel. Seems a bit heavy since Seagull says about 18lbs. I did add Robart electric gear, robostruts with their 4” aluminum hub wheels. With that gear setup it probably added about 1.5lbs over the stock mechanical gear setup.
So question, the fuel tank sits about 2-3” forward of the CG should I fill the tank to say 1/4 full and then balance it?
Thanks

I did new design of the Spitfire style Merlin exhaust pipe. Today I did first 3D prints of those pipes. In the pictures are 1/4, 1/5 and 1/6 scale. Another size will not be problem.

I load up an old OS FS-120 w/ pump and now tail is done, so nice spitfire, I'm very lucky to still be able to find it. I am carefully assembling it. In one of our model airplane enthusiasts' wechat groups, I learned that a friend had the plane in his possession but wanted to sell the whole thing after losing the cowling and canopy when he moved house. The other parts are complete, unassembled and in good storage condition. I decided to buy it.
Very cheap price, from the Liuzhou , south of China to Beijing, 1650 RMB totally .
intent to let him be a pilot

I have a Pica (I think) spit with pneumatic retracts installed. I think the air lines need replaced though. The engine mount mount is too big for a .46 It seems right for my .91. I don't have a .61 to check. The builder did a nice job. I've debated on whether to sell it or keep it and electric. I'm a believer in warbirds having sound and smoke, but this one could just be the go-to "easy" one, I think. It's covered in shrink film, which looks a little like canvas. If anyone is interested in buying it, let me know. I'm by Atlanta, GA. I'd probably ask $190 with local pickup and would drive an hour to meet someone. Haven't listed it on FB groups or forums yet. Figured my brothers could have first option I'm firm on the price because I really might just keep it. It's built well!
Also, I have other planes. I might be selling a .60-.90 sized zero, a Eurofighter RTF.
I am selling Royal Products kit built, fixed gear, Focke Wulf and she looks great, an electric Swizzle Stick. I'm considering selling a Ziroli P-61 Black Widow, which needs work but is a beautiful 9.5' bird. I've probably sold my Airfield Stuka. I also have combat planes with OS .25 FX's. Also have an MDS .18 and a new Norvell .061 Rev-Lite, Big Mig, with tank, muffler 5 x 3 prop, spare muffler in new packaging, new glow plug in new packaging, spring start, new glow igniter lead with Dean’s connector.
Would be pretty easy to modify the cowl
I think the air lines are old and cracked. Not sure how to replace them with minimal damage to the finish. Haven't thought hard about it.

How big are we talking ? There are....
Meister Scale, Meister Scale - Spitfire,
Clarke industries 1/4 scale spitfire.Clark Industries Kits
Phenix model ARF , PH171? SPITFIRE GP/EP Size 50-61cc Scale 1:4 ¾ ARF | Phoenixmodel.com | Phoenixmodel | Aircraft model Manufacturer
Carf models , https://carf-models.com/en/products/spitfire
Fokkerc, https://www.fokkerc.com/product/spit...el-wooden-kit/
Mick Reeves, https://www.mickreevesmodels.co.uk/~...its/p4spit.htm
Any of those will work. How good are you building skills ? If you just got in the hobby, well hope you have an old timer that could help you. The only one that is easy is the Phenix model because it`s an ARF. Every thing else you building skills need to be on point which you get after years of doing it. Every once in a while a new person picks up building very quick. However that`s the exception not the rule.

Tx 91zulu! I'm looking for a 50cc-100cc. When I got into the hobby as a kid, I built a few kits. I started a Top Flite Gold Ed. Spitfire around '03 and it's still on the board, lol. Too many planes & ARF's to maintain and build have kept me from actual building. I've been trying to pick-up a used one but they sell too quickly or are too far away. And you never really know what could be wrong with it. Those are reasons I'm thinking of buying a new ARF. What I've seen so far all use traditional livery, which almost everyone has, and I'd like something unique, for example, the blue recon version or the silver anniversary edition, but maybe do the half black/half white bottom. Being bigger, hopefully I wouldn't lose the recon version in the sky Since Claire Chennault's shark's mouth was based on the Royal Air Force No. 112 Squadron, fighting in North Africa, I think it would be cool to pay homage by adding a sharks mouth too! So it would be a fantasy livery. You've name a few I haven't looked into so I'll check them out.
