I just received my Phoenix 55cc Mustang ARF from Zigi hobby. The plane looks great and I can't hardly wait to get started on the assembly.

Best wishes and good safe flying.

Hello rcguy59, I paid approx. $95.00 for shipping but the actual shipping cost from Fedex was a little over $123.00. Zigi did not ask for additional funds to cover the higher shipping. Shipping costs are getting out of hand with all of the vendors. We need to go after the shipping companies and not the hobby dealers. Shipping will vary depending on your zip code. You can check the total costs including shipping on Zigi's web site before you complete an order. I am quite happy with their customer service and rapid shipping and will probably do business with them again in the future.

Best wishes and good safe flying.

Thanks. Yeah, shipping has gotten obscene. Big ARF's are the worst!

I just ordered a DLE 55RA rear exhaust two stroke engine to power my Phoenix 55cc Mustang. I will begin assembly shortly.

Best wishes and good safe flying.

I got one also from ZigiRC and have it about done except for plumbing the retracts. It's a lot of ARF for the money with the main and tail retracts, oleos, spinner, and cockpit/pilot included. Got a DLE55-RA in it and it fits with no cutouts at all except the plug tip. Went together well but I'm expecting it to be a challenge to get the fiddly gear doors to work. May need to go to servo door operation with a sequencer. I like the way the control surfaces are hinged.

It has very pronounced washout, so should be tip stall resistant. It's not true scale but looks pretty good, the only really noticeable off-scale bits are the odd-shaped main gear doors (which they had to do to get the wheel to pull the door shut without interfering) and oversized chin scoop.

I did have issues with the gear doors. I was so disappointed that I set aside the Mustang for several months. I am now working on installing micro servos and using a sequencer to operate the gear doors. I just could not get the mechanical gear door system to work on this model. Using micro servos and a sequencer seems to have some real possibility and so far, looks as though it will work. I will post pictures and other info as the work progresses.

Best wishes and good safe flying.

I got mine working well with the sequencer and individual servos for each door. With the mechanical arrangement, one would work reliably and the other would stick repeatedly no matter what I did. I had to put in some healthy servos, the wind loads on those big doors will overcome the torque of the smaller stuff.

After a lot of time spent and hassle, I gave up on the doors and removed the wing doors and made the tail wheel fixed. My spinner came with chips in the paint and when I started working on it to fit my Xoar 22x10 prop, some more chips appeared. The paint does not seem to have bonded to the plastic spinner well. So, I ordered a 4-1/2" anodized blue P-51 style spinner from Tru Turn. I am getting close to finishing the P-51, it should be done and ready for its maiden flights in about two weeks.

Best wishes and good safe flying.

The Tang is just about complete now. I set the control throws today and finished installing and checking the retract air system. I am waiting for the Tru Turn spinner to arrive before attempting the maiden flights. I still need to check the balance though but I will check and set the balance and do some test engine runs before or by next week. I have not had a chance to take any pictures as yet but they will be coming soon.

Best wishes and good safe flying.

I had my maiden flight today with the DLE 55 engine powered Phoenix Mustang. The plane performed very well with only minor trim adjustments.

Best wishes and good safe flying.

I flew my Phoenix big Mustang in our annual Warbird event this last Saturday. The plane was a big hit and won the first place for best WWII airplane.

Best wishes and good safe flying.

After looking at pictures posted by you guys who bought it I figure cheapest must be your motivation to get this plane. I know that all scale ARF models are standoff scale but this one needs to be viewed from more than 50 feet to not see the inaccurate outlines. They even got the flap-aileron hinge lines backwards and the horizontal stab is in the wrong place. I always complained about the scale inaccuracies of the TopFlite kit/ARF but they could be corrected. last year I bought the new 60cc H 9 Mustang and was pleased to find that its scale three view outlines are as close to scale as possible. I was interested in the Phoenix P 51 but after seeing it I am ordering another H 9 Mustang to convert to a B model with a glass finish and painted colors.
