I did the same thing to mine to make them stronger. I bought a piece of thin sheet alum 6" x 18" .025 and cut the doors out of that. Sturdy and you can shape it to the wheel well easy.

I can't remember how thick... I just took the old door to my hardware store and found a sheet that felt right to me
The smaller sheets you get in the hobby bins aren't wide enough so I had to find a larger sheet. I traced it and used tin snips and my Dremel to cut them out
Being that mine is electric after the first flight with the aluminum I could hear them rattle in flight which really bugged me.... I pulled them off and put down thin double sided tape and screwed them back down and now the rattle is gone.

forgive this question, but the ESC I have and had used with my power 160 10S setup has Deans battery connections. I am concerned that with 12S this is too much voltage. What do folks think? Also thinking of leaving the bullet connections from the 160 and making conversion cable to the rimfire 50CC connection. thoughts?

great questions on the Deans.... once I went to 12s I went to EC5's on everything. They are a 5.5 bullet and have held up very well on all my large planes some as high as 135 amps.
I also use a homemade anti spark but in my newer builds I'm using the Jeti anti spark for the final connection.... very nice to plug in with no spark and not damage your connectors

I am now doing the wings, retracts should be here on Thursday. I have done the extension of the covering, but I am not sure if I should do the red on the flaps. I noticed that Redman did not do it on his model. Did anyone do this?

Hi Guys, Ive seen a few references saying the Saito FG33R3 wont fit, this is not true, it fits perfect, no holes at all needed in the cowl except for cooling/exhaust, just invert the saito mounts on the radial and ad 14 mm stand offs and goes straight in. These are pics of mine, I have made a custom exhaust ring as I dont like the sound of the stock Saito flex pipes or the way they have a 90deg elbow on each pot, mine breathes through a gentle 3/8 bend, it now pulls a JXF 18x8 @7000 revs on the ground, 18x6 @7500. it also has far more bass in the exhaust note than those horrible flex pipes do, below is a link to an engine run up, the mic doesn't capture the sound perfectly, has much more bass, it sounds much like a strong V8

Thanks Michael, she sounds so much better in the flesh, whenever I start it it draws crowds of guys that stand there with their mouths open, it really is audible porn.

The FG 33R3 will fit without cowl mods, H9 say that a FG30 is suitable for this plane, they are 2.5 hp, the FG33R3
Is 2.9hp, even more with keleo exhaust as the have horrible 90deg elbows standard. Check reply 760ish for pics of mine with Saito FG33R3.

Cheers Blair

Hi all,

I am new comer to RCU. Usually a self presentation is welcome. I has a quick look to the forum but could not find appropriate section, So if you don't mind I'll do it here.

I strated flying models back in 1999. I started with a OS .46 LA on a trainer and stay with that for 2 years. I had to make a pause for several years due to lack of space in my various flats. In 2008 I could not wait a anymore, bought myself a glider and came back to this beautiful passion. I now fly various airplanes from foamies small jets or warbirds to a .51 multi and a 1.20 Corsair from ESM and enjoy it!

As you now have imagined I recently bought the Hangar 9 P47 and a DLE 35 RA to go in it. I went through part of this post and already sounds amazing and extremely valuable! Thanks for your contributions!

My question today relates to firewall and how on your planes you countered the natural torque effect induced by the engine? Does the firewall as already an angle to counter it? Is it necessary to give the engine some angle on this plane?

Best regards to all

Manu

The firewall is already properly angled.

Guys I just finished my build with the 40GX installed. I am also swinging a 4 bladed Beila 18x10 prop. During my run ups I was averaging 486 on my Tachometer with the 4 bladed option set. Does that seem right??? It seems low to me?? What should I normally expect from a 4 bladed prop on a 40CC engine?

Thanks

Hi Bob, no I meant 486 according what my hangar 9 mini tach was reading. The prop I am using is biela 18x10 prop which is recommend for that size engine. I had the tachometer set to 4 bladed but I am surprised of such a low reading. I am going over a buddy's house to see what his tach will read. Maybe mine is damaged

Something wrong there buddy, even way over proped it would still idle at 1100-1700 rpm, my 33cc saito radial will turn a 18x8 2 blade at 7000rpm, 40cc would at least muster 4000-5000 with your big 4 blade.

Here in Oz you can test a tacko buy taking it into a room lit with fluorescent lightning, it should show 3030 rpm on 2 blade.

We have a 50 htz supply, it may show different on 60htz as I believe you guys have.

If you are using the hangar 9 mini tach it drops the last digit so you're reading is actually 4860 rpm. If you want to test your tech here in the US set it on 2 blade and point it at a burning fluorescent bulb and it should read 360 on the mini tach and 3600 on a regular tach. I would suggest using the Biela 17x8 corsair 4 blade prop if you want to get higher rpm on that engine.

P.S. you can get the 17x8x4 corsair from Aircraft International. http://www.aircraftinternational.com

Here's a video of my p47 on its landing gear for the first time, on anything but a smartphone the sound is accurate, a desktop pc with subwoofer is spot on.

Looks and sounds great, I love your weathering. I am doing it EP and hope to have it on its wheels doing motor tests this weekend or early next week.
