RE: SHOW US YOUR BYRON PLANES
Here's my old (and since sold) Byron P-47 razorback. Too many good flights to count! Actually a little sorry I sold it, but it was getting worn out and would have eventually become unsafe.

RE: SHOW US YOUR BYRON PLANES
I got my razorback from Fred Menna (with whom many of us are familiar).
Where and when it started life is anyone's guess. Fred, I know, picked it up, fixed it up, painted it up, and passed it on... to me! I flew the crap out of it for about 3 years. Powered by a Sachs 4.2, old but really strong, and very fast with 23x12 prop as I recall, with Shindin Machine retracts installed.
Based on wear and tear when I got it, I'd say it had been built and flying since the early 90's. It was VERY tired and ready for the grave when I got done with it... Even so, I sold it to a local club member, who intended to restore and repaint it, but he dropped out of the scene. I have not seen or heard from that guy in 2 years, and I have no idea what ever became of the model.

RE: SHOW US YOUR BYRON PLANES
Hey Fred!
Yes, you did a great job with the details and paint. I am sad to learn that George has passed. I used to think of him every single time I flew that model. That was a great gesture on your part to paint the model in honor of George, his service and his patriotism.
I was not thrilled to let the model go, and especially not thrilled to learn that the new owner intended to repaint it, but it was literally becoming unsafe to fly and needed a complete overhaul.
Kind regards,
Noah

RE: SHOW US YOUR BYRON PLANES
Oh, man, Tony (and Fred)!
In addition to the Byron P-47, I also owned (and flew the crap out) of a 'Fred Menna' Yellow Aircraft Zero! So I, too, have owned two of his models. Fred is a GREAT guy, and a heck of a builder/detailer!

RE: SHOW US YOUR BYRON PLANES
Hi Byron Guys. Built my F86D with a Rossi 90 engine. I probably had one of the most successful Byron F-86s. I sheeted the wing with 1/16 balsa wood and then covered with Monokote. I made many other modifications to make it airworthy. I flew it at many Air Shows and eventually retired it and had it hanging in my Hobby Shop (Hobby Castle) for years and eventually sold it. I also flew the full size F-86D. Col. Chuck Winter

RE: SHOW US YOUR BYRON PLANES
OK Guys, here are some pics of one of the 9 Byron Corsairs I have owned through the years. These are excellent flying Warbirds and the Corsair is probably my favorite Warbird. Something about the gear and all the flaps hanging down during landings.
Thanks,
