Thanks tuskegge, I was worried about that. The 1.20 surpass is actually a really heavy engine about 34 ounces! Hopefully I won't have much trouble balancing, I am also going to use a 16oz tank.

Charlsep do you know what you are going to do for covering?  Have you choosen a trim scheme?

Anyone who has flown theirs; are they good fliers? do they have any  bad habits?

Have fun with your build, looking good so far!

I will be glassing it. I have never done glassing befor but want to try it, any insight you might have would be great. hint hint I have not decited on what i am going to paint it to look like

I think the engine fits well in he cowl looks like all i will have to cut out for is the muffler. for the muffler i am looking to put somekind of pits stile wrap around , but havent found one yet. the mount is just on therer for the pic I will be putting a better on on before the first start

glassing the unit you will like. get your old playing cards ready polyresin med glass. just don' be in a rush. I lightly tack the ends with ca. lay the glass over the part then pour on the resin using the playing card to smooth out the glass and remove the excess. let dry trim then the other side. sand with 220. The engine is looking good in its home. Jtec does good rap arounds.

as a alternative to glasscoat you could glass with water based polyurathane, it works well, low odor, and is really quick and easy its what i used for mine I don't glass models any other way now

Tom Pierce has a great tutorial on glassing and scale details in his Dauntless and FW190 build logs I recommend reading them just for the ideas alone he won best of show with his very first scale RCmodel http://tompierce.net/rcplanes/index.htm

before Tom got into RC he was a scale model builder he won a bunch of awards with his plastic models, I learned a ton from his building techniques and his scale detailing, I don't have the patience to do much of the stuff he does but I have cherry picked a bunch of the little stuff, glassing a model using water based polyurethane would have never crossed my mind until I read the Dauntless thread

a couple of examples of planes glassed this way got all my stencils for the emblems from www.getstencils.com they do a great job of making paint masks, I just sent them my sticker sheets and they made up the masks for me

I drew a tonne of inspiration from Tom Pierce, he truly is a master! My favorite was the simulated foot prints of the flight crew walking on the aircraft. Very cool.
I copied my panel line airbrushing technique from him. He also has a neat trick where he makes access doors out of flite metal or aluminum tape then paints them and finally chips them around the edges with a knife for a very convincing natural chipped paint effect.

Just finished shooting the clear coat. I used the nelson hobby water based clear that Tom Pierce used on his dauntless. It sprayed nice, a little too shiny though. I had to scuff the whole thing with steel wool.
You can see my pit crew in the photo too.

Hey guys, I have just about wrapped up my build. Final weight just over 10 pounds dry. Got some nice weather today so I got her out for some pics.
Almost ready to fly now...eeep!
After more than a year of building I pretty scared to fly her now.
