Default CY Models Giant P47 Thunderbolt

Hi folks, just wondering if anyone has one of these, or has seen one or has any feedback?

http://www.cymodel.com/Cn/pro_view.a...5&cid=6&scid=0

There seems very little about on it. I have just taken delivery of one and although there are a few niggles in terms of paintwork and u/c, I'm pretty pleased so far. The build seems good enough, nicely sheeted wings etc. The paintwork is too thin though, showing the white backing colour through the silver in lots of areas, but that is easily sorted since I plan on doing some paintwork anyhow. The bit that really gripes, as with most ARF is the u/c, too short, wrong position and too small a wheel etc. Looking at the design though, it could easily be sorted, which is what I always planned to do so no big issue really. It seems such a shame for the gear not to be in the right place from the start though. The full size P47 gear couldn't be position better, so why change it. Because they can I suppose!

Heres a couple of pics of mine, not too shabby for a large, very quick to put together warbird. I like our UK spec scheme more too.

Ian.

One last shot, its the same model as sold by Easytiger. Now I'm expecting a reply for definate from Valawyer, telling me how good it is and they are!! Are you there mate? I've put some bigger wheels and longer legs and it looks a whole bunch better, tailwheel needs attention though!!! Wingspan is 96" and I'm putting in a Zenoah 80, just fits in cowl with nothing sticking out. It'll get a full strip and repaint if it goes well.

Tail wheel sure needs some work
and a decent canopy and I think you will have a very nice looking model there Ian.

Keep it happening,

Brad

Wahooo, a response!! Only joking!!! The canopy aint sooooo bad as is, but if it gets redone I'll look around for a better one, perhaps the Meister or Ziroli might be an option. If it didn't have that nasty fin strake moulded in I'd love to bash it into a razorback, but aint going to chop it about way back there to remove it.

Cheers Brad,

Ian

That actually looks pretty "Jug like" Ian. With treatment similar to what you did with the Spitfire I'm sure it will be a head turner. Probably flies fantastic too, most Jugs do.

I have one of these P-47 models in the same paint scheme. It is a very good flying plane. I have a DA=85 and Robart retracts in my plane. I also cut out the tail wheel hatch on the bottom and installed a robart retract tail wheel. I also got 5 inch scale wheels from Robart. So far n o problems. Lands well even with no flaps deployed. I used my own hardware for better looks. The tail wheel install was easy and I made a simple linkage to open and close the wheel bay. I used a rollerball paint pen to draw on the panel lines and rub on nomenclature. This ARF uses the same landing gear and struts as the "Yellow Aircraft" P=47. Don't attempt to use the landing gear that comes with the plane.

I bought it from Texas RC planes.

Hi Rob,
Ah ha, yep I remember that night, yes lets just tag along with the pensioners at the museum they will never know!!!
Yes, I heard you got Aarons Stang ,she looks great, she will haul about with the 85

The T bolt is coming on, got a Ziroli canopy for her, looks so much better, not perfect but good enough, maybe a Miester would be better???
So the top hatch and canopy are sorted, the canopy is moved back 1 1/2 inch in the correct position, and the top hatch has been blended in, you would never no it was there now.

So yes more rivets!!!!! just need a set of Darrell's legs for her now,and some surgery on the bottom of the wing to get the retracts in the right position.
Power is a 3w 75 Vegas twin spark, but might go bigger, our German brothers are flying on the dl 110 boxers!!!!! of a shovel comes to mind

Rob you know me and ££.

Cheers Graham

Has anyone striped the covering off the wings and stabilizers to glass them? I plan on doing that to mine and wondered if there were any issues with doing that

Just wondering if anyone else has acquired the 96" P-47 since these last posts. A friend and fellow club member is trying to decide if he should push the button and order one. He's also thinking of the GT 80 for power...thanks...

Any updates from the CYM owners? I'm a long time pilot of TF warbirds but I'm ready to add a 85cc to the hangar. Thinking about the 94.5" P-47 with a radial. Still in the research mode before I pull the trigger. I appreciate your feedback.

I recently came in possession of one of these. I have not flown it yet. It has a Zenoah GT80 upfront. Would be interested to hear from CYM owners about things to watch out, tips, etc...
