Looking great mate!!
Are you going to run twin sync on it? Asymmetrical thrust on a PBY is a non event really but nice to have that sync'd sound
Thanks

Well I mounted the engines today and put some 12" props on just to look at what I have and you may be able to go w/ 11" but 10 1/2" will be safer question is will that be enough to fly this baby?
Have a look at the photos.
Next mounting the rails to the nacelles.

Alright I was up very early this morning and finished up mounting the rails to the nacelle this whole system came out so strong I'm very happy w/ it.
Then glued on the LE between the nacelles and started to look at the throttle linkage some more.
Now I'm taking a short break to have some coffee and a bite to eat then it's back to it after posting. check the progress photos.

Alright my first snag I started to look at the throttle linkage and realized the Pitts muffler was going to be in the way so I'll have to go flex cable or rebend my 2-56 rod.
ANYWAY... I bought this Pitts muffler 15-17 years ago but there are no markings on it what so ever does any one know who makes this or do they still exist at all?
have a look this one will work very well it's just the right shape and size.
It's SlimLine Pitts muffler for .46 OS does anybody have one they will sell?
THANKS,
Bruce

Well I was able to get one more of the slimline Pitts style mufflers from a guy that has been following the build and should have it soon.
I haven't been able to get much work done w/ the holiday but here's what I did get done, I had to cut into the nacelle ring for the throttle cable and the exhaust line.
I switched to a 2-56 flex cable and ball swivel to the throttle and put the pits muffler on so you guys can see it will exit on the right side of the cowling close to the scoop on the cowling and I'm still working out how to exit the exhaust.

Alright I'm back on it but moving very slow while I was on holiday I though about waterproofing the servos and did a search on the web and found a how too on you-tube here.www.youtube.com/watch
And thought I would show you guys me doing some as well these are HITEC HS-422 that I be using to raze and lower the floats I will also do all the others this way you can just use the servos you already have and not spend $40 extra per servo because there water proof.
The Mineral oil was $3.50 at the drug store and I had the RTV Silicone but it's $5 at any depot or car store.
It's a bit messy but if you work smart and clean w/ paper towels the right size screw drivers a small wooden stick to spread the silicone w/ it worth the savings.
And these are suppose to be water proof NOT water resistant
and you can do the receivers as well I'll post that when I get there.
So check it out and I'm sure there will be questions on this subject so bring them on I'll do my best to answer them.

Just another note about this WATER PROOFING it was brought to my attention that SUM SILICONE is acidic and can cause damage to the electrical parts after time, so if you noticed in the video the guy said he likes this BLUE RTV And on the tube it says SENSOR-SAFE BLUE RTV.
So I went to the AUTO parts store and got some of that BLUE SILICONE RTV.
The three servos I had already done will most likely be okay but to be safe I started w/ NEW SERVOS I'll Put those three in something else.

No more mixed drinks for Bruce Casey but back in the day I would have had to have done something like that as a gag to my friends.
Well it's been over 24 hrs and the water proof servo is still working just fine UNDER THE WATER.

RE: 8'WS PBY-5 Vintage Plans Robert Sweitzer
Alright I got back to some of the building today I finished hooking up the throttle servos I made servo trays out of 1/8" light ply and notched them between the ribs
behind the wing tube, they will each have there own hatch and there will still be a
central main hatch as well.
So now I'm ready to sheet the bottom of the center section and the top of the nacelles so I can add the front rings to the nacelles and then be able to make the foam plugs to make the cowlings.
I went to Lowes and got a 25lb. bag of plaster of paris I was tired of paying for the small cartons $7.65 about a qt. when the 25lb bag was $15 BIG difference in price.
Also my friend Bob sent me the other SlimLine Pitts muffler and w/ a little acetone sandpaper and brass wire wheel on my dremal she looks like new.
OH YEA BOB told me he bought the water proof servos from Hi Tec and the didn't
WORK there just water resistant and by the way just be for posting I ran the test again the servo is still under water and working I'm going to leave it there the entire time I build this plane and test it every other day or so and I'll tell you when it fails.

Well I kept working this evening and moved on to the skinning of the center section
of the wing / nacelles.
I started on the bottom middle between the nacelles then behind the nacelle
and then I was able to get 1/4 of one nacelle skinned I'm doing each of the 1/4 sections in two pieces soaking each in alcohol then scribing, sanding, slicing and bending them into there shapes and finely gluing into position w/ med. CA glue.
The photos tell it better than I can so have a look.

Alright I got one half of one nacelle it didn't come out as great as I would like but it' the first side good thing it's on the bottom I had to use a small bit of filler.
the first side aft end the skin concave in a bit so on the second side I added a rib
and will show you guys that on the next side.
There's two things to know about how I shape after there glued first is ONLY SAND THE HIGH SPOTS!
And what I use to do this with is my combo sq's rule w/out the 45 -90 on it I spray a thin strip of 120 gr. sand paper w/ 3M 77 or something like it and stick it very tight to it just like a file. This is how I shape almost everything you have a long reach and a lot of control and it fits most every where. I'll get a photo of it if there isn't one all ready. check the progress.

Alright I got an early jump on the bird this morning Because my friend is coming over
for the weekendand then there won't be much time for building.
I started to skin nacelle no.two bottom after finishing the wing sheeting, this time I tried to show step by step and all of the tools I use to do this.
I didn't have anybody ask me about the BLUE chalk or the lines, what i do w/ that is use it as a transfer it shows me roughly where to cut and then I sand the part to fit.
So you mark the edge and then take the wet piece and bend it to the shape the best you can make cuts and do it again until you have it where you think it looks good enough to glue. have a look at the progress.
Falcon I use Rustoulem high build primer.
Guys I'm sorry the RCU SERVER will not let me post photos.
I'LL try in a while but I wouldn't hold your breath.
If you wan't to see it now go here.

RE: 8'WS PBY-5 Vintage Plans Robert Sweitzer
I was able to get some done today I had to go backward just a bit because the sheeting that I pinned didn't stay tight to the LE.
I won't be using this method any more this is how Robert has it done on the plans,
the rest of the way the LE will be larger than the skinned surface and sanded down to match.
So to fix this I in lay a 1/4"strip of balsa at the glue seam and sand it to shape once again sorry no photos of this I just did it really fast so I could keep moving on.
But I did get the top side skinning started and the cut outs for the small micro servo hatches, and may stay up tonight and skin the top of the nacelles.
They have a lighter curve and are smaller in size should be easier.
check the progress photos.
here they still don't have this site fixed yet
