=======
Construction:

I've been busy this winter, NOT building planes but being the general contractor for my daughter's new dog grooming business. Doing business construction is a big difference from doing 'around your house' stuff. Lots of permits (and those aren't cheap), and a certified architect, plumbing, electrical, HVAC and sprinkler sub-contractors. We could do the metal studs and sheet rocking/mudding and painting: not a lot but it still saved a lot of $$ plus doing all the 'running' around and coordinating the sub contractors also saved $$.
Besides being the general contractor, I figure I'd give her, her inheritance money early: she might as well get the money now when it's useful versus waiting until I croak in 35 years (or so).
We're making it a 'family' operation as my son is also working there full time: Between the two of them, all 'bases' are covered of grooming versus finance, web site, etc.
Initially, it was just a 20'X70' area in a strip mall (see last picture). I finally got it all done and we think it turned out great (couldn't have got all that dry wall done without the help of my son and his friends: that 10' long sheet rock is heavy!). Metal studs are so much nicer to work with than wood ones: lighter and all of them are perfectly straight.

===============
Back to planes:
Well at least I started something: I began charging all my planes batteries, which will take awhile to do!
Been real cold here in Ohio for being Spring: last year I maiden one of my planes in March when it was 80 and no wind. Last year's summer was also extremely hot, so maybe with this year's cold March, the summer will be more normal: hopefully in the 80's!
I should be able to start back up on my Ziroli 118" B-25, pretty soon.
I had planned on getting the B-25 and Nieuport N-28 done last Winter. Hopefully, I can get the N28 done during the Spring/Summer so I can add the dawn patrol meets to my itinerary.

Charging over the winter:
Just a note of caution.
I thought I read where it's possible to loose data either/or in the receiver or transmitter if the battery is very low so I'm charging my batteries before turning on either the receiver or transmitter. Also, this may only apply to my JR/Spectrum equipment (all 2.4 and 'power safe' receivers). Also, this maybe completely false, but 'better safe than sorry'. I have other hobbies so this may not be even relevant to the RC hobby as it may have pertained to one of my other high tech hobbies: at my age, I'm sure some of my brain cells are dead (they say that's the second thing that goes on a man!).

Jerry,
Thanks, I just did the construction, the rest of the family made it look real nice with the painting.

=========
Lee,
Looks good.
I just added it my schedule.
From Ohio, it looks like I can just get to route 33 and then take that right to Elkhart.
=============
Dewinterizing!
Some planes were stored in the house but I had to store others in my detached shop. Too expensive to heat the shop over the winter so I used plastic to cover them and put light bulbs under the plastic to provide heat for the batteries. Bulbs are cheap but it still cost about an extra 40 bucks a month just for the bulbs.
Removing the plastic made it like Christmas morning: removing the wrapping and seeing them again after all winter!
Got all the batteries charged.

First time out:
Saturday, it was mid 50's, sunny and low winds so I took out the Ziroli P-47 and SBD and got 3 flights in. A good turn out at the field. Some new planes got maidened: a couple scratch built Vals, a Pica P-51 but the Ziroli F4U had some engine problems.

Sam, Thanks for taking the photo of my yellow-nose P-51, BEFORE I broke out the starbord side landing gear. In your photo she looks pretty good.
That Saturday was a really good "first day", this season, for the group to fly. It was a day to help make-up for the long winter.

Scaleonly4me,

I usually don't go to one day events that are more than 150 miles as I don't want to spend most of the day on the road. However, I grew up in Cleveland and wouldn't mind checking out my old 'stomping grounds'. It also depends on whether you'll have the field open the day before and, then, I'd come up the previous day (Friday), drop my trailer off in the morning, check out the sights and then stay at the field that night.

=======
Yo Jeff,
I'll be there Saturday. Looking forward to talking to you.

Well, we're not suposed to allow overnight camping, I'll see if we can bend that rule,, you'd be welcome to park your trailer in my drive,, safer than leaving it at the field un attended anyway. We've never had issues, but I wouldn't leave my planes down there.

Default RE: ROAD TRIPS 2013

The years before I was 10, we lived around East 150 street.
After that, we moved to the west side. For a few years we were on W. 50th street: they had allies behind the houses, lots of fruit trees hung over the allies and we figured anything in the alley was 'fair game' and free! The bulk of the time was in Brookpark. Back then the area wasn't very developed so we spent a lot of time riding our big fat tired Schwinn bikes, building tree houses, baseball, swimming in a quarry, catching critters in the fields and streams and ice skating/sledding in the winter.
I also did my control line flying during the 50's/60's. Hopkins airport had about 5 great paved circles for C/L flying. Yearly meets were held at Westgate mall's parking lot in Rocky River.
After collage and service I had a house in Fairview Park before getting transferred to my present home in Cincinnati in 1979 (and here is where I'll 'croak').

Not workin' for me!

In fact, this whole forum without pictures isn't workin' for me.

Chat rooms un-illustrated tend to lead to just exactly that: a lot of chat and no action.

Advertisers must be fleeing en-masse.

What are some good options?

Sam, you're plenty qualified for rcscalebuilders.com but most of us aren't.
