Hi Ralph
It's nice to hear from you. It's been a very long time - so long it dates us both!
I'm still working to catch up with the backlog on the cowl kit. There are some pictures of it on my website. Along with that, I'm still selling scale exhaust kits for most of the current Mustang kits from 1/6 scale to 1/3 scale.

Fabio, I mounted the choke and throttle servos high in the nose right behind the former that the wing dowels go into. That puts them above the fuel tank. I than just run a straight pushrod from the servos to the choke and throttle arms. I did move my tank back a little bit from the firewall. I actually made a longer tank platform than the ARF comes with. This allows room in front of the tank for the pushrods. I also used a Fuji water bottle (1 liter) instead of the supplied tank. I think you should be able to do it with the stock tank. The pictures should help you see where I mounted the choke and throttle servos. You can barely see them to the right of the picture.
I have flown my P-51 5 times. It is not finished yet but I wanted to see how it flies. My DLE-55 Rear Exhaust was set a little lean from the factory. I had to open it about 1/8 turn on the high needle. I have always broke in my engines in the air. On the 1st flight the engine died after about 4 mintues. I believe it was because of being to lean and not broke in yet. I than flew a 2nd flight and the engine ran fine although I didn't do much full throttle flying. On the 3rd thru 5th flight I opened the high needle 1/8 turn and changed the prop from a Zinger 22x10 to a Mejzlik 21x10 carbon fiber. The plane came alive with the 21x10. I could not see any signs of running hot. This was all before I opened the rear slot in the cowl a little larger.

Tony, Yes it has been a long time. I stopped flying about 25 years ago and started back in, along with my son Nick, about 6 years ago. Nick's 41 now. He was 1 when we moved from Seattle.
I'll probably be looking into getting a P-51 cowl for a 5 1/2" spinner next winter (if my P51 last till then). I can't stand how the Top Flite cowl looks on the ARF but I'll fly it the way it is this coming summer.
Glad to hear your still going in your business.

Your Welcome. The more I work with the P-51B conversion from the P-51D ARF the more I'm glad I decided to go with it.
A couple things about using the FG Specialities canopy. First, be sure to cut the sides as low as possible to allow pently of gluing area. I almost cut my to short. Second, my canopy's front lip curvature was not a perfect fit to my fuselage. I think the TF fuselage must vary a little from ARF to ARF. What I did was glued some pieces of 1/16 plywood on the inside of the fuselage in the area of the front lip. You can see them in the 1st picture. This strengthened the area where I had cut the groove for the canopy lip and allowed my to put a couple small screws in the canopy lip while gluing it down as can be seen in picture 2. The small screws held the canopy lip down while the epoxy cured. I only had to do this in that one area. I removed the screws later.
By the way, when gluing the canopy on get someone to help hold it down till the epoxy cures. It's to much for one person to hold down. Also use 30-minute epoxy. I used 5-minute epoxy and it was almost a disaster. Also scratch up the area of the canopy the epoxy contacts for better adhesion.

Tuskegee: did you see the new monument in Orlando? Dedication was on Vetrans day and Kermit flew his restored Red Tail over. They got over to Weeks Air museum last weekend. I couldn't make it.. Bad spill.. Broke ribs. = slow moving LOL
When they are out there... Anything signed would be appreciated. An Archer scale 51 will be nice.

Can I jump in and play ? I've got a p.o.s.Nitroplanes P-51 Marie, a T.F. 1/5 Mustang, which is under re-contruction after a dead stick landing in a bean field, and a T.F. P-51 60, which should be ready to go in a couple of weeks. I want to get the giant ready to go to Warbirds Over Delaware this year. Let me know what my number is.

Here are a couple of links to my high-speed low passes and my warbirpilots.com pilot. Speed may not be to scale!

Scale speed is not proportional - but some try to say that.

Can anyone direct me to a good four bladed prop for a TF GE P-51 kit number P-516 1/7th scale. The aircraft will be powered by a Saito FA-120 or a FA-125A either way I need prop diameters, and pitch. Can anyone help me with this?

What is the prop range for those motors? 14/6? When converting to a 3 or 4-blade prop, you must account for the drag of the extra blade. So, what I've heard for a 4-blade conversion is drop 2" on diameter and 1" on pitch. Some may say go 2" on both. The problem may lie in the fact that the blade will look too small and may not produce the desired thrust. My AW P-51 has a DA50. The 4-blade prop for the DA50 would be an 18 or 19". That's way too small and wouldn't produce the thrust neccesary to pull the plane. To make it look scale it would take a 24-26" 4 blade prop. That's DA85 power. I saw pics of an AW P-51 with the DA85 mod.
try this for prop selection: http://www.soloprops.com/prop_chart.php
Your thoughts?

For 4 blade prop I like the Biela carbon fiber. Solo is the ultimate but fork out $200. Troy Built Models is where I purchase mine. If you go to 25% of wingspan it will look good. Scale is abt 29% of wing span 29.7% to be exact. But it looks funny on a model. http://www.troybuiltmodels.com/categ...ropellers.html
A Ys 120 turns the 14*8 strong. I am running a 17.3×8 on a YS 1.70. The prop is 27% of wing and looks too big. Not proportioned 'looking' to the model. . So going to a 16*8. On a tablet but will try to post a pic.
The D model has a 39ft span and a 11'2" Hamilton prop. The B and C models had a smaller prop
Just what I found when researching this last year.
