szempruw, The prop I am using now is the upgraded Ramoser Varioprop, 25 series, 2 blade hub. I formerly used the 16D, four blade version, but as it is manufacturer rated at a maximum 4,900 rpm, and Mustangs will go as fast as the prop pitch will let them, nothing short of an rpm limiter on the ignition system will keep the rpm's under the 4900 limit. I tried over-pitching the blade to 20 inches in an effort to tame the rpm's, it doesn't work, I got very slow runway acceleration and slow climb out, unable to gain altitude until the gear retracted, then it would accelerate slowly up to around 90 mph, then start to accelerate to very high speeds, too fast to be practical. Touch and go landings were risky with the low power at low speeds, the prop is stalled below 90 mph. Another Pilot used the 16D 4 blade on his electric powered H9 D model Mustang, got away with the high rpms for a while, then lost a blade in flight and totaled the air frame.
I don't recommend the 'ELECTRIC ONLY' 16 D prop because of this rpm limitation. It would work on a high drag air frame such as a P-47 or Corsair with prop pitch set at 18, I have done that with a TF Razorback using a Spitfire blade profile that IS rated for higher rpms, the problem was the high drag air frame used battery power up quickly, 3.5 -4 minutes is all the flight time you get. I sold the Razorback and my H9 D model to concentrate on the J Bates design. I don't like to publish the brand names of parts that fail, and most models would never reach the speeds that these Mustangs can get to, I will say that it is a BLACK 22-12 two blade from a manufacturer in Europe with the word 'PRO' on the blades. I used these props successfully before the manufacturer went into receivership a few years ago, the new batch of 2 blades from AFTER they came out of receivership may not have the carbon reinforced plastic construction of the earlier props. All I can say is they look the same, looks don't mean anything. The failure was at the blade root, taking part of the hub with it. The throttle was less than 1/2, speed was about 100 mph, level flight when it failed. The prop was NEW and undamaged by prior usage, had around 3 flights when it failed. Shame, I have several spares I won't use now.
As you all know, the Trump plague is getting in the way of long trips to the flying field, I have life-long respiratory issues that mean I can't get exposed to it, I just lost a sister to his stupidity.
Ramoser's 25 series 2, 3, and 4 blade hubs are rated for gas and electric, performance is very close to the 22-12 at full throttle, and 1/2 or less is all you need for 80-90 mph scale appearing flight. I started using it with the pitch set at 16, then moved it to 18, where I like it better. I briefly got speed readings of up to 127 mph before the speed sensor's transmitter mounted receiver broke at the input plug, JR is out of business now, I don't know if the sensor problem can be fixed by the new distributors, JTEC is one of them.

New to me Mustang
I need some help from the experts. I recently traded for a P51. The guy said it was a Top Flite kit but Im not so sure. He claimed it was the 60 size kit (and gave me a 90 Como S engine) but the wingspan is 55". Looking online it looks like it should be 65". I will get some pictures uploaded soon. I need to find the lower cowl for it and Im waiting on him to get back to me with the right landing gear, the main gear he gave me doesnt fit. What companies made 55" P51s that had a plastic lower cowl?

Im looking for some help identifying this plane. I got it on trade and the guy that was building it told me it was a Top Flite kit. I have my doubts but hopefully someone with experience can shed some light on it. The wingspan is 55" (top flite is 65") and the overall length is 55". He gave me a .90 2 stroke and retracts , neither of which actually fit this plane. The retracts are too short to line up with the wheel wells and the actual mechanism is too big to fit in the cutout and the motor mounts are 1/2 inch off in every direction for the engine. I paid $50 for 6 broken planes and one that needed some minor work and traded them for this plane and a ready to fly aeronca champ with a running Magnum 4 stroke. If this thing makes it off the ground once I think Ill come out ahead.

Not a P-51 at all but rather a Martin Baker MB-5, which is MUCH cooler than any Mustang. Most likely either built from Dan Parsons plans or from the Model Merchant kit which was based on Parsons' plans.

Thanks
Thanks guys, I knew someone could ID it for me. Like I said I’ve only got about $20 invested in it so I’m not disappointed. Looks like I’ll have to fab up a lower cowl.
Terry if you know where I can get a copy of the plans or more info on C.G. and recommended engine size I’d appreciate it.

Only one I know of would be Bob Holman, other than that see if someone on facebook still has a copy of the plan. When I finished the plan I turned everything over to Bob. I do remember Dan told me that plane flew it's best at 33% wing chord CG. Other than that I don't have anything else to offer you, a lot of water under the bridge since then. Good luck.

1/5 scale Mustang cockpit
Since I finished the cockpit kit for P-47 I decided to make cockpit kit for also 1/5 scale P-51 Mustang. I did some 3D designs and already done some parts. Now the works go on.
There will be availble two types of gunsights and canopy crank handles.

P-51 D-5 Mustang nomenclature sheets are done and available!! High resolutions sheets are for asking, they will be send via email. Same as our P-47 nomeclature sheets also those are for free.
