Hey folks.. today I went to the AMA show @ the Ontario Convention Center... picked up a dozen assorted servo extensions, some switches, 20 yards of 3/4ounce fiberglass cloth, some WestSystems 105, and some glue (MXbon 105 is my favorite).
There were some nice planes on display... The swap shop area was replete with folks selling their old trainers and plenty of 1000 hour glow motors to be had...
I was sorta bummed that the convention hall was wall to wall multi-rotor... Very little plane-centric activity... every other booth was selling some sort of multirotor or multirotor paraphernalia. Desert Aircraft was there and I did get excited about their new 70cc boxer twin... I also saw that they had a 4 stroke 50cc from an European manufacturer but I forget the name...
I went specifically to buy a bunch of LiFE packs but none were to be had... I did find a 20,000Mah LIPO the size of a cinder block that would be great in a small foamie (I'm sure it wouldn't affect flight performance at all - lol)
apart from that I'm working on the baffling for the big Wulf... I'll have pics on here in a few minutes... I'm getting my gear ready for the ride out to AZ to see my OEAF friends... fly some warbirds!!! more to follow!

Frank; 2 Questions, Is that a Top Flite GS FW190, and what Engine would that be? I am still building my TF GS FW190, havn't started the Fuse, still have time to decide on an Engine, but want an engine that can be cowled in with minimal opening and hacking up the Cowl: have a short list of Engines: DLE 55, DLE 55RA, EME 70 Twin, DL 60, etc.
Thanks.
Thanks.
nope.. my TF GS FW190 has the DLE55RA in it.. I'm saving up my pennies for the EME70 twin (very excited about that motor for my next TF FW190). I will be stripping the new one and glassing it... hangar rash is a reality for me in my man-cave, plus I'm pretty rough on my birds... Interestingly enough... I do have a DLE111 boxer on the shelf and it would fit the cowl on the TF FW190 with no mods save the exhaust holes that have to be cut... but that's way too much motor I think (DLE55RA 3.5lbs - DLE111 5.5lbs).
The Wulf I'm working on now is a Meister Platinum FW190-A8... I have a DLE120 in there (same size as the DLE111 that was in it). The baffling is complete and temporarily affixed to the cowl...
The size of the cylinder on that Gaui 4stroke 55cc from DA is pretty tall and would stick out of the cowl in a big way...

Hey Frank, thanks for the reply back; I'm leaning towards the EME 70 Twin with the Electric Start for my FW190, if it fits without butchering the Cowl; havn't seen any pictures or replys on this thread or the TF FW190 thread that it fits without butchering the cowl.

Hey Das...
I've been doing a lot of research on the "baffling" of 2stroke gas motors... It's amazing the change in engine performance when cooling is done correctly... on our TF GS FW190 the stock faux fan blade mounted on the inside of the cowl desperately needs to be modified to pass air directly over the cylinder head. It doesn't have to be a big gaping inlet... The idea is to have cool air enter and move over the cylinder(s) and have 2 to 3 times the exit (inlet vs exhaust ratio).
The pros over at RCSB build structure over the entire cylinder while being careful to not agitate the airflow (smooth curves, no sharp edges, etc)... The effect of having cool air right over the cylinders improves engine performance and longevity...
I've just finished the one for the Meister Wulf and I'll have pics up shortly... let me know what you think...

Hi to everyone, I am interested in becoming a member of the Brotherhood, so how do I go about becoming a member? Do I need to post pics first, or just ask? Thanks in the meantime.

Nice FW190! Wow a Club trailer even ! One high class mammer jammer club. Sure am glad to be a member of such a fine group of Dudes. Ethan and I went to the AMA show today not very crowed, kind of nice for a change. Got a 20cc engine for the P-51 I'm going to put together some day. For now it's going in a Ultimate Pitts for break in. Was going for a 120 4 stroke. But I'm going to use gas in this war bird. Hey hope you guys here in SoCal stayed dry. It was a wet today. Take care.

But just in case I just picked up a At-6.Oh wait I for got about a P-47, and a Pt-19 and a P51.I'v never been in the service but it seems all my planes are warplanes. Can't wait till spring and all the warbird shows.

I had a surprise from my 9yr old daughter who came downstairs the other day and presented me with an invite for a Father-Daughter dance at her school this Friday night... So, instead of leaving for AZ on Thursday.. .I will be driving out Friday night, fly Saturday, some on Sunday and make my way home...
sorry I'm gonna miss you guys on Friday...

Well I'd like to say that here in Southern California, we fly all year long. But we did have rain this weekend, so NO flying. But we did have the AMA show to keep us busy this weekend. But sunny skies are back! Today it's going to be a high of about 70 and a nice weekend to come. Sorry guys, keep building. And stay warm.

Hello brethren (and sister)...
Had a great weekend in Arizona @ the Sun Valley Fliers Winter Warbird event... 3 days of fantastic weather and a lot of great flyin... If you didn't see the facebook posts, I killed my Meister FW190 on the takeoff roll... I was trying to build up speed with the elevator in full down deflection to get the tail off the deck.. the plane lifted off the deck with the tail wheel still touching the ground... vicious tip stall and speared the deck inverted... broke the front of the plane off the fuse, crushed the cowl and firewall, broke both wings, ripped a horizontal stab off, and crushed the canopy... I don't know if it's fixable... a lot of damage that would add a lot of weight to a 60lbs airplane. I'll try and get some pics up soon... and details on what I decide to do.
The captured Jug flew great all weekend.. there was some weird RF noise that made the surfaces jiggle on Friday but a new spark plug fixed the issue just right. great flights and some great landings...
more to follow soon...

I would like to thank all the Brotherhood that made it out to fly with us last weekend. With out all you pilots the show is nothing.
Frank, I felt bad about the FW. It was a beauty and I hope it can be again.
btw, the idler gear screw on my starter was loose, chipped a tooth on the spur gear. Easy fix. I may put lights on the FW so I can see plane for those late flights.

Might as well sign me up! lol. I have a Flyzone (I know it's foam lol) that has quite a bit of epoxy and foam ca in it. I am currently building the TF GE .60 Corsair. Hoping to have it done by spring. That is the next victim! I also have an e-Flite 280 P-51 because the club I belong to is 23 mile away. I wanted to be able to go to an empty field and fly something safely. It does rip pretty good! My 6 year old loves warbirds! I have a couple other balsa glow planes, but they are not warbirds.

Frank,
Sorry to hear about the Meister FW190. Was that your first flight on that bird? By the way, I guess it's time for me to sign up for the brotherhood. I still have a couple of war birds that have not crashed and burned (yet) --TF Giant P47, ASM 1.20 Corsair, and a couple of AT 6's that I don't fly, so I guess l qualify.
