Set it up to run at speed and check it with a strobotach set to the rpm. The stop action might show just where the imbalance is. It may be a dynamic imbalence not reducible with weights set statically. Or it might be that the spinner does not track right; the securing screw may be wobbling at the pointy end of the spinner. Or, try another spinner. Good luck.
Merry Christmas to All and to All a Good Flight.

Sincerely, Richard

Gents,

Had a great weekend flying the Wulf (TS GS FW190 - DLE55RA w starter)... Flew with Shaun Roblee on Saturday @ PVMAC and we had a blast flying formation and even had a awesome tandem landing (his corsair on the inside greased and my Wulf in the outside lane - very awesome)

Today we flew @ BlackStar and had 6 awesome formation flights... There was one mid field break where we were within 10 feet of each other through the entire pass... Simply the best feeling imaginable... what a great day.. love my Wulf!!!

My spinner is a Platt me109 spinner. The back plate balanced right up and works great. But the spinner cone is cantilevered off the end of the balancing rod and I can see the spring move as I rotate it. I picked up a M6 x 3.5in, interesting a 3.5inch long M6 screw, at lowes I’ll try soon. The plan is to use prop shims to make the spinner fit the M6 snuggly then nuts on both ends to hold it in place. Then see what we get during the time off.

Merry Christmas
Joe

Brethren,

I want to wish you a Merry Holiday and all the happiness you can suffer in the new year! May all your airframes stay in the same number of components, your engines start on the first flip, and landings come with extra grease!

Took the Wulf to PVMAC (Chino Hills) this morning (early) and met Shaun Roblee there... It was 10 to 15 down the runway and a little worrisome. First flight was clean.. Second flight was clean... Third flight I nosed over the landing and broke a prop and jacked up the wheel pants.. 4 flight dead stick'd after 5 laps but it landed ok...

hard to fly formation with Shaun's Corsair when it's windy... elevation changes with the gusts... All in all a great flyin day! More tomorrow and Sunday!!! YAY!!!!!

yeah, bro... I'm looking forward to it!!! I'm coming out there with the TF Wulf and captured Jug again AND maybe, possibly, the Meister Wulf. Shaun Roblee, one o my bro's out here is bringing at least one Corsair and Tim Cardin may be bringing his pride and joy, the Bamboo Bomber...

I should be working on another Corsair for Shaun but I gots no motivation... me be slackin!

Whoever or whatever put the "good vibes" whammy on me last week worked... I got a call back from Darrell at Sierra the day he received the bent retract for the Meister... he repaired it (replaced everything except the air cylinder) and shipped it out.. that was a great Christmas gift!!!

What are you gonna be flying? PigPen?

Frank update!!!!

You guys probably know I assembled and bash'd a couple TF GS Corsairs for a bro of mine here in SoCal (Shaun Roblee). One was in Quantico gray, black gun hood, and white feathers. The other was all black with red markings (courtesy of Callie Grapics). Both are powered by DLE55RA's with Bowman rings and spin a 20X15 T6 prop... Very fast.. He also wants me to build a third but this time he wants it peeled, glassed, and painted british camo.. more on that later...

Well.. one of the old guys at the PVMAC flightline asked if I could help fix the covering on a GeeBee (GreatPlanes) so I agreed and its been sitting in my garage for a month (guilt is a powerful motivator). Today I pulled it out and started tightening the covering with a heat gun and kept on going and assembled the wing and put the mains on... now I'm working on the fuse...

I gotta start working on my stuff, man! This afternoon the right main for the Meister Wulf came back from Darrel @ Sierra Giant.. it's essentially a replacement so I've got to figure out what paint they used so I can match the other gear... I've already mounted the new DLE120 in the nose of that beast.. my repairs on the wing sheeting look like **** but it's the plane I'll be bringing to Top Gun in April... Gotta make it look good.

update complete.. there.. read it and be merry!

ok.. I'm burning out on repairs...

>after 200+ flights and at least triple that in hitting the switch on radio, the starter motor on my DLE55RA finally took a dump today... It's burned up... no more torque...
>while flying at "ridiculous speed" today some of the MonoKote came off Shaun Roblee's Quantico Corsair inboard wing panel... I gotta meet someone and sit with them and pay them to "learn" me how to handle complex & convex curves with an iron.. it's got a patch MonoKote and been repainted to match - also did some touch ups on the hangar rash
>A few flights later on a high speed pass the tail feathers on his other Corsair, the all black "Nightmare", had bad flutter.. he landed it and the horizontal stab separated again from the fuse... I've given up on 5 minute epoxy and used T88 and some WestSystems 410 microballons... It only added 8.5lbs to the tail which should make for some fun flyin tomorrow... haha.. I won't tell him! If that fails I'm giving up on that repair and just fill the fail section with expanding epoxy (Gorilla glue) and use 5 or 6 1/4-20 bolts back there. Make it as heavy as Cole's big Corsair still sitting here in the rafters (anyone have one of those giant construction cranes so I can move it around?)

well.. that's it for today.. flying tomorrow at BlackStar... The Captured Jug flew well today so I may be flying that one tomorrow.

Hey, at least your flying! Up here in the "frozen tundra" Of Wisconsin the flying season ( except for intrepid electric flyers) is over until maybe Mid March if we are lucky or. Mid April. I understand you might be burned out on repairs, but you are still flying to create the repairs!

No sympathy here, sorry...........................

Did you just try to make me feel bad that I live in sunny Southern California? It was like 30degrees @ 6:30AM this morning but clear blue skies and 70degrees by 11AM... I had to wear a jacket today... can you believe it... I only got to fly 6 flights today.. so tomorrow I will have to get at least a dozen to make up for the chill today... LOL!

to give you an idea what it's like.. New Years eve I drove the kidz and my wife up to Santa Barbara with my little travel trailer (only 35ft with slideouts) and we stopped in the foothills for a little sledding in the weird snow we had at 2000ft (OMG!)... then we had lunch on the pier in downtown Santa Barbara (steamed crab - yum!), ran around in the surf for an hour then went back to the campsite where we chilled out in the chilly 72degree weather... I actually had to put the heater on new years eve... got back day yesterday... I'm telling you.. cold weather here sucks!

BTW... someone explains the mechanics for me... when it's cold I have to fatten up the top end on my DLE's... Shouldn't I have to lean it out since the air is denser when it's cold?

More dense air = more oxygen, means you need more fuel to go with it, or you will be lean.

PS. I'd like number 67 in The Not So Scale, Almost Ready To Fly, Soon To Be Scrap, Warbird Brotherhood. If you'll accept me. At the moment I only have a GWS Corsair, definitely not scale.

Thanks,
Robert

Thanks much Pres. Already added the brotherhood to my signature. In my case, I would put "warbird" in quotes.
