I looked at this Mustang at Toledo and placed my order. The scale lines are better than any Mustang ARF of it's size. Yes it's another Mustang but they sell in high volumes and modellers love them. It's business. Case-in-point. I make fiberglass cowlings for both the Brewster Buffalo and the TF P-51 Mustang. In 10 years I have sold 4 Buffalo cowlings and over 101 TF Mustang cowlings. Companies like Horizon have to stay in business to be able to offer anything at all. For me I will kit bash this into something different to make it special. For starters I am going to see if the "B" model Razorback conversion kit I made for the TF can be adapted to fit. It is worth a try. Leo

Anybody hear of the weight on this plane? I didn't see it posted on the H9 or Horizon website. The 60CC Corsair was coming in @ 31 to 32 LBS. With 2 to 4 lbs. of weight in the nose. Maybe Horizon will weigh in. They've been silent on this and the Spitfire thread.

The P-51 uses G-10 (Fiberglass)hinges with a piano wire passing thru each hinge to secure the control surface which allows for easy removal of all surfaces for repair. The spinner is already pre cut for a 2 -blade propeller and is included with the model.
We expect to begin shipping to dealers in mid June so get yours on backorder as we expect this model to be quite popular and the 1st shipment will likely sell out quickly considering the popularity of the model at the Toldeo Show this month.
The retracts and the aluminum P-51 wheels will be in stock for the release of the Mustang as well. I would strongly recommend you consider the Evolution 62GXi fuel injected engine that this model is designed to use for power as it is the perfect combination.

I bought a couple of B model razorback conversions and cowls from you a couple of years ago and would be very interested to see if it will work out.
The quality of your fiberglass parts is excellent to say the least.
I too placed my pre order at the LHS since it looks like a good starting point.

Hi All,
I have been looking at this P51 and thinking how good it looks. It seems to have many things going for it. Hanger 9 have done a great job. Then I saw the photo of the Tailplane and elevators.
Why didn't they make them with a proper airfoil shape.?" Plank " tail feathers went out about 15 years ago for scale models didn't they ? On such a great model, why spoil the overall looks with such a simple mistake ?
I suppose some buyers might opt to replace these parts with reconstructed items of their own.
I hate to be negative but I couldn't help but comment on this aspect of an otherwise great looking model.

ohhh,,its pretty... I'm sure it will fly great... Many years ago when I got my first Hanger-9, and loved it.. I said to friends, If hanger-9 ever made A beaver, or a p-38, id own it!!! well,,, I spent the money on the beaver before it was released!! And would do the same if the 38 came out!!!

Agreed, why would I dump $900 for a plane that is missing the mark on a detail such as this? Why not a B or C model? The D and later versions have been way over done. A giant Hellcat would be nice or a Wildcat, or Bearcat.

I'm very surprised you would just assume we butchered the tail section with 'plank' surfaces. You'll find that it's an attribute of the photograph, which is also why the stab appears almost constant chord. The entire tail section is properly airfoiled.

The tail surfaces are not slabs. They are airfoils and have a nice taper to them. It must just be something funky with my camera angle and the reflections off the glossy covering. Notice from this top view the smaller cord seen at the tips of the tail and you don't really see that in my side photo, nor do you see the thickness of the stab decrease from root to tip but it does. So I must admit my photo is creating an illusion, because the stab and tail surfaces look good when viewed at the Toledo show. Leo Spychalla

Thank you Spychalla and CRG for your explanations regarding the Tailfeathers. That is indeed a misleading photo. The tail tip appears parallel sided especially when compared to a full size photo. But I do understand how some cameras can tend to distort images.
