Mine looks like that with cracks in the skin on each side. Look at the box and see if there is a mark from the tail pushing against the box when they stand it up on end. The whole plane with all the parts hanging on the foam bulkheads are all pushing on the tail and the pressure flexes the vertical and cracks the glue joint.

Picked this up to do an engine swap out for mine. Going from a DLE85 to a Roto Motor 85cc inline twin 4 stroke.

I installed 2 elevator servos in the fuse and ran 4/40 push rods to each elevator.

Tim,

The Roto Motor 85 should be WAY less of a thumper than the DLE85, but at the sacrifice of some overall power. Should sound a lot better too.

I have the Torque Pro 70 in mine, but have yet to fire it up and fly due to either high winds, rain, or both. I'm betting the 4-stroke 70cc engine will be a shaker as well. I just hope it runs good and strong without any flame outs. Dead stick landings are not on my agenda for practicing with the new mustang.

Sonny

Good luck with the firewall modification!

Hi John,

Maybe this coming weekend I'll maiden the mustang if the gale force winds we've been experiencing die down a bit. Why is it that the winds are most perfect during the week days, then on the weekends it blows like crazy. Not fair!

Sonny,

I'm in Frisco. Where do you fly? I'll be driving out that way some time Saturday. Would love to see your bird.

Nick,

I fly at the Greater Southwest Aero Modelers field in Ft worth. Link to website w/address: http://www.flygsw.org.

We are currently developing a racing quad track for our multi-rotor pilots, which has been taking most all of my extra time lately. If you come out be sure and look me up.

Bring out a plane and come fly with us. On a pretty day we usually have several warbirds in attendance.

Sonny, I have to be in Granbury tomorrow afternoon. Depending on what time I leave here, I might stop by your field to say hi.

Thanks,
Nick

Well, I finally flew mine today with less then stellar results. While I can say the plane flys well, I'm not too happy with a couple things. First, DO NOT use the pull pull cable that comes with the plane. My rudder cable snapped and I was lucky to get the plane back with the crosswinds we had. Second, my hatch blew off. The latch came unglued from the hatch. Everything except the green hatch itself was destroyed. Canopies, cockpit, cockpit frame. I'm keeping my fingers crossed a replacement will make it in time for Joe Nall. Btw, when that comes off, the fuse acts like a big air scoop and landing is very difficult. Took me three times to get it on the ground.

I am am not a very happy camper right now.

Thats not too Bad. Mine canopy came off in flight and was WAY WORSE. I put 8 magnets in the canopy/fuse so that would never happen again. Two sets up front nd two sets in rear. Will not come off even if the latch fails.

Your actually right and I could easily fix it (minus the crack in the canopy itself you can see), But I am getting really sick and tired of paying $1000 and up for an airplane and it not at least being able to hold together in flight.

I contacted Henry He of Toprc via Facebook and have a new cockpit set and canopy parts on the way. He was very sorry to hear of this and will look into the issue. That is top notch customer service, thank you.

Default Using a scale 26.5" prop

Why don't you use a PSRU propeller speed reduction unit. This will allow you to use a 60cc and above engine fully incased in the cowl with no cutouts or at least minimum. Check out this fellow 534JGM on YouTube. This will allow you to use a fully tuned engine with maximum RPM with the propeller shaft only rotating at around 5200 RPM'S or less which is well with in the spec's for solo prop or any other 4 blade manufacturer. I believe his drive reduction ratio is around 31% of engine RPM. It won't hurt to check out his PSRU Drives.

I had issue with the stock pull pull cables breaking while building mine. I used Dubro cables. I will look into the canopy latch before I make my first flight. I have 4 flights on my Spitfire no issue with the hatch.

Any body having trouble getting replacement parts. I have called several times and sent an email. talked to Justin twice. Tower Hobbies said if the had the parts they would send them. I need a new wing and hatch with canopy.
