Default Problem With Retracts

Hi Everyone,

I have a .61 size TF-P47 with 85 degree e-flite retracts. They worked great for a while but not I have a persistent problem. The right retract doesn't function properly. It either doesn't go down or up all the way. When it does retract it hits the side of the wheel well and doesn't fit properly into place. I need to move the wheel laterally in order to get it to fit. The problem is their isn't any play at the base of the retracts unit to move it laterally. This is very confusing to me since the left side works fine. Here is a photo and video of what I am trying to explain. Any help is appreciated.

Any help is appreciated.

If the wheel is contacting the side of the wheel well preventing it from retracting all the way you can either move the wheel well over, a lot of work but solves the problem; or try a smaller size of wheel.

That photo shows that the retract is not secured at all at the base. It could be that you have intentionally loosened the screws to see what was going on but then the wheel being offset is artificial. You need to tightened back up those screws and then retake the photo.

the Electronics have an Override that stops the Motor if there is a binding of any type, this is to keep the Motor from draining the Battery if there is a hang up,, so if the loose screws are not the problem I would remove the Retract and take it apart to see if there is binding somewhere in the mechanics,, also note that if the Housing mounts too tight between the Wood Mounts the Mechanics could be rubbing on the Wood creating a binding

also note that you could have a Burred Thread on the Drive Screw

Personally I would lose the plastic wheel wells. What rocket scientist thought it would be a good idea to have them be such a close fit in the first place? I never use them in any of my planes. Get rid of them and make the wheel wells larger. If you have to close of the wing inside the wheel well, it is easy to do using end grain balsa sheet.

Hi everyone,

thanks for all of the replies. I dremmeled out some of the wheel well added some wood spacers underneath the rails of the electric retracts and a wood spacer where the struts runs down the wheel well to get the correct lateral gap. It was a lot more work than it should have been and involved some trial and error but ultimately I got the desired result. I agree with Steve, if I have anymore problems I will do away with the plastics wells and upsize the wheels.
