This morning I confirmed that mine pitched down when flaps were deployed. My mix is +2% on a Futaba 12FG, meaning that when flaps are deployed, the elevators move up slightly. I also used the spool in feature so that the elevators do not simply pop up, but instead slowly move up. This prevents any visible change in pitch while the plane is flying.

If yours reacts the same way as mine, it is nothing to be concerned about. You'll be able to add a few clicks of up elevator to compensate for the pitch change. Also note that this will change if you add or remove ballast from the front of the plane. I think I started with around 12 ounces of lead in front and ended up with approximately 24 ounces (1.5 lbs). The plane flew fine with 12 ounces, but for me flies better with a little more weight because it penetrates and turns better.

When is your maiden?

I already had 2 flights with it, but have not tried flaps. Tomorrow, I'm going to try the flaps. Thanks for the information.

I've just finished assembling mine.
I'm going electric on this one, Rotomax 50cc and 12S 8000 battery and a separate rx 2500 life.
I have a Ghecko 150a esc with no bec.

With the big batteries I still had to add about 8 oz to balance slightly nose down. which I can add or remove after the first few flights.

On the bathroom scales it comes out at 25 1/2 lbs.

I'll have to wait until winter is over before the first flight(s)

Dave.

To have scale landing gear angles a Spitfire needs 95 degree retracts.

Just to clarify Pedro, I have not built the Phoenix ARF Spitfire specifically. If the airplane has the scale amount of dihedral then it will require 95 degree retracts or else the landing gear will be "splayed out" in a manner similar to a BF-109. Despite what many people think that is not correct for a Spitfire. The landing gear legs should be perpendicular to the ground when the gear is extended.

Hello and thanks for your comment.
So alone I thought about taking advantage of a retractable landing gear that I have with that angle of rotation and I thought maybe in this model I could

Starting to get mine pulled together.
Going to try electric.
I will be going with a Rimfire 65cc with a Phoenix Edge 160HV.
I am looking at using 2-6s 5000's but seems to be enough room to add 2 more in parallel if flight times are really low.
ECalc is indicating only 3.9min flight times with the 2-5000's - not entirely sure I am using it correctly.
I have 26x12 props to start with.
First time for anything like this so not sure what to expect.
Open to suggestions and or guidance.
Thanks

Default Phoenix 95" spitfire

Has anyone have a wing balance problem with their spit ? I had to add almost 3/4 left trim to get it to fly straight , I have checked the fit of the wings to the fuse. and they are fine , I'm wondering if i need some weight on the right wing . Anyone else with same problem ???

One of my wing is heavier than the other but I have serious ailerons trim on that side to push it down more. so I just left it. if I fix the lateral balance, I would need more trim. It is flying fine the way it is. You need to beef up the landing gear rails. all 4 rails broke on mine.

Mine needed a lot of aileron trim. I did add some weight to lateral balance, but it didn't help the problem at all.

There has to be some reason ..How much weight did you add ? Also how far out near the wing tip . When I balance the wing it doesn't seem to go one way or another . With all the trim id did fly straight , but I'm afraid to try and execute a left roll , I don't know if there is enough aileron left to do it . Driving me crazy , Unless the wing saddle is off , one side higher then the other . Thanks Bob

Mine is new in box unbuilt. Impulse buy but it’s got the electric retracts. Got it delivered about 3-4 months ago. Way before the virus crap. Sitting in an air conditioned garage awaiting build in maybe 2-5 years not in any hurry whatsoever. Also have a beautiful T-1 Jet just sitting also. Those have gone up in value since nobody can get them to the states.

if you have an accurate scale could you weigh your wing panels and see if they are the same ?. I cannot weigh them on by bathroom scale . If anyone can , please let me know . I'm curious if this is the problem . Thanks Bob

Have you had any experience with an aileron trim .. Mine needed 3/4 left trim to fly level I have checked everything I could think of but have come up with nothing . The only thing left i can try is to add weight to the let wing . Any help would be appreciated . I don't have a scale that i could weigh each panel separably . I checked to make sure both panels were flush against the fuse and I don't see any warps and they are the same length . Bob

I finally got to maiden my Spit today.
I'm running a Rotomax 50cc, 150A esc, 12S 8000 pack.
Plane weighs 28lbs give or take...

Using a Falcon 23-10E ..these are static readings...6300 rpm, 103Amps, 4250 watts, 26 lbs of thrust.

Plane flew great!, Very happy with it, not blisteringly fast, put certainly a good scale speed and good vertical. I flew it for 5 minutes and the batteries were still 3.8+ Volts. Will go with 6 mins next time. Mixed thr. settings, mostly 1/2-3/4 throttle.

I'm using the stock air retracts, no issues with them.

Basically no trim change with flaps and slows down nicely for landing.

Get it too slow and it will drop a wing. I have quite a bit of left ail trim, so will have to investigate that.

Overall very happy with the plane and my choice of power

No videos, sorry

Have the radio installed and ready to move onto the motor install.
As I set the elevators up I aligned the forward tip pieces with the stabilizer. All fat and happy.
Then as I when to adjust the throws I see that the trailing edges of the elevators are not lining up.
Bummer!
I wonder if I got two right side or left side elevators?
I guess I will line up the trailing edges and split the difference on the front to start with?
Has anyone else run into this?

I have had a problem with the with the left wing dropping , i cannot find or see any warps in the wing and I have a tight fit to the fuse. on both sides . Now I have added a weight to the left wing , but I have not flown it with the weight . First and second flight the plane really dropped the right wing and it took almost 3/4 left trim to get it flying straight ..

Hi, one way to check the straightness of the wing is to assemble the plane and put it upside down in a cradle on the ground or on top of a table, so that the bottom of the plane is up. Then check the wing from all angles, especially from the rear. You might see something that was hard to see with the plane right side up on the ground. Are the ailerons flat without any twist in them?
