I was getting the Ghost ready for its maiden flight and heard a rattling. Then looked down and one of the inner gear door hinges came off. Could of been a really problem!!! Not sure if all kits are like this, but I mentioned it before and finally solved it. CARF only used about a 1.5" pin for each side of the door. When the plane moved around, one of the pins actually slid all the way into the door itself. I just drilled a hole on the outside of the wing and slid a full length 4mm brass tube in. Now the door has a full length pin instead of just two small pins on either side that can, and will, slide around .If you have a kit with just the pins, I strongly suggest making this mod!!!! Now I just place a piece of scotch tape over the hole and all good. Also, real easy to remove pin if need be.

YES!! I final got to maiden the Ghost today. unfortunately no video but a few pics. I'll get a video next time, we don't really have a good video person and the one person I know had to work.. All I can saw is WOW. It ran really good and is super fast. Not even sure I really needed take-off flaps. just a couple "clicks" of aileron trim and it was good. I initially needed a few clicks for down elevator but realized I was so nervous I left the takeoff flaps in for a few laps. And I thought that was fast. just a really smooth Giant Scale with that beautiful sound. Landing was very similar to my 1:4 scale bearcat. With full flaps and gear down I came back in with a little less then half throttle. Left that in until I was rolling out on final and slowly reduced throttle leaving about 1/4 in until just before landing. Had the CG at about 7" and I think I'll leave it there for a few flights. but seemed to be good. But then again, only a few flights and need to get a little more comfortable with the air frame. 6 minutes flights and only went full throttle on take off, otherwise I just ran a max of 3/4 and plenty to power to deal with my nerves. with that said, on 6 minute flights I only burned about 1/4 to 1/3 tank. I'm sure when I start pushing it, and i will, I'll burn more, so I think 8 minutes flights with the 34 oz tank will be no problem.
I added a picture showing the exhaust stacks. The back cylinder had a lot more oil burn. I was wondering if that one is running a little more rich then the others or is this normal. I'll let Tom chime it.

Hi Jon,
As for throws, I sort of just guessed a little. I started with same rates that CARF has in their manual for the P-51. I used that as the low rate. Those are: Ailerons 1/2" Up and Down; Elevator 3/4"Up 1/2"Down; Rudder 2” Right and Left Flaps 15 degrees for take off 45 degrees for landing. Seemed fine but I needed a little more elevator on landed since my field was really soft with all the rain. The 50 lbs plane's main gear wanted to stick on the landed in the soft grass. typical p-51 wanting to tip forward. I flew mostly at this rate to get the feel. I have a high rate but didn't try that. I made a small mod to the rudder to get a little more throw then standard. Needed it to try and do a slow roll when comfortable. The first take off was a little scary, make sure you don't let it get off the ground too soon. Hold in on the mains a little, letting the speed pick up. The first time it came off the ground a little quick and was a bit "squirrelly" for a few seconds. It wanted to fly quicker then it was ready.

after 3 or 4 flight check with 3 different fingers the inner side of the exhaust pipes. compare the colours - the darkest is the richest. so just lean this one a little bit. you can also take a look on the sparks. if the engine is perfect adjusted the are black-brown.
don´f forget to order spare spark plugs. you will have to change them after 30-50 flights. the coat of the head will while break in lay down on the sparks and then they are not working perfect any more. starts with sounding "rich". you can see it, the spark plug shines a bit silver when this happend.
elevator :
i think all mustangs are trimmed down (racer or not). i have the travel like it is in manual only for start (gear out). in flight i have more expo and less travel. combined it with the switch for the gear. mustang is very sensitiv on elevator.

Hi Jon,
I haven't with very unlucky weather and trying to get a few other planes ready for a warbird event in two weeks. but I'm planning to get out as much as possible prior and will report. Even today if I can "slip out" of work. For next flight I'm not making any changes except I plan to try taking off without flaps and holding it in ground effect a little longer. I'll report back. Rob

So. Just thought I'd post a few pictures from this weekend. The Ghost is flying great. I need someone that can video though. I'll try to add a very short video someone took of a flyby. the Kolm 230 running nice.

Hi there, any one used an electric landing gear on their Mustang? I would like to see how the gear door operating with the servo, and I would appreciate any help.

Sorry for being late on responding. I have a 34 oz tank. I don't usually run full throttle the whole time, but I'd assume at least 6 minutes. I do fly hard and fast for around 8-9 minutes.

I haven't touched CG and it is right for me. I believe its on the back end of the C.G. envelope.. I have to batteries for RX on a removable shelf I put about halfway from the back of canopy to tail wheel assembly, they are each 3.5 oz (7 oz total) and then I have two batteries in tail behind tail wheel. One for Fuel pump and one for ignition. They each weigh 4.9 oz ( ~10 oz total). So I added no tail weight out side that. I think I bought the balancer from Dream Works. Called the EZ Balancer II
