If so, what are your opinions on them? As good as a Moki or Saito?
I'm currently building a Hanger 9 mustang but keeping an eye out for a 1/5th 190 to go with it and eyeing the UMS engines as possible power.
The new UMS design is way better than when Horizon sold them. The build is better now and the price is very reasonable compared to Moki. My friend and I believe, having had a Moki 250 before, that the new design and build quality of the UMS engines could be better than Moki for much less money too. I guess we’ll find out soon!

That sux.
Considering this as a "next plane" after the current project. It's either this or a VQ p38 if that will fit two 15cc gas engines instead of nitro.
Always been a fan if 'stangs and fork tailed devils.

interesting. Compared to Moki and Saito, UMS does come in a lot more budget friendly. Spec-wise it's about same power/weight as the more expensive models. Post what you find out. Could be a deciding factor from my just previous post.

this is about as close as I can get to 1/5th scale in a German warbird.

Ok gents. I asked a buddy about this. I have a Moki 180 with the blue box. My buddy said his blue box on his 250 runs great. I seen vids. But I have also read more bad then good on the 180 blue box.

I have seen people run CH ignitions all over forums, seems to be the most popular, and also the cheapest, but also Chinese.

VOGELSANG has the rainbowtronics. He recommended it and it’s the most expensive and it’s German.

What’s the deal with the blue box from Moki and everyone’s issues? Who is running the rainbowtronics? What do you like about the CH?

Expensive plane to make the wrong call. I’d like to hear everyone’s thoughts on the Moki 180!! Does Moki know of all the issues and chatter on the net about the ignitions? For the price why not make a better ignition?

I just want the moki to run the most reliable. Also has electric power fuel pump.

Thanks!!

Bench run it and determine satisfactory performance.
If it meets expectations press on.

the old top hat version Moki ignition was a problem and the later rainbowtronics is the new improved ignition. Don’t worry about it, install it where it’s easy access and use it. If the engine starts easy and runs on all cylinders it’s a good ignition but, if it’s hard to start or you find a cold cylinder then replace it under warranty or buy a new one from CH-ignition. CH will be easy to work with and cheaper

Been skipping around some.

So working on the TopRC Fw190. When you drop the Sierra gear in the hole, they are to tall and hit the top of the wing. And the wheels are also at the wrong angle of the dangle. Plus just a *** bit to long.

I got the idea of what it needs to fit from Bobby Johannes who is building one also. His wood working skills are far better then mine. So I took a different route to make them work.

I moved the gear back 1/2” but cutting some of the wood back in the wing. Still plenty of wood there to be strong, plenty to go back. Instead of layering the wood and sanding down a taper to perfection, I cheated!!

I used a composite door wedge. Now cutting them down to the size of the rail, they really are strong!! To get the correct gap, I hysoled on a piece of ply on top for the gear to rest. These are way stronger then the stock rail, and the composite will by hysoled to the rails after I just adjust the back taper down.

This will put the gear at the proper angles, not hit the wing top and should handle on the ground better. Once painted they should look stock and have correct form and function. Now I have more material to bite into for the landing gear screws.

Here is a short video of Flight #2 of my Toprc FW 190. Saito FG90, Xoar 24x12 prop, Sierra Retracts, fresh weathered paint, rivets, full cockpit, servo actuated louvers, and Reverend's Fan. All up weight 40lbs.
Idle is set to 1000 rpm. Full on ground is 5800 rpm. Unload in air is 6600 rpm. Temps less than 200F at full throttle. The plane has plenty of power. Most of the flying was at 3/4 throttle. All warbird maneuvers performed easily.
Takeoff's were strait-forward. No bad habits especially on synthetic turf. Landings??? Gotta keep your speed up...this FW is heavy.

you’ll definitely want a couple of sets of ready to install axles, just in case, when you’re at a fly in and having a great time

I found the Top RC FW 190 to land very slow compared to other similar size warbirds. Go up to altitude and practice some stalls this thing will slow to a walk. Flaps allow you to carry power on the approach but easy enough. I have found mine is a bit of a challenge to keep straight on takeoff and landings. I bent one of the drag links on the sierra gear. They are L/R handed so I got a second set and straightened the one removed as a backup. I use AN shoulder bolts for my axles. I cut the heads off the bolts and threads hold a castle nut and safety wire it looks a little more scale like.

man, that first landing attempt was almost very bad. Nothing bent, cracked, or broken, I hope.

it’s a stout airplane…mine is 34lbs and I did bend one axle but the wing and gear held up well

Goid cuz that was a scary bounce. Cuz of that it just made to possible "next plane" list as a stout contender.
Thinking a UMS radial with a Ramoser 3 blade...

Yeah, it was, there are more than a few, myself included, that would have stuffed that landing.
