TopRC giant P-47 Thunderbolt ARF

Thanks. If I decide to transport it with stabs on, I will do that as well.
Got the chin scoop sanded, painted and Hysol'd it in this morning. Had to clear the top rear quite a bit for the twin exhaust, but it came out looking so much better than without it. Surprised with the detail of this arf, they don't include a scoop.

Glad you finally got to maiden it! If you have a youtube channel, you should be able to post a link from the video in your posts.
Have a quick question for anyone who has this issue. The picture below shows where my linkage is located to the oleo cover, but you'll notice I screwed up and didn't leave enough clearance for the oleo to compress on a hard landing, and the wheel cover will probably rip the linkage right off the door.. Can someone post a pic of linkage that has enough clearance and leaves room for the gear to compress? Trying to decide whether to relocate the linkage (if it will work), or leave as is and slot the wheel cover to go around the linkage.
If I relocate the horn on the door as much as 3/4" toward the wing to clear for compression, is the geometry still going to work?
Thanks,
Darrin

Darrin as I mention earlier this plane should’ve had more R&D and that’s one the issues. I could go on but back to your question, I did both cut a slot in my wheel cover and relocated the connecting position on my strut too keep the thing from looking like a bat wing when the gear is in the down position...But the plane flies great.you came in 2lb. Less Than my build.

I spent a bunch of time working out how to get my linkage so the door didn’t stick way out when open only to discover I have the same interference issue as you do - back to work! 😂
You’re so close I can almost taste it!

On my Top Flite with the Saito FG60R3 I found a 2 blade 20x12 the best prop as well. They rev higher - I think I’m going to try to use a 24x16 or 18 on the UMS….

Don’t see why you couldn’t put a dog leg kink in that linkage - maybe I’m missing something in the picture?

I wanted to run a 4 blade as well, but opted to go with the 27x10 Xoar warbird prop to start.
Just waiting on the new 1/4-32 plug adapter for the DLE and it'll be tuning and taxiing time!

Hey Darrin did you get that upper strut cover closer to the lower cover? Look Everyone went silent. When are you going to Maiden it? I got a chance to get in a few flights on my Ki 43 Oscar today with the Saito FG 90 with Ray English magic on it with a 24x12 prop thing flies like a dream.

Finally got mine finished; all that is left to do is set the CG on it and fire up the Quadra 100 and get it tuned in; been a lot of headaches along the way but I think it came out looking great.
I put a coat of clear matt over the plane, so the nomenclature stickers weren't so shiny; it seems to have done the job.

Looks great Mike. Hope to see some video soon! Love that 4 blade.
Took mine to the field today and got it tuned up. Brought it home and did a little baffling of the engine to make sure it doesn't get too hot with the cowl on. Maiden planned for next week.

the engine did seem hot after i landed, but performance did not waiver in the air. I have opened the scoop at the back of the fuz to let more air out. Hopefully ill get another chance to fly it on sunday...

Hey Mudflay
Hope I can get out on Sunday also because I Cut my cowl ring out on each side to let more air out to keep the 150 cool. So give me your opinion on the UMS150 how did it perform for you and what prop are you using?

i was recomended the biela 23x14x4 blade which i tried but was getting 5400 on the ground. Not wanting to exceed 6000 rpm in the air i changed to 25x14x4. This gives me 4300 on the ground, i flew it with this prop.
take off was swift, it had good speed in the air (not reno style though), upline was pretty good but i can tell the engine is loaded. Landing was a breeze with half flap she floated in
Cg as per book is spot on neutral, it flys very nicely.

Curious if the 25x14x4 is also Biela?
The reason I ask is I've tried the Biela and the SEP 4-blades on other radial engines. I've found that the SEP more efficient design and lower mass generally fly better.
Hoping to get 25x14x4 SEP or 24x16x4 SEP flight report or telemetry feedback on P-47 fitted with UMS-150. Perhaps 26x14x4 SEP might be suited for this engine/model combo?
I have both SEP & Biela for my UMS-250, Moki S250 & S215 and in all cases, the SEP fly better while the Biela look more “scale”.

Slightly off topic - Perhaps respond on the UMS thread?

Agree, have found the SEP better/best performance on my Turboprops as well. Not sure how Biela got such a following….
Cheers,
Paul
