Which Spitfire
I am looking to build or (God forbid an ARF) buy a Spitfire. Any suggestions as to the best kit for the money? The Battle of Britain MK1 or II is my ultimate goal, but anything with the bubble canopy will work. Please advise. I would rather build for the accuracy.

RE: Which Spitfire
Brian Taylor has plans for a 69" MkIa. Bob Holman sells the plans and laser cur parts ([link=http://www.bhplans.com/index.htm]Bob Holman Plans[/link]). I bought the plans (but haven't started building yet). They have a lot of scale detials in them.

RE: Which Spitfire
Depends on what your budget is. If money is no object go with Brian Taylor, from what I have read and heard, the most accurate Spit around. If you have a restricted budget or a first warbird build, I would go with the Top Flite Spit (as I have done). There are a lot of builds online with a wealth of information and it doesn't cost the earth to buy or build.
Also remember the BT Spit is a Mk IA, the TF Spit is a Mk IX.
Good luck

RE: Which Spitfire
By far the Brian Taylor plans and parts from Bob Holman are the best. He has plans for a MkI, MkIX and a MkXIV.
The TF kit is a nice Sport Scale model, and is a good first build. But keep the tail light or you will end up with a heavy model that won't be enjoyable to fly.
I you want something bigger look at Yellow Aircraft, Century Jet and maybe Clark Aviation out of Canada. Clark's is a 1/4 scale model.

I am a big fan of the 1/5th scale Yellow Aircraft Spitfire. The plane is just awesome. Good kit construction. Flies like a dream. Scale outline and detail are very respectable. You just can't go wrong with the YAC Spit. As for you desire on the bubble canopy, you can do it to the YAC kit. Check out the conversion kits offered at: spychallaaircraft.com

RE: Which Spitfire
I have the 65" Pica Spit. This is the orginal one that was designed by Dave Platt many years ago. While it flies very nice it is not quite scale in areas such as the cowl and the undecarriage placement nor does it have flaps but you can add them easily.
TF one also is not that scale around the canopy and the U/C. Plus the tail feathers are enlarged.
Not sure on what others are out there. As for ARF yuk spew vomit gross!! get the idea?
cheers

Curt,
If you want to build for the accuracy go with Brian Taylor.

RE: Which Spitfire
No doubt, the Brian Taylor spits are the best looking spits to my eyes. Yellow, Pica, Top Flite are good also. Depends on who you are as to which you select. I am holding out for the BT, but am not a builder, So I am waiting til the wing comes available in glass so that I can minimize my actual building. Glass fuse is already available. Already have a Brison 2.4 waiting to go in it. Wondering if it will be enough. I figure its gotta be comparable to Jose's Moki 1.80.
If you haven't seen JGrc's BT Spitfire you are really missing out. Check it out before you decide on any spitfire! My personal favorite. Very well-done.

Hi haywood,
Indeed the Spitfire from Jose is a very nice one.
As soon as the glass wings are available I will let you know.
Cheers

My vote too would be for the Brian Taylor 83" version. There are quite a few folks on here who have built them, here's a picture of mine...also I posted some pics on my website as I built it. I have a second waiting in the wings and will follow similar steps with some changes that I learnt from the first one....which is still flying by the way. [8D]

In the ARF bracket, here's another manufacturer that many don't know about.

RE: Which Spitfire
RC Scaler! I am currently work in progress with a Mick Reeves 1/6 Spitfire.
Had some fun with it so far ( my first scale!). I have to say on reflection the Bryan Taylor kit is King. Generally parts are better made. in particular the glass parts. I have been greatly impressed and inspired by Sean’s web site, very helpful, interesting and informative. I have even modified some of my construction to match that of the Taylor build (tail surfaces).
If you want to see what I have been up to so far, please follow the link below for all the information you could ever need on building the Mick Reeves Spitfire, including a closer look at the parts supplied in the kit. I have not done much for the past 6 weeks waiting for some replacement parts to arrive.
