Hello Craig,
I am building my 3rd and this time I attached wings/stab first to fuse. Ihave attached all control surfaces servos etc. to wings/stab. Thishelpsas the fuse is light and easy to invertto align flaps etc. Didn't build other two this way and made it more difficult.

RE: FiberClassics P-51 now Comp-ARF P-51
Hi All ..
This P51 isn't what I'd term ARF!! Been at it for nearly 6 months and still a way to go. Reading the forum has helped immensely! I have installed the 3W - 110 inline twin ... and ducted the air from the rear scoop. Has anyone else done this ... and flown the bird? A friend was considering the ZDZ 100 until he cooked the rear cylinder on the test bench. I'm starting to worry!

A friend of mine has the ZDZ100 in a 1/4 scale Spitfire and has good luck with it. Only trouble he has had is stripping the threads for the sparkplug. Witch was his fault. I have a ZDZ100 in my P51 and I will be setting up a 2" dia electric EDF to add in cooling the rear cyclinder. Witch will be ducted from the rear scoop. I hope to have it flying this summer.

Peter,
go to bottom of page 40 of this thread. I flew a 80 inline 3w twin, and on page 46 is flight pics. Had no issues with the rear cylinder (single carb, by the way) couldn't rich the rear cylinder.
Working on my 3rd, and was considering the 110 3w engine, but was not sure if the spark plugs would extend below cowl chin. Let me know if your engine will fit inside the cowl.

Thanks Charlie
I thought I had the engine in perfectly at about 15deg inclination, until I aligned the spinner on the thrust line, and the front spark plug popped through the side vent holes. I've decided to leave the plug cap protruding about 3 mm and made the vents on both sides removable, in order to access the spark plugs on the right, and the carbs on the left. (viewed from the pilots seat.) I think I will be able to disguise this well in the paint work. I'll post photos if you need.
Cheers
Peter

The ducted fan from the rear scoop sounds like a good idea ... I'm just worried about weight already, and the EDF will obviously require it's own powersupply. I'm also considering the eagletree telemetry ... monitor the rear cylinder head and EGT ... more weight!!

RE: FiberClassics P-51 now Comp-ARF P-51
Ok guys, I am trying to get some information regarding a paint colour for a P-51.
I have attached a picture of what I am looking at. The finish looks like a silverish grey for the fuselage, just not to sure what FS# it may be.
Any help would be appreciated. This is what I am leaning towards for my Comp P-51.

Craig,
Your photo shows P-51D serial # 44-63476 which is registered as N63476 to Claire Aviation Inc. of Wilmington, Deleware. If your intention is to replicate this restored Mustang then you would probably need to speak to the owner and/or paint shop in order to find out exactly what color silver was used as it may or may not be the same as that used on the actual service examples. I'm not sure how you would go about finding out what colors would have been used on the original Canadian military examples. Do they even use the same FS number designations?

Thanks Chad
My thoughts were to do the one in the picture that I posted. I appreciate your response. As for the FS#..........no clue to your question.
At this point I am trying to do my homework, even before I start the construction.
Cheers

yes - the engine will be available after this season. First I have to test it in action.
Sunday i have done some full throttle and idling tests in the fuselage to have temperatures and so on...

Here is a link to an article that may be of some use to you:
http://www.courtesyaircraft.com/Arti..._OCanada_6.pdf
The article relates that Tri-State Aviation in North Dakota did most of the restoration work and, more importantly, the paint job. Maybe they could be of some assistance in regards to the colors used.

Fantastic color scheme by the way, best of luck with your 'stang!

Thanks for those links. I emailed tri-state aviation, email was answered, and forwarded to another email address. Just waiting for a response.

Craig; you may already have these links but just in case you don't. The first link below has some really good photos of the City of Winnipeg Mustang. The other two links are of other RCAF colour scheme Mustangs. I picked the same colour scheme as youfor my TF giant P-51, although I am using TF Monokote covering. The silver is not a match but the blue, yellow and back are as close as I can get with Monokote.. I just have the fuselage left to cover and It will be completed.

You can go to your local automotive paint store and get the colors on the list. You may want to pucker up before you go because it will cost a arm and leg to buy all the colors on the list. It mite include your first born to get out the door. Good luck. I would look at Klass Coat for a match. They will be cheeper.

Unfortunately a member of our Brazilian airforce demonstration team crashed yesterday on a training/show.
He was flying our EMB-Tucano like the one made by Comp-Arf.
