Tail wheel steering using pull-pull?
I am building the Ziroli Stuka and would like to use pull-pull on the Robart tail wheel landing gear. Is there any thing about this that is different then a stright run back to the servo?
I have always used a rudder spring attachement for my aerobatic airplanes so a pull-pull directly to a tail wheel is a new one for me.

RE: Tail wheel steering using pull-pull?
There's nothing tricky about setting up the pull-pull connection to the Robart tailwheel. When it retracts, the wires will go limp and the tailwheel can flop back and forth in the fuse unless you use rubber bands or some other method of applying some tension to the wires when retracted to keep the wheel staight. A limp tailwheel can flop to one side and then hang up when extending which is not a good thing! I always use rubber bands that hold the wires taught when retracted and then just stretch as the tailwheel extends. There's no easy way that I've found to connect a pushrod or other means of steering to the Robart wheel, so the pull-pull connection is the way to go. You will set it up just like you do with a rudder pull-pull connection, just make sure the retract is extended when you do the setup!

Thanks for the reply. The Stuka tail wheel does not retract. Its a Robart gear that has some spring action to allow it to move a little with the bumps.
I was thinking in terms of the servo and the effect of bumps on the servo gears. I didn't know if any of the war bird experts used a sliding spring action connector for the servo arm connection.

RE: Tail wheel steering using pull-pull?
I have a pull - pull setup on my Spitfire tailwheel. It also has some shock absorbing motion.
I just ran the cables up to the rudder servo in the fuse and connected them via standard tailwheel springs hooked into the servo arm.
. I did this to get some minor steering on center, but it still lets the tailwheel "free castor" when it's off center.
