You are right. The Wheels are Sierra, the retracts are Robart with Sierra aluminum cam blocks.

The one comment I would add is now that I have some flights on the retracts I will pull them this winter and pin them in the clamp.

Tom oh ya the pin well if the clamp stays tight then there is no load so I will be using a 3/32 roll pin in one side only of the clamp, will also leave just enough stickking out so it can be pulled for repair, I would reather have a welded cap on tke clamp on the dtrap, but no one hear seeen to want to do these little jobe
Well for me it it wat bast my punnnnnkin t imee

RE: TF GS P47 Build - yeah another bloody one!!
Got some good news.
I finally got some time to tear into my muffler that came loose again. The design of the bolts to hold the muffler on was good. I ground off to much of the weld and that was where the bolt failed.
I redesigned it again and this time I redid the Square nut that the bolt goes into. I have always felt that there wasn't enough thread in the square nut to hold the bolt. I modified a 10-24 blind nut to fit in the place of the regular square nut.Now I have twice as much thread in there to thread into. I also mounted the stock exhaust back on the Engine I'll mess around with the Pitts Muffler next spring.
I run out of gas today so I didn't take any pictures. I'll take some tomorrow and post them.
I'm also ketching up with my other projects once again. That means I'm thinking about the 47 again. I'll probably start on the cowl next week.

Old Tom
If your 62's are like mine reverse the bolts grind the heads so they will slide in then you can use any good qual stop nut on the out side. I had the same problem till I switched. Just what I did.
Well we are off on the yellow brick road in about 2 hrs so will see ya end of the month

RE: TF GS P47 Build - yeah another bloody one!!
Here it is.
The first two pictures are of the stud setup on the Pitts muffler. That will work when I make a some larger 10-24 studs and I pay attention to the weld penetration.
The new square nut setup I think will work with anything. Because we are running out of flying weather where I live. I decided to mount the stock muffler that came with the engine. Breaking the engine in is my first priority. I eliminated the stock gasket. That has been reported by many to be the cause of the mufflers coming loose and replaced it with high temp copper silicone gasket material. Also used a lock washer and red loctite. I replaced the metric screws cause I couldn't buy any metric square nuts locally. I lost it the first time the muffler came loose.
Hope it works this time.

I could be all wet, but in the last picture it appears the nut is on backwards.

Hi Mack. No it's on there right. If you turn it around the small part of the nut would be to long and you wouldn't be able to tighten it. The diameter of the small end is to large to turn around also and it won't fit in the slot. I didn't want to enlarge the slot.
I understand why you taught that. The soldered on square nut is only reinforcing for the flange on the blind nut and to fill up the slot that it slides into.. I tried it out today and it worked for 15 minutes. Couldn't get it started the second time cause the spark plug came loose and burned up the electrode on the plug. Of course I didn't have another one with me. Will give it another shot tomorrow.
