Oh no you don't ! I'm not getting into that Lee Mallory arguement thing, Keith Park is my hero ! At Dux in 2000, they recreated the big wing thing with 21 Spits and 3 hurris. Breathtaking is all I can say, it also took a long time to get them together.

My former Boss was a kid in Wales (10 group) during the battle and remembers the bombers coming over hitting Bristol.

Dear S1/Moggy

I'm glad to see you boys have seen the Battle of Britain Film.
Nice to read quote's from it.

We had a chap come and give a talk on the Battle of Britain at one of our club meetings.
I can't remember what his views were on the big wing, but he did not have to many good things
to say about Douglas Bader. It was like waving a red flag to a bull, It is a good job I am British
and the stiff upper lip prevailed. For somebody to lose their legs in a flying accident, and then
still want to climb back in an aeroplane and fight for his Country. That is courage of the highest order. DB was based at RAF Coltishall (our flying field) during the early part of the BOb.
As you drive on to the base now, a Hurricane depicting the one he flew while at Colt is mounted
on a plinth.

The 2000 Bob display at Duxford was amazing, they don't normally allow the aircraft to fly over the crowd, they had to get a special dispensation for that. When they perform their mass fly pasts, they normally come in from the motorway end in elements of three and four aircraft. So everybody was surprised when they came in from over the hangers, wing tip to wing tip in the so called big wing formation. It made the hair on the back of my neck stand up.

I take it Moggy(Catamole) that you have taken your call sign from the Piece of Cake series, which is also your signature. (how do you get that part to work by the way).
That series was not very well received in this Country, I quite liked it my self.
The scene where the Spitfire flew under the bridge, which was real by the way.
The pilot who flew the Spit was Ray Hanna, the owner of the Old Flying Machine Company.
YOu might have seen the video where he nearly takes that commentators head off at Duxford.
Ray is judged by many as the master of the Spitfire display.

In the late sixties he led the Red Arrows in their Gnat aircraft, he is the only person to have
led the Red Arrows twice. He started flying the Spitfire in the early seventies, for the then owner, Adrian Swires the Chairman of Cathay Pacific.

He formed the Old Flying Machine Company in the early eighties with his son Mark.
Tragically Mark was killed in a flying accident in Spain in 1999 whilest coming into land in a Buchon (109 airframe with a Merlin engine, like the ones in the Bob film).

Ray led a four ship warbird aerobatic formation display team consisting of a P40, Spitfire, P51D Mustang and a Corsair. This ended at the end of the 2003 season when the sponsorship deal ended with Breitling, they were known as the Breitling Fighters. It used to be a fantastic display.

For this season they are hoping to put together a two ship team consisting of a Spitfire (the one that flew under the bridge) and a P51D Mustang.

Ray Hanna, is in his mid seventies.

Regards Phil G.

Dear Serpente
Congratulations on your successful maiden flight. It makes you feel good when you get the
aeroplane up and down in one piece. Always a nerve racking time the first flight.

I love the sharks teeth on the P40, the only warbird in my opinion that they look correct on.
You can just imagine a flying Tiger's P40 coming up behind a Jap Zero and chewing the tailplane
off with those teeth.

Congratulations once again on a fine looking model.

Those 'D' model 190's are like pattern planes, especially for a warbird......

Dear S1
Enjoy your beer and don,t worry about a hang over.
When you climb in to your Spit tomorrow, a few deep breaths on the oxygen mask
will help clear your hang over.

Dear tozdezignz
What a cracking line up of warbirds, looks nice and warm where you are.
It has been snowing here in England for the last week.

Could you let us know where they are from ie plan/kit and what size wing span engine size etc.

G'day Guys
I am an Aussie currently working in Seattle. My FW190D-9 is a modified Topflite kit. It has a Skyshark cowl, Pica gun hood and intake. Robart air retracts and oleo struts and is now powered by a Saito 100 with 14X8 prop. The BF110 is owned by another Aussie I work with. It is a discontinued Czech Kit originally designed for twin electrics. The owner had the urge to put twin OS25 FX's in it. The sound alone if worth the effort. Electrics just don't cut the cake when it comes to the noise of a twin. The Zero I believe is a Kyosho ARF and the P51 is a Hanger9 ARF which was completely stripped and glassed. Repainted by airbrush, its an awesome job.
The weather here all winter was dry and clear. Great flying weather. Yesterday was like spring. You could have got a suntan.

Dear Moggy
Look what you have done now, I have a bid on ebay for this.
Which at the moment I am winning
Hurrah!

Regards Phil G.
This is the series where Ray Hanna flies under the bridge in his Spitfire.

Piece of Cake follows the adventures, heartaches and rites of passage of the fighter pilots of RAF Hornet Squadron during World War II.

It is 1939 and Rex, the arrogant, overly confident and aristocratic new commanding officer, arrives to transfer the squadron to France.

As the story unfolds, the class consciousness of the British officers takes second place to the War, while the lives and loves of the squadron undergo continuous change.

It looks like the pictures were taken at marymoor, were they? Now haven't we just had the perfect weather here??? People always say were wet here all the time but all ready they are ready to call a drought for the state, weird. I fly at a new club in Arlington and it's so nice and quiet and no problems like one would have at Marymoor. You get a chance give me a shout as it looks like were pretty close to each other.

It was on TV in sweden too. I remember some parts.
One where this guy is singing a rather tragic song and the castle they are in is bounced by 109s, they other sequence is when one of the guys has been shot in his hand, hardly makes the landing and moggy tells a bad masturbation joke to him.. That was fun..

And the spitfire under the bridge, that was cool.

Gotta see that one again, must by 12 year old now...

Sorry I have not posted the 315 stuff yet, I've been busy getting stuff ready for a meeting.

Dear All
It has been a sad day at RAf Coltishall, as two of the four Jaguar sqn's were officially disbanded.
The sqn's that were disbanded are 16(R) and 54(F) they can both trace their root's back to 1916.
That's two years before the RAF was formed. The Station is due to close December 2006.

Will they never learn the lessons of history.
Here is what they had to say on the station website, they called it a celebration.
I wouldn't quite call it that.

They did put on a very nice flying display, which included.
Jaguar airfield attack, Jet provost, Hawker Hunter, Berkut, P51D Mustang, Jaguar solo display.
Jaguar diamond nine, Spitfire and two Jaguar's in formation and Spitfire solo display.Below are some pics that I took.

No. 16(Reserve) & 54(Fighter) Squadron's Disbandment Celebrations, 11 - 13 March 2005.

No. 16(R) & No. 54(F) Squadrons will disband at RAF Coltishall on 11 March 2005.

There will be a Station Families Day for RAF Coltishall personnel & their families on 12 March as well as past & present members of both disbanding squadrons. Regretfully this event will not be open to the general public.

On Sunday 13 March , No. 54(F) Squadron will lay-up their Squadron Standard in Norwich Cathedral.

Regards Phil G.

The field is just off 530 on the way to Darrington about a 30 mile drive for you if coming from Mukilteo. We'll set up a day in the near future and make a day of flying, you'll love the field for sure. Now I'll bring the can of beer but you can't drink it at the field as it's on school property and not allowed. even if it were we would probably have made it a no no as we have seen some bad mishaps here when one is tossing them down on a hot day. PM me a phone number and we can talk, later.

Dear All
A little more progress on ths Spitfire. On the flaps, since these pics have been taken I
have added a strip of litho on the T/E so that I can try and get them to conform to the
upper surface of the wing.
