A Hayes 16 oz tank is strapped in place right over the CG. This way, the CG stays at the same location whether the tank is empty or full.
Specific gravity of methanol: 0.792
Specific gravity of nitro: 1.136
16 oz of YS 20/20 fuel: 16*(0.8*0.792 + 0.2*1.136) = 13.77 oz
So, 16 oz of fuel weighs close to 14 oz. As a result, the plane will be very nose heavy on take off if the tank is placed right behind the firewall.

I am build a top flight 1/7 p-51 and I was going to use the Tuskegee Airmen "Bunnie" color scheme. I have the same pilot and your almost looks identical to mine. My plane is all framed up and the wing is glassed and ready for paint. Hopefully it will be ready for her maiden flight in two weeks or so. Keep up the good work.

It's almost decal time. I used a flatbed scanner to scan in a 1/24th scale decal sheet by AMtech, Part #TGR-24101. I then used Adobe Illustrator to replicate the decals in vector format and enlarged them to 1/7th scale. The Illustrator files were sent over to Denny at Cajun RC to have a complete set of high quality decals made. You won't see me butchering up an authentic color scheme on any of my warbirds.

Richard, how hard was it to strip the covering? I've been considering doing something similar to an entire H9 P-51. I've always liked the lines on the P-51D, but I don't want the typical American paint scheme. I'd love to redo one in a Canadian Scheme. 404 Sqn had them painted in the typical British format, green and grey camo, with a yellow stripe on the nose. Would be pretty cool and different looking.
But I'm worried that it's a bit too much work to strip the WHOLE thing. I'd probably have to cover it all in light grey, and then spray paint the dark grey and green on top.

My Modeltech SE5a is covered in glossy cream and olive drab Monokote... Monokote DOES make flat, I don't know why they didn't use that.[&:]

I'm doing the same with a Kyosho P-40.
I already knew the horizontal tail was weak so I removed the covering to fix it (will end up building a whole new one most likely). After looking at that crappy stick-on covering I couldn't stand it and ripped it all off. Its was adhesive backed so it was kind of a pain. I've got a couple rolls of pre-primed Micafilm squirreled away that I'm gonna recover it with. Still deciding on a color sceme.

The rear stab of two different Kyosho P-40's blew up in mid flight at my field, so you are doing the right thing. There are plenty of cool color schemes to choose from for the P-40E. I bet you will be able to find lots of pictures on the net via Google search.

By the way, the plane balanced perfectly with the rx battery pack laying in the cavity behind the firewall and no additional lead added.
I wish I could use gear doors but my struts and wheels are not sunken deep enough into the wing.
