live&learn

i knew the giant ones around the engine compart. would be some kind of removable fastner (maintenance) but i had NO idea about the medium sized ones all around the front of the plane [X(]

anyways i do know now thanks to you people

cheers,
V.

PS since there's so much brain power here, is there a 1/6 scale cockpit on the market? THX

Lots of Guys use the Fuel fill area, in front of cockpit, top of fuse..

Cockpits The ones I know of are Both from Top-Flite 1/8 th scale Not correct to any real Corsair ,it`s a Mix up of all the Variants, and the Other is for their Giant @ 1 / 5.75 . I can`t tell you much about it ,as far as correctness but it has a dash, side panels and seat. That one you could most likely trim to fit ..RT3232 or one of the other guys will be able to tell you more.. Check tower hobbies you`ll find pics there

i was also watching my baa baa black sheep dvd and getting ideas. i talked to a top gun pilot who tok a tf corsair moded the tips and rudder and came in 2nd. He said they can fly well in the high 20"s and low 30 lbs range. Just keep the speed up. i talked to wingspan models last night they said you can wire the light modules to a std pack without going thru a rx and use switches to turn them on. my switchs will be in the cockpit. noe if I could find working miniture switches all the better

.Warks, I`ve been Looking for your Plane ,and I have not found much except for what you alreay know about that Plane..I`ve Been Thinking about what you were asking about,Who was the Pilot..It could be Very possible ,that the Plane Flew ,right Around the Clock..And Had several Drivers Keeping it in the Air..If you look at the wings ,you can see that 2 of the inspection covers are switched, and are on the Wrong Wings ,by the Graphics not matching up ..Keep the Faith.. I still have places to look ,that I haven`t had a chance to take a peek yet..Maybe you`ll still be Blessed By "God" yet !! Right Tim ?? LOL HAHAHAaaaa

..Tim I really don`t like the idea ,of Stealing power from your Flight pack...You get a short in the wires or Whatever, and run out of electricity, and Bye Bye Baby.[X(] Use a 9 volt Transistor Radio Battery and Step the voltage down..Much better if your light do go out,at least you can still control the plane..But it`s your model ,so it`s your choice..

Look here for Switches; Digi-Key they have an online catalogue and a big Honking Free one, that will come in the Mail ,if you fill out the form on the website It`s about the size of a phone book...It`s FREE !!!

D Bronk thanks for looking if you or anybody can give me more info that would be great. I am doing a TF giant Corsair that is now painted in this scheme has not been cleared coated yet so was looking for should we say "The Rest Of The Story" Was just trying to document it best as possible. I picked this scheme because I was trying to have something different. I like the three color one but have a Hellcat in that already. Thanks again!

Tim, like D Bronk said you can use a 9 volt transister battery which is light and small. 9 volt batt, 1/4 watt 250 ohm resister, batt lead to plug on to the batt. You can get these from Radio Shack or an electronics srore. This is a very cheap way to go but on the other hand if you have a pack laying around not doing anything then you can't get any cheaper than that.

Randy

here a link to the trailer:
http://www.leschevaliers-lefilm.com/site/intro.html

however it doesn't show the "strip" scene with the Corsair no 22 [>:] it's the all blue one color scheme> gorgeous plane, you can see the wings unfolding.... it has the no 22 on the fuse > i've tried to "capture" a screenshot from my CD but without success

I am in the process of getting the docs and parts to build a 82"Corsair from Brian Taylor plans. I plan to build the retracts myself. Does anyone have a good picture or diagram for the full size retract mechanism? How did the main gear leg mount/pivot? I know the P40 used two gears to rotate the landing gear but I have not found any pictures of the mechanism used on the Corsair. I figure as long as I am building the gear, I might as well make it as scale as possible.

thanks,
David

Here's what I have. I rotated and replaced the 3rd photo and it's not compressing to thumbnail size for some reason. I'll try reposting below.

Tom,

Thanks for the pics. The third one is a good closeup and angle that I have not seen before.

I would still like to see a pic of how the gear leg mounts/pivots to the wing. I am hoping someone has a picture of the gear outside of the plane or one with the wing unskinned. Better yet would be a factory diagram or blueprint.

From what I can tell so far, I should be able to make a very workable retract for the model using similar geometry and design as the full scale.

thanks again,
David

hi guys, i am trying to find info on the Corsair 22 used as a prop in the movie SKY FIGHTERS
Was this movie, or parts of it, shot in France? Jean Salis has an F4U-5 in France with a 22 on the cowl.

The Flying Heritage Collection has an FG-1D with 22 on the fuse as well. I doubt this airplane was the one in the movie but you never know. Also, this one has white on the bottom as you can see.

PS - Ok, after watching the trailer I have answered my first question! Based on that I would bet the Corsair you saw in the movie is the Jean Salis machine.

Here are some links to more pics Vasek.

http://www.airliners.net/open.file/0263071/L/

Bunch of photos here as well.
http://www.luftfahrtmuseum.com/htmi/ite/f4u.htm

The airplane is an F4U-5, #124724, and is registered F-AZEG to Jean Baptiste Salis and is based at La Fert'e-Alais in France. Using that information you should be able to Google up more pics and information. Good luck!
