Default VAT and other Woes for Overseas Customers

Hi,

I've had a few inquiries lately about this question. The answer is YES, I am always willing to 'help out' on import duties/Value Added Taxes and other such governmental horse****e for my overseas customers. If you have questions about this, call or email me DIRECTLY.

Value Added Tax is the biggest scam a government has introduced I feel sorry for my fellow Brits having to pay 17.5% VAT, atleast i do not have to pay that anymore, just one of the things i love about living in The U.S I would never move back to britain

Don't get too excited yet, they are trying to institute it here also.

And our 4.5 % sales tax is not like the VAT? Plus we get taxed for everything but air. I just want to get some thing for my money and I understand services cost[8D]

Born free taxed to death.

Hi,

I live in Denmark and a few times I have ordered items from US.
If I make an order at let's say 100 $ at in example Tower Hobbies, then
I will be charged about 30 $ in p&p by Tower . The price is now 130 $.
When I recieve my package in Denmark from US, then I have to pay 25 % in VAT
and 12,5 % in import tax of the total price in US (order price an p&p). This ads
48 $ to the price, so total price for me is then 178 $. Thats a scam !!!

Hi Troels,
Jeez, and I thought we had it bad here in the U.K... 4% Duty on the goods then 17.5% VAT on top of everything (goods + P&P) and then usually another £10 (~$20) 'Clearance Fee'. If I think of buying anything from the States then I multiply the goods + shipping by 1.3 to get a 'worst case scenario' price. Sometimes smaller packages get through untaxed though

In the good old days, I used to get DHL to pick up my RC goodies from around the world and deliver it directly to my desk at the office... the next day!
No Taxes, Customs, waiting or BS! Unfortunately, the days of 24 hour delivery are sadly gone. Now you're looking a 3 day express plan, a pile of paper work, fees, charges, declarations and a wooping big invoice from the customs office for their dedicated service to the state.
The only way to deal with the problem is to find a proffessional, international dealer and get the invoice made out for a great deal less... which brings us back to the original post!

while we are on the subject--how much for a wing set for the 88"spit, and a front undercowl ?? shipped to the UK---its a shame to have the remnants of the crash sitting doing nothing, for the want of a wing
thanks, ALAN

Troels,
Was just curious, how are the taxes handled if you pickup stuff on vacation or business in the US. Do you still have to pay all those taxes when you get home?

Scam? A better word is protectionism or tarrif.

A good definition of SCAM is trying to get your VAT back, for those of us who are not from those countries!

Alanc

The wing kit is $305, the chin cowl is $30, and shipping to the UK is probably around $100 (ouch) because it's too big to go postal. Hope this helps.....

Hi Edwin.
The rules are the same if I'm coming home to Denmark from a non-EU country.
Then I have to decide if I'm willing to take the risk and not declare what I have
brought home. If I'm lucky I'll get through, but if I'm not, then I'll be charged for
VAT, import tax plus quite a large fee. I don't know how much, I haven't tried it.

Look on the bright side Peter. A recent amendment to Australia's Customs law has raised the duty free limit to $1000 AU. This would make most imported RC items effectivly duty and GST free.

Now for the bad news. According to Tower Hobbies, any kit on their list of oversize items (and it's a big one!) that can not be shipped by parcel post must be sent by UPS at a cost of $100US - $250US.

It folows that a $100US kit could cost you $350US ($470 AU). This is about the same as the current mark up imposed by most Oz hobby suppliers. BAH!

yeah Merlin it sucks alright, though you obviously have not brought anything in of late. Last time from Tower about a $350 USD order cost me $97AUD in import duties, GST etc etc as they add it up, add on fees, then apply GST to this, add it up and apply GST again!! Work that bloody well out!!

As Billy Connolly said in a skit: " Gessus H Creeest - uts a murucle !! " Said in a very Southern accent to rival the good Col of 11 herbs and spices fame.

Grumble grumble grumble [:@][:@][:@][:@][:@][:@][:@][:@][:@][:@][:@][:@][:@][:@][:@][:@][:@]

he also said don't vote for the F#$$% ers as it only encourages them!! Trouble is voting is compulsory here!

I moved to the US eight years ago. I lived in London most of my life, moved to Portsmouth (U.K.) and flew a lot in both places. In the last eight years everything has skyrocketed here, despite nowhere else comparesl since everything is more expensive everywhere else.

I once stood in the Toll office, surrounded by official, uniformed victims of the State organized beaurocratic nonsense, waiting a very small package.
On delivery I was asked to open the said parcel so the contents could be checked by these total morons, at the Tax payer expense.
Inside was a 6 inch x 1/2 inch teflon pipe posted to me from a buddy in England. "What is it" one inquired. It's a small plastic pipe I replied. As the conversation was taking place another official tapped furiously in a key board to try and locate the required forms and declaration for importing such atrocities. "Where's the invoice" inquired another tearing the the envelope and tissue paper. Evidently there isn't one... it's from a friend I replied. Still the man tapped the keyboard, an official was called... and another. After much back ground mumblings from the frustrated tossers they asked me what it was for. A model airplane said me! Many happy official faces, the key board man now typing with the added vigor that only true confidence can inspire. "Hobby import" he proclaimed! That's 285 kroners! (about $45) But surely there isn't any Taxes on this... it's a gift from a friend I asked. "No, it's tax free... the 285 kroners is a customs fee for searching the package!" Thank you. next!

Total and utter wanker.

There's a famous saying among us ExPats here. On entering the country for the very first time, your presented with a jar of Vaseline. "What's the Vaseline for?" You'll find out... welcome to Norway!

Are these VATs charged on all items, or just those that are imported?

VAT ("value added tax" ) is charged on all goods an services. Imported items get whacked with the additional import fees and duties they are referencing.
