Twist my arm, Prop Nut!
I tried to get my son to hold the plane, but the camera battery needed to be recharged and he had a birthday party to go to. So here it is, from the backyard. The semi-tri color scheme is in Monocote, Saito .80 for power. The lettering is from BIll Fulmer at custom cut graphics(pilot name graphics are by aero3dgfx.com. It has two flights on it, with an APC prop. The plane is much faster than my old one, so we're putting on a three blade.

RE: GUYS, your models are great but get HIM right!!!
Hi Brad,
sorry for delay in coming back to you about our pilots. Eventually that's the plan, but what people do at the moment is email me for data sheets of the pilots listed on the site. We can do busts or adjust leg length, and still have the R/C option installed, as the servo(s) live in the chest cavity. Weight starts at 3 ozs for the none R/C versions.
I will have an Mpeg up there soon, so you can see the things moving, what I need though are some good merlin sounds as a backing track[>:]..any ideas folks?
Is there a CD version of 'The Battle of Britain' out there?
cheers
Mark

I found these guys at Toy's R Us,.. they are the BBI (Blue Box Toys) Elite Force Action Figures from the WWII series. pretty close for my Top Flite Corsair project once I took the legs off. The width of the shoulders are a little wide, but I think it looks great!
Here he is inspecting the radial, and then tapping the guage in the cockpit. [8D]

They are all welcome, just lets try make them look like they belong in the aircraft.
By the way what is a wasp? Is it short for some thing?

He's 1/6 scale, the GP Stearman is 1/5.6, the cockpit is scratch built so I got to position the seat just right. He looks awsome in flight too!

Some great shots of pilots in the cockpits. I agree that the pilot makes a big difference in the all around look of the plane.
I'll post some BB toy figures I have used, with some modifications. One was taking a drill press to them and reducing their weight by almost 1/2. This preserves the precise realistic pose you want to give him, even under the vibration and "g" of flight.
Cheers,
DaveGee

Guys,
I totally agree. That is why Michael Johnson of Aces of Iron, produces the finest Pilot bust available. We at PerfectPilots.com, are the exclusive distributor for his pilots and make this topic our personal commitment to the scale guys (and Gals) that you should have a "perfect" pilot for your scale project.
On a side note, any readers of Model Airplane News, they have in thier lastest issue, a collection of pilot reviews. In the article they have "Zombie" Pilots as a manufacturer. They are not. They simply buy pilots from us and paint them and resell them. They are Aces of Iron pilots!
Please don't be confused. IF you have questions please feel free to PM me.
Chuck

Totally agree with the early comments in this thread... very disheartening to see incredibly detailed scale planes take off and fly pilotless.
In the same vain, I am finding it almost impossible to find a 1/5th scale, full body WWII US pilot for my Mustangs... anyone help with that?
heres a pic to make my point Gorgeous turbine powered Snow Bird...
Cheers

Who of the manifacturers is going to step up and start making what a lot of us want/need.
At least 1/5th scale Allied and Axis WWII pilots to start off with. Kitted out with all the gear like their little 1/6th brothers.
Davegee your guys look spot on.

Thanks, Brad. I have used the BBI figures, and some Dragon figures, but unfortunately there is a dearth of these available today. For instance, the Dragon MA-2 flight jacket that used to be plentiful is as rare as hen's teeth, even on Ebay. I hope that someone like will release a USAAF fighter pilot with all the trimmings someday.
I'm going to be working on a 1/4 scale PCM Me-109, and if anyone has any ideas on excellent quality full body German pilots in that scale, I'd love to know where to get them.
Thanks,
DaveGee

Anyone check out the Aces of Iron web site lately? Lots of new stuff coming! Mostly WWI but hopefully more WWII isn't far behind. Here's the link: http://www.acesofiron.com/products.htm
Isn't Dave Platt still selling pilots? http://www.daveplattmodels.com/ He has 1/5 full body US and Japanese. Heavy and a lot of work to clean up but make impressive pilots once you're done.
